Hello! Wonderful video as usual. I really enjoy your content. Very informative very inspirational. Just a side note on the Magic Eraser, artists beware of buying Magic Eraser with either detergent or fragrance added. These can potentially alter the composition of your surface sizing and mix with your paints. The original fragrance/detergent-free Magic Eraser can be a painting saver and add some amazing highlights and texture!!! Happy texturizing!!!! And thanks again, Oto, for such amazing videos!!!!🎨🖌️💕💕😄
Wow I had no idea you can get scented and detergent included magic erasers! Mind. Blown. Thanks for the heads up Pam, I'm going to pin your comment so everyone can see it.
Magic Erasers are abrasive, so avoid using them on delicate countertops such as marble and granite. Not only can you damage the sealant but the eraser may make the countertop appear dull. All of these cleaning products can cause more harm than good.
You're like the mad scientist of amazing new things to try with watercolors. I'm still marveling at your multi part color theory series. No one's come close to explaining color theory with your depth and clarity. I love your channel, and thanks for taking what must be a lot of time to share your techniques, insights and discoveries.
For Bubble Printing... you might try taking your paper and setting it face down on the bowl you have just blown bubbles into. Easier than trying to put the bubbles onto the paper.
Fun video, clear and concise - thank you. I think the results from the baking sheet surprised me the most - it’s stunning! I can’t wait to try out some swampy water looks❤️
The magic eraser thing is crazy. Did you hear about that somewhere or did you just discover that? Because that's a super effective way of lifting. I bet you could attach a tiny piece of the eraser to the end of a brush for fine details.
Loved the video. I was a sculptor but now mostly paint. When I sculpted I used texture all the time and it really excited me. I'm enjoying texturing in watercolor as I love special effects. They offer many opportunities for happy accidents and for a fresh look.
So VERY COOL!!! I have been experimenting on my own with grains of salt and rubbing alcohol. But this is so great I love it I can't wait to try it especially the bubbles they would make it great for how the water looks in the ocean. Thanks for a great video.
This was wonderful, so many different textures and so much fun. Lovely clear voice and commentary, I will definitely be watching more from Dr. Kano, thank you.
What a fantastic instruction! Looking forward to trying the techniques, especially the one with bubbles! Thank you for getting right to the point and not wasting time with babble that fills so many instructive videos - wonderful instruction!
I loooved the Gauze, Baking Sheet, Alcohol and Bubbles! they give such a different effect. Can't wait to try them, although i'm having issues with either with my paper or my chalky watercolors :(.
This video is amazing! Thank you so much! I’m a huge fan of the drawing gum because it’s latex-free, unlike the majority of masking fluid. I’m allergic to latex, so have avoided masking fluid for years despite loving the effects it has on watercolor. Since finding the drawing gum, I’ve been going nuts with it! No more worrying about a painting killing me!
I taught art in middle school for a lifetime and WISH now I had known these techniques then, so I could have shared. Next lifetime. Thanks, it was an engaging and enjoyable demonstration.
2023 Feb, I loved the whole video It was a great refresher for me. I loved the Gauze as I am experimenting with Book Arts and sewing etc at the moment. Thankyou
Using a teflon “bone” folder to burnish the paper after using the magic eraser usually gets a paintable surface again. This works even for removing staining colors such as reds from the paper
Thanks for this video, I found it really useful. I loved the baking sheet and the bubbles especially. One texture technique I use a lot is cling film and i use it especially for distant hills, or rocks.
Fantastic techniques!!! I love them all and can totally find a use for each.... But I'm going to have fun painting the bubbles with my niece for sure 😊
Thumbs up loved all your ideas. Wow I liked the gauze alcohol bubbles masking fluid not so much the rice If I did use rice I'd put a lot more on the paper. Thank you for sharing. Love the creativity
Whew!!! This is so cool!! I never would have thought of any of this stuff!! Love your videos. Your creativity is off the charts. Thanks so much for sharing!!
As a pretty new art student using water colours I found your information amazing. I love different techniques and will be trying all of these ideas. Very helpful in explanations as well, thank you.
I enjoyed this. Thank you so much. Re Mr. Clean eraser : A reputable artist also told me to use the original (without soap or perfume ). She used a nail buffer to sand the paper to ready it for repainting . It has worked well for me but I’ve only used it on small spaces.
Absolutely! This was, an omission by the creator, which was essential to the viewers! I mean, one doesn't even know if the baking paper was removed or not.
I've forgotten about so many of these! Thank you for reminding me how cool basic kitchen stuff can be with watercolour. An artist I adore (Nen Chang) used very find soap bubble textures to create smoke in one of her pieces and it looked amaaazing. I never knew how she did it before, so thank you for showing me!
I once used sea water in my plein air.. Just an experiment.. Its cool.. It make the paint less "flowy" (i dont know the word.. But it does not run so much) its been 2 years now, and the color still look good..
With my class another one that is fun is putting salt, small and large granules put on wet watercolor is awesome. Also using plastic wrap on wet watercolor is fantastic for doing rocky mountains
Brilliant, I love the way you demo them. I have used many of these textural techniques over the years but always good for a refresher and for new artists to see the wonder of texture in water colour. You are an inspiration. Particularly like the way you did the bubbles by dragging them off with a straw, much better than taking individual bubbles at the end of the straw!!!! You are very generous, thank you.
The soap with bubbles, I’ve never used but it would make a great floor , & the alcohol is wonderful for abstracts ! Thank you for this video ! The watercolor you see as my “ nom de plume” are Mediterranean Flounders with lavender speckles that I painted 37 years ago in watercolor ! It’s my favorite ! I also didn’t know about the “magic eraser”. , will ask tomorrow ! Thanks again !!! Catherine Kutz
For the salt water, I have a lot of success using a lot more salt, dissolved into hot water that is allowed to cool, and painting with it instead of regular water. I don't use my best brushes and I use dabs of paint on a white ceramic plate instead of my regular palette, but it can produce some wonderful textures.
Thanks so much for all these great ideas! I loved the gauze the most, but also the parchment paper and I would love to try all kinds of dried goods like rice, pasta, lentils etc. Maybe those painted macaroni pictures are coming full circle!
Thank you! This is my first time seeing your videos. I love water color because there are so many ways you can play with it. (but too bad that you cannot cover up what you don't like.) This looks like so many fun trick. It will be fun just to do all these techniques on one page.
Your videos are very informative. It gives me lots of ideas on how to experiment with watercolor. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Sending love from the Philippines.
WOW! Thank you for this amazing video. I can’t believe the effects that different surfaces and techniques make. I can’t wait to give it a go. Thank you and best wishes.xx
The pen and masking fluid are definitely something I will experiment with, but I also loved the rice effect and think a quite deliberate patterning could be achieved with it, also intrigued by the random effect of the baking sheet. Thanks for always opening up new possibilities.
Lovely teaching style, Dr. Oto I'm going to try your gauze technique soon. Perhaps using plastic mesh from produce bags, especially the softer ones, might give a similar but different effect? I live on a small farm where I raise sheep. I have 'leftover' raw wool that might look interesting stretched out too, like the gauze technique. I'll let you know if it turns out. Thank you so much for sharing your talents and knowledge.
The salt water was really pretty. Was my favorite. I also likes the bubbles, guaze, masking fluid, and magic eraser. Thanks for sharing. Im trying to learn watercolor but not successful at all yet. But i am just beginning.
Alcohol and magic eraser are my favorite. Gauze could prove interesting. Using calligraphy pen for masking fluid is brilliant (especially on any kind of cards). Very clever, great effects A+ and thanks for sharing.
As I'm new to the whole watercolour genre, I'm very keen to try out all those special effects and really liked the fact that they generally involve simple household items. What is the magic eraser made of? Is that something specific one would need to purchase from an art supplies shop, like the masking fluid?
This was awesome, and I'm not even a watercolorist! One comment I have is that I had been looking forward to the peels & reveals, so I was a little disappointed that you jumped straight to the result - especially the rice -- very curious how you removed the grains. 🙏

Debra Polenz it’s not a cleaning product, why would you use it on your kitchen tops?
@@dianecuthbertson2686 magic eraser is awesome to clean floors.

Fun to watch.Opens the mind that anything just might work to make your work more creative.
Whoa we can actually make some really nice dandelions with isopropyl alcohol

Oh, these are such fun and creative ideas! I have to say that the bubble technique is my favourite. Thank you for the great inspiration.
I like the gauze effect, baking sheet and the alcohol. There’s no excuse for boring backgrounds any more!
Very cool thank you for broadening our minds using textured techniques. I have also used rubber stamps, coarse sand, leaves, palm fronds, BB's, etc.
Thanks for this video, I found it really useful. I loved the baking sheet and the bubbles especially. One texture technique I use a lot is cling film and i use it especially for distant hills, or rocks.
I used the gauze technique to simulate newspaper print and I was very satisfied with how it looked...thank you!

I am delighted to see the different techniques...more interesting than one’s i have used in the past.
Very cool ideas! Thanks for sharing. The magic eraser is the one I'm dying to try.
I’m super intrigued by both bubbles and baking sheet! Can’t wait to try them! Thanks for another great video!
You're so welcome Jill, thanks for watching the video!
Also try plastic food wrap that is lovely and scrunchy
This was really exciting. Can’t wait to try some of these. The comments are very interesting also. Thank you.

You are delightful to listen to! Everything is well explained and demonstrated - I can't wait to try these techniques! Thank you!
Thank you so much Susan!
I would like to have seen how you remove some of the texture medium...the gauze, the rice, the masking fluid.
Me too especially gauze because I've never seen this technique.
I was just going to ask: I assume you take off the gauze, parchment paper, and rice for the finished painting?
Absolutely! This was, an omission by the creator, which was essential to the viewers! I mean, one doesn't even know if the baking paper was removed or not.
@@laurenpiantino8312 One can know the baking paper was removed because one can see the baking paper is gone.

Aw thanks! Yes, I think it would look super amazing!
Brilliant. Thankyou so much for sharing these techniques. And your tutorial is so clear and beautifully done.
That baking sheet and alcohol painting textures are so lovely, I'll definitely use them!!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE. Thank you. I mainly do portraits but I'm always stuck for background ideas. With thanks x
The baking sheet and bubbles techniques are interesting...excellent video.
What fun! I liked them all, but the gauze, the rice, and the making fluid were my favorites. Thanks for sharing.
Love the bubbles!! Definitely going to try that one.
Fabulous ideas. Love the bubbles best

Thank you for some great ideas. I love the bubbles and the parchment especially. I’m thinking trees and water…
You demonstrated some terrific ideas to make textures. Thank you so much for sharing with us 🌸
I like the bubbles and the alcohol...I used to use a lot of cheesecloth in my past pieces...very inspiring...thanks for sharing!

Not tried that but will. I have only chucked dry salt crystals into my work and let them dry so I will be trying a salt solution next 😍
I want to try the bubbles. This was great. Thanks so much for the insights.
I think the bubble technique interested me the most; I will try it soon. Thank you!!

I really like how the gauze, baking sheet, alcohol & bubbles turned out.
Thank you for a great video. I am definitely trying these techniques.
Very interesting and inspiring. The gauze attracts me the most, but all the techniques are great. xx
So awesome! I want to try them all!! Also, I've seen artists simply sprinkle salt on a wash - table salt or coarse ... creates a beautiful texture!
