Огорчения, радости словно слились,
Но теперь вместо них серым призраком грусть.
Холода наступили, и ветер поёт
Голосами метелей, буранов и вьюг
Невесёлую песню, где боль вместо нот,
А играет оркестр без сердца и рук.
Застилают снега и леса, и поля,
Затерялся во мгле душу греющий свет,
Из промокшей печали не сложишь костра,
А из веры погибшей не сваришь обед.
Волчий вой вдалеке предвещает беду,
Голодающий зверь ищет свежую плоть,
Я навстречу ему в полумраке иду,
Ни себя, ни врагов не могу побороть.
Пусть ветра разорвут эту вечную ночь,
Пусть останется сном нерушимый покой!
Все мечты, все желания, чувства все -- прочь!
Позади моя жизнь, и не будет другой!
Только ветер услышал отчаянья крик,
И утих, словно понял -- чего торопить?!
Будто сдавленный гордостью мудрый старик,
Он оставил нетронутой тонкую нить.
Оборвать мою жизнь не позволил ему
То ли страх, то ли силы другим он отдал,
Улетел к океану, в другую страну,
Разбиваясь о крепости жаждущих скал.
Я остался один, в ледяной тишине,
В моих мыслях лишь образ большого огня.
Но настанет тот час -- возвратится ко мне
Ветер смерти моей и свобода моя...

My former pain-my present life,
The row of interruptions, the worn out way,
The grief, the joy are like conflated,
But now instead the sadness like a grey ghost.
The coldness has begun and the wind sings
with the voices of blizzards and drifts.
No joyful song, where pain instead of notes,
plays an orchestra without heart, without hands.
The snow covers the forests and fields
The soul warming light has been lost in the darkness,
Out of soggy sadness you can't start a fire
Out of perished believe you can't cook a dinner.
The howling of the wolves in the distance, augurs calamity,
The starving animal is searching for fresh meat,
I'm approaching it in half-light,
Neither me, nor the enemies can I fight.
May the winds tear this endless night apart,
May the undisturbed silence still be the dream.
All dreams, all wishes, all feelings - gone!
My life is over and there will be no other!
Only the wind hears the despaired shout,
And he stretched like he understood - why hurry?
As if the wise old man suppressed by pride,
he left the thin thread untouched.
To tear my life hasn't allowed him,
Either the fear or he has given the force to others,
Flew away to the ocean, in a different land,
Smashing oneself on the thirsty rocks.
I'm alone in this icy silence,
In my thoughts there's only the shape of the big fire.
