No she didn’t. Rick never told his mom what was happening they show it at the end that he lied to his mom and let her think he was being accepted perfectly fine.
From what I rmr his mom wanted him to go to a different school, but Rick insisted on going back to bc he liked it at Degrassi and wanted to prove ppl he changed.
I could see why ? That everyone is bullied Rick for what he did to Terri, but Rick didn't deserve to be treated badly all the time for his regret and his mistakes. Because he didn't do anything to other students
you know i have to be honest i think its admirable that rick wanted to show people at degrassi he had changed and the bullying was wrong but the reality is it was too soon it had only been a few months i think the wounds were still fresh i just think it would of been safer for rick to be at another school and maybe wait a few years and then tried to reach out to the people at degrassi like wheels did and also i think the reason mr. raditch was transfered to another school was because the board felt that if he hadn't let rick back to degrassi this whole thing would not have happened and i kind of agree sometime
I think Rick was trying to change but they didn't even give him a chance. Sure he did messed up stuff but he's trying to change. If you dig deep enough, everyone has done bad things and they just used him being who he was the year prior as a free pass to bullying him
Despite many ppl missed what the writers were trying to do here, I admire it. There’s a reason Sean was there at the end, though we don’t see much of him all season. Rick's character is one that we know has done permanent harm to another human being (Teri), and we can't believe he's here in school after doing so. He is bullied relentlessly because no one believes he is capable of change. Rick is confronted by the one person who he can actually intimately relate to, and he doesn't even know it. We we have been following Sean since day 1 of this show - yes he has disappointed us but we have seen his heart, we know despite his flaws andd his past that he can be trusted. Yet the only reason Sean is here is because he too caused permanent damage to another human being! Years have passed since then and Sean has grown into someone that we know while flawed, IS capable of being good... we are meant to ask ourselves if Rick, who is still a child, was so "bad" that he was beyond redemption. His peers thought so, and now he is dead so we will never have the answer
My god, I've watched so many times that this feels like it should have been obvious... They were just so good at making Sean likeable while making Rick so hateable...
i know rick was bullied a lot, but thatt doesn't mean that Terri had to paid for his anger!! Rick had the nerve of coming back to school after what he did! why he didn't got expelled?
@@zt1053 but school should know the situation, hitting a women its a terrible crime of course i get people hating him but if they knew what happened the best for him is to never let him back.
Rick didn’t assault Teri on school property. He took a break from school and went to therapy. He had the legal right to come back to Degrassi. I think his parents pushed him to go back to Degrassi so they wouldn’t feel like there was something wrong with their son (although there clearly was). I think Rick wanted to transfer schools after all the bullying at Degrassi, but his parents said no, or he was afraid to ask them because they would bully/beat him.
I hate that they are doing this to try and create sympathy for Rick but I’m not a fan of how people thought they were being heroic by provoking an incident. There’s better ways to go about things than just beating a kid down until he decides to snap and takes thing further than they should have.
I rewatched the episode where he put Terri in a coma. Yes, he had major issues (mostly control and anger). Yes, abuse is wrong. But he didn’t mean to intentionally do that. And I’m not defending him by saying what he did was right, but the guy had a lot of issues and acted out on emotions. Maybe before he came back to Degrassi he received psychiatric help to help stabilize him. The bullying was out of hand. I understand the anger initially, but it kept going and going until it was too late and he snapped. What did they expect would happen?
I honestly have to disagree. If that incident was the FIRST time anything like that happened with Terri and him then I could kind of see that point but he had hit her before and showed abusive in multiple forms. I see your point but the history of him being abusive was totally there.
@@_ann1313 Truth is, I never cared about Terri, at all. She was nothing more than a plot device after she left the show and after the whole school shooting, she has been never brought up again. It was like she was a fart, and that’s how I’ll remember her as. As a fart
I think Rick’s parents had abused him all along. He ended up stealing his father’s handgun. It’s extremely rare for Canadians to own handguns. His Dad must have been a weird guy to not only own a handgun, but keep it unlocked or not hide the keys well.

This is why you can't just believe women's abuse stories you have the nerve to lie when we've all seen the show 🙄 😂
Rick was a vulnerable narcissist who, instead of moving on and going to another school, chose to stay and force others to like / forgive him. That's not how you seek forgiveness or redemption. I don't condone bullying, but these are kids, and they are only acting the way kids react. It's also obvious the writers, much like everyone did at the time, equated the Columbine shootings with bullying. Which, for the record, was an excuse, as both kids had severe issues outside of "bullying", and were essentially neglected by their parents and acting out.
I don’t think Rick was a narcissist. Narcissists are smart in a way that they know how to manipulate people to get power over them. Rick choosing to stay at Degrassi when he clearly was unable to manipulate anyone or get any power, makes him look either stupid or possibly autistic. It’s also possible he is dysfunctional due to trauma from being raised by abusive parents.
Like most abusers rick would nearly kill terri then apologize then do it again then apologize again then do it again and so on. I think i saw a similar situation in degrassi classic. Abuser maybe truly sorry (or at least very convincing) yet they refused to get help or stop themselves in anyway of doing it again. Still they expect the girls to stay with them anyway. Who would believe the abuser is truly sorry? More importantly, who would believe the abuser would never do it again? You decide.
The difference is though, the writers had the character himself acknowledge that he what he did was wrong and that he was clearly trying to get help, he was going to therapy. He was trying to get help but for some reason out of his control he was put back in Degrassi for everyone to exacerbate his mental issues.
wasn't it his choice to return to the 1 school he wouldn't be welcomed? He went after those who gave 2nd chance instead of his bullies. Jimmy for what he "over heard" and emma for rejecting him. toby would of been caught in crossfire. Sean didn't even take part in the bullying. I honestly thought that Rick didn’t deserve this crap UNTIL I actually found out what he did to Terri. Let’s just say, I ain’t providing any sympathy for him anymore.
It's interesting to see a shift in the fandom's general opinion about Rick. During the release of these episodes, most seemed to sympathize with his situation after the coma incident. Nowadays, it's the opposite. Most people don't feel sympathy for him or even go as far to say that he deserved the constant that harassment he received. I wonder what that says about our human nature?
That’s a lie. All I see are comments feeling sorry for him. And a lot of them are years old. Either way, if people don’t feel sorry for him, then they don’t feel sorry for him. He’s 100% deserved it. Not to mention he brought it on himself. It says a lot about you that you care more about him being harassed than you do him being an abuser.
@DavidKen878 Wrong. I care about both parts equally, as they are both equally wrong, deserved, or not. I'm simply making an observation. Also, I ended with a question rather than a statement in my original post, so you couldn't have known what I was initially thinking without first making assumptions. I think the fact that there is any sympathy for him at all speaks to how well the actor portrayed him. They could have hired someone completely unlikable and one dimensional but they chose someone that you wouldn't normally think of as an abuser. I think that one decision gave the character depth and why this whole situation is conflicting to watch. She hates Rick (obviously), then she does this whole thing at school where they protest domestic abuse so the entire school goes against Rick. Now the entire school hates him and bullies him, and she's upset about that. When she's the one who started it?!
This happened to a kid at my school, but it was a bit worse. The only difference is that he caught on quickly, and handled it in the best way possible: by suing for damages! A great lawyer once said, "If a poor man punches you, punch back, but if a rich man pinches you, let him do it and bill him later."
Rick gets alot of needlessly strong hate in the comment section.. People tend to forget that he's supposed to be an immature teen, who got caught up in his emotions when he accidentally, yes accidentally put Terri into the hospital. Then he returns to school to get this level of bullying!? Rick was abusive yeah, but not to the extreme people are saying he was. Not enough to warrant this level of treatment. Harassed the kid so much he mentally snapped and sought out ending the lives of the people who harassed him. Even in this state, couldn't look people in the eyes when he shot.

Maybe I’m wrong, but why did the mother allow her son to be in school with all this happening? I get money may be tight but as a parent if my kid ever did this I know hes gonna have a target on his back, and from what was shown here, thats not even the craziest that can be done, And sometimes not even the kids in school to, the parents or siblings will definitely plan something to really hurt the kid in multiple ways, I would rather go broke then see my kid beaten and traumatized, Mind You I’m not sympathetic to Rick, I just don’t under why the mom didn’t try another school.
No she didn’t. Rick never told his mom what was happening they show it at the end that he lied to his mom and let her think he was being accepted perfectly fine.
From what little is shown of the mom she’s a bit naive and unable to see when her son is lying to make her feel better.
Seeing abusers getting a taste of their own medicine is the most satisfying thing to see. Rick deserved every bit of his karma.
Are you going in therapy?
Degrassi invented cancel culture
you know i have to be honest i think its admirable that rick wanted to show people at degrassi he had changed and the bullying was wrong but the reality is it was too soon it had only been a few months i think the wounds were still fresh i just think it would of been safer for rick to be at another school and maybe wait a few years and then tried to reach out to the people at degrassi like wheels did and also i think the reason mr. raditch was transfered to another school was because the board felt that if he hadn't let rick back to degrassi this whole thing would not have happened and i kind of agree sometime
Yeah but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the first time he’s shown he changed right? Wasn’t he saying that before putting Terri in a coma?

I think Rick was trying to change but they didn't even give him a chance. Sure he did messed up stuff but he's trying to change. If you dig deep enough, everyone has done bad things and they just used him being who he was the year prior as a free pass to bullying him
As messed as the Terri situation was, this was just as bad. They used her situation to justify bullying Rick and then he snapped.
He had ot coming
I’m so glad someone understood what the writers were trying to convey.
Excellent point
Emma caused all of this too.
i know rick was bullied a lot, but thatt doesn't mean that Terri had to paid for his anger!! Rick had the nerve of coming back to school after what he did! why he didn't got expelled?
I guess because it didn’t happen during school
@@zt1053 but school should know the situation, hitting a women its a terrible crime of course i get people hating him but if they knew what happened the best for him is to never let him back.
Nah they been picking on Rick
Like?? What did they think was gonna happen? It’s like continuously beating an animal into a corner and then crying “I had no idea!” when it attacks.
My thing is why did his dumbass move into the school, THE SAME SCHOOL, where his victim used to go to? He thought people was gonna forget?!
Ephraim Ellis was one of the best actors on Degrassi
Yes he was. He and Mike Lobel both could have given lessons.
Amazing actor, one of the best in the series.
I guess bullying in Degrassi is basically the students hobby.
As a fart
He did mention therapy before
I think Rick’s parents had abused him all along. He ended up stealing his father’s handgun. It’s extremely rare for Canadians to own handguns. His Dad must have been a weird guy to not only own a handgun, but keep it unlocked or not hide the keys well.
I believe he was really trying to be a better person before the paint thing pushed him over the edge.

It's satisfying to aee Rick get bulled and threatened because of what he did to Terri.
THEY'RE ALL GONNA LAUGH AT YOU!

Facts
3:19 yo I couldn’t tell if he was gonna hurt Emma
As far as the Fandom goes, I was talking about the fanbase at large, not exclusively this comments section, even tho the top comment supports my initial statement. Seems to me you choose what you wanna see to support your argument.

You don't wanna feel bad for him because of the awful things he's done, but because he appears so friendly and unassuming, you can't help but feel for him when he's getting all of this humiliation.
