Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve: Where the Wild Roams Free
    A Natural Haven
The Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve is not just a protected area; it’s a symphony of biodiversity, a refuge for elusive creatures, and a testament to conservation efforts. Spanning an impressive 1,411.6 square kilometers, this reserve straddles both the Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats, creating a vital link between these majestic mountain ranges. Here, nature thrives, and the pulse of the wild echoes through dense forests, grasslands, and meandering rivers.
    The Tiger’s Domain
At the heart of this sanctuary lies its most revered inhabitant: the tiger. In 2013, the reserve was officially designated as a tiger reserve, making it the third largest in Tamil Nadu. Imagine the thrill of spotting these striped lords of the jungle as they prowl through the underbrush, their amber eyes reflecting both mystery and might.
    A Corridor of Life
But the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve is more than just a tiger’s realm. It serves as a crucial wildlife corridor bridging the gap between the Western and Eastern Ghats. As you wander through its lush expanse, you’ll encounter a vibrant cast of characters: elephants, gaurs, sambars, leopards, and an array of avian wonders. Over 230 bird species call this place home, their melodies weaving into the rustling leaves.
    The Nilgiri Connection
Picture this: the reserve acts as a genetic thread connecting five other protected areas. It rubs shoulders with the Billigiriranga Swamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary, the Sigur Plateau, Mudumalai National Park, Bandipur National Park, and the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary. Together, they form a harmonious ecosystem, each species playing its part in the grand theater of life.
    A Journey Through Time
The roots of the Sathyamangalam Forest Division run deep. Once part of the Coimbatore district, these lands were notified under the Indian Forests Act, 1927. Over the years, guardians have stood watch-range officers, guards, and conservationists-protecting the delicate balance of nature. In 2008, the government declared it a wildlife sanctuary, and in 2011, its boundaries expanded, embracing more of the wild.
    The TX2 Triumph
In 2022, the reserve achieved a remarkable feat. It won the prestigious TX2 award from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in collaboration with wildlife conservation agencies. Why? For its remarkable growth in tiger population-a testament to tireless efforts and unwavering commitment.
    Visit and Witness
So, dear traveler, if you seek adventure, if your heart beats in sync with the wild, venture to the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve. Walk its trails, listen to the whispers of ancient trees, and perhaps, just perhaps, catch a glimpse of the elusive tiger-the embodiment of strength, grace, and untamed beauty.
For more information, visit the official Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve website. 🌳🐾
Remember, in this sanctuary, every rustle of leaves tells a story, and every footprint leads to wonder. 🌏✨

Hey.. Thanks for this video. I was planning to make a car trip with my family from bangalore via Dimbam ghat. Curious on how much difference in time and road conditions are if i take Malavalli to Kolligala and then this one. Is it safe to travel in the day time?

Thank you so much for your comments, I am glad you liked the video. Kindly subscribe to the channel, it's a request.
Coming to the matter, it's absolutely safe taking the Kollegal Dhimbam highway via Germalam. After 4 or 5kms from kollegal, you take a right turn and start driving behind the BR hills range. The initial few kms of this road was not in good condition with the regular torn broken pothole ride. But as you go.further ahead, the road gets better and better. Road quality on the TN side is too good, Karnataka side I would.say average but drivable. Pls note, after Kollegal the only place you get a decent restaurant is in Germalam very close to the check post and then only at Dhimbam. You will get drinking water and fuel at Odeyarapalya and Lokkanahalli but better to fuelup at Kollegal. The entire route is pretty narrow and hence pls don't rush while driving, ensure to.give some extra time for yourself. If you have kids traveling with you, then, a 15 to 20mins stop at Ghermalam is worth it, get them to.walk around and they will.love it. Also something interesting is the Tibetan settlement at Dhondenling, it's a nice place to visit, not at all crowded. So, try to visit the Taksham Monastery Dhondenling. There is a Buddha temple as well. Carry a good amount of water and some food. Ensure to have a tyre inflater and a puncture kit too. This will give you additional confidence. I hope.all these details help you. Feel free and drop a msg in case you need additional information. I Will be glad to share. Enjoy your drive and stay safe.
The best time to drive on this stretch is between 7am and 6pm.

My suggestion is you do this trip after the election is over as checking has stated everywhere and it happens more frequently as you get towards interstate borders and highways. These checks are really irritating and frustrating.
