  • Long term review Stihl MS 170 chainsaw. 18 months of use has proven it to be a useful and reliable little saw. For its price and weight it's a great little saw. Use it accordingly, it is a small saw and it'll last a long while for you.

    I’m surprised with daily use that saw has done good for you! What a great deal👍👍

      Truly blew my mind, always thought these were absolute junk!! It does help tremendously that I always run a sharp chain and do proper maintenance on it.

    I love mine with a 14" Oregon SpeedCut Nano conversion. It rips through cedar trees and I have ran many gallons through it and it is still running strong. The only thing I wish they would have put more thought into was the air intake and filter.

    • @timberandtools
      @timberandtools  8 місяців тому +1

      Yeah very true ! They could have made the intake set up better, I ran a 1/4” on mine for a while. Ultimately went back to 3/8” but it’s a nice little saw for sure!

    Hi, nice video of a nice little saw. I’ve got an ms170 and it’s a pain to start. Once started it can be stopped and restarted with ease. But from cold it’s not easy. Do you have any ideas / tips? Thanks.

      Hard to start is an understatement.
      I use mine for home maintenance so three times a year. It is so frustrating to start.
      Once going it cuts well and hot restarts are never a problem.

      Yes it should be a 3005 mount bar and chain should be exactly the same

    Just got one off a buddy he used it twice I paid $85 for it. How’s your still holding up? I’m planning to use it to clear some small overgrowth trees in back half of woods that o haven’t cleared in 4-5 years

    I know the recommended range is 12-16" but would I be able to run an 18" Stihl Rollomatic-E Bar on this chainsaw?

      If it is sharp I do think it will pull it just fine, funny you mentioned this, I was a video idea I had. Most likely gonna be doing a video on this soon!!!!

      I've owned mine for 19 years. It's my ATV saw for 12k MLS. Came with 14", and think that's all it should have, not to bog. Bean counters recommend 16, don't fall for it.

    Don't laugh, but I need a new climb saw and have no problem using a saw with a tail when I'm in a tree, so geez, 200 bucks for a light saw... why not?

    Idk why guys feel like they have a vagina if they buy this saw. I have a 500i a 462, an 881 and the 170 that I use a lot and I mean I love using it cus it’s so small and it’s a beast. It just doesn’t break so for the price point it’s such a steal

      Totally agree!! They are just a well designed little saw that takes a beating! I have a few of em and always grab the lightest saw possible haha. Lately the 170 hasn’t seen a lot of action because of the ms 250s I’ve been running best kept secret lol 10.1 lbs and after muff mod they are quite powerful for a small saw 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
