I went to Backwoods Guitar Store & bought every old album they had of Gene Watson. Love the song, "Paper Rosie" growing up, & Love All his songs. They put these young kids b4 him, in the Hall of Fame, which don't sing the old way. Disgraceful & Disrespectful to Aman like Mr. Watson!!! 😢
He and I are the same age and I've listened to him since I was 14and I still his voice he is one of the greatest but singers that they will ever be to sing a song he's as good as any.
It makes me feel sick to my stomach to think that music, AND THIS IS MUSIC, has been traded for the CRAP we hear now ....and people listening to it and ALLOWING it to happen is the most stunning thing.

But must say, G Brooks, G Straight, etc. their considered old now, but I'm older. Lol Didn't know about G Watson till about 2013, love his voice and love to hear him sing. The song" The Old Roman Soldier " makes me stop and think, I was that Old Roman Soldier, when at 9yrs old, Lubbock Tx made Jesus Christ, Lord of my life. Today I proclaim His Word to all that will listen. Think about it for a moment are/we're you that Old Roman Soldier.

Generally it is Mike Johnson on steel or Sonny Garrish, a big part of the early Gene Watson records and his sound. Mike was overseas with Reba and we were proud to include Paul Franklin on this one! His voice has held up remarkably well over the years. One of the best hymns ever written. Wish the writer/writers had been identified, especially since they are the most important element in the production. Lot's of vocalists have recorded gospel hymns. We have no way of knowing for sure if the singers themselves are Christians or not. Regardless, they are being used by God, derive well deserved benefits themselves, and are a blessing to us all. But somehow certain singers give me the impression that they believe and have faith in what they are singing about. Gene Watson tops this list, along with Skeeter Davis, David Houston, Jimmy Dean, The Wilburn Brothers, Billy Walker, Jim Reeves, Wanda Jackson, Ray Price, Jimmy Wakely, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, and Slim Whitman. Only two of the above are still with us. God bless them, and I hope the others are now in the arms of the Lord "in the sweet by and by."
