    My channel deals with the later bigger hp motors when mercury wanted to take the bigger is badder and when the climb to hp dominance was everything. Your right these were a pain to work on. But like most of mercurys stuff cutting-edge engineering was a thing for the times. I will never get why the first inlines were direct drive with a pull start. So many men overboard 😅

    What's the gas mix ratio? I have an old Johnson that's 16:1 but I wonder if you could safely run a little less oil with the quality of these newer oils. Too scared to test out my theory though, haha.

      I wouldn't risk it if I were you. I'm pretty sure those powerheads WERE NOT needle & roller bearings until much later. They were still using the sintered bronzed / brass babbit type. Even with today's more advanced oils... I wouldn't risk using less oil due to those babbit bearings. 😢

      if its a plain bearing engine with plain bearings on the crank end of the connecting rods stick to the mix they need the oil to survive
