"When I Am Among The Trees" is about the calmness, majesty, and beauty of being surrounded by trees and walking in the woods.
Remarks -
Walking among trees has health benefits. Shinrin-yoku or "forest bathing" is a practice in Japan, where people are encouraged to visit and spend time in a forest to improve their health.
Studies have confirmed that spending time within a forest setting can reduce psychological stress, depressive symptoms, and hostility, while at the same time improving sleep and increasing both vigor and a feeling of liveliness.
Mary Jane Oliver was an American poet who won the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize. Her work is inspired by nature, rather than the human world, stemming from her lifelong passion for solitary walks in the wild. It is characterized by a sincere wonderment at the impact of natural imagery, conveyed in unadorned language. In 2007 she was declared to be the country's best-selling poet.

I will if you stop posting Mary Oliver.
During the pandemic quarantine, I started taking long walks every day to get out of the house and because I live alone and needed to see other people. I gradually came to know the trees in my neighborhood individually as welcoming friends. This poem captures it perfectly and much better than I can express. The trees really did "save me daily." They became such good friends to me that I invited all of them to my daughter's wedding when the pandemic was over. They were there. They all came.
I am not usually a fan of poetry, but this is transcendant, beautiful, and speaks to my soul. Thank you for sharing!❤
Thank you so much 🙏❤

Mary is a kindred spirit of mine . She thinks the same way but she has the fascinating way of painting restful pictures with words in my mind . I love this poem ,because I could never live anywhere without trees to escape to . May my God bless her always .🕊️
Trees are wonderful❤
To go easy, to be filled with light, and to shine.
YES!

This is perhaps my most favorite poem. I get chills every time I watch this. A very beautiful reading.
Thank you 🙏
Her words touch my heart and I am transformed. 🙏
When the noise of the world is too much, we are helped by turning to the mystic. Mary Oliver is a spirit guide. Let us walk slowly and commune with the trees.
When I was overwhelmed, I would go to a place under trees and listen to the wind move the leaves.
@@redsol3629 That's beautiful and helpful, thanks :)
I thought this was Mary Oliver reading -- but it's Amanda Palmer who may be more Mary Oliver than Mary Oliver herself -- holding back the tears here in Philadelphia on a beautiful spring day...beautifully done Mary/Amanda, thankyou
Thank you 🙏

Among the trees speaks to the potential of man to be good and patient and kind. Can we treasure these things, passing them on to others, at some point in time ?
How beautiful.
Thank you 🙏
At the base and pinnacle of my soul is a tree. It's a different tree everyday of every season. I couldn't survive without them nor would I want to....not here, not ever. I think I may have been a tree once, I can only hope🌲
Wonderful. Thank you.
Thanks for watching 🙏
Read by a beautifully waving tree, it seems ♥️
I agree.😊🌸
This is beautiful!
Thank you 🙏
When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.
I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.
Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.”
The light flows from their branches.
And they call again, “It's simple,” they say,
“and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine.
Beautiful 🤩
Thank you 🙏

I love Mary Oliver's poetry, and Amanda Palmer read this poem, "When I Am Among The Trees", beautifully well.

Thank you 🙏
Absolutely Beautiful❤
Thank you 🙏
Im not crying
Great poem! It has a very Thoreau-like sentiment. I wonder if Mary Oliver ever read Walden.
🌹Mary
Good poem that is narrated well, thank you!
Thank you so much 🙏

❤️ 💜 Salute 💜 ❤️
Thank Q 🙏
"When I am among the trees," I am surrounded by intellectual equals, I guess. "I am so distant from the hope of myself...," means what, exactly? "The light flows from their branches..." is equally inept.
Un espectáculo! Hermoso!
Thank you 🙏
She is the female walt Whitman
I agree ❤

👍🙏🥰
😭
Nice poem, nice voice; but why the music that hurt my ears?
We can know the one who made everything, Jesus 🙏
Away with the faeries imo.
