I am a professional artist and faux painter. I truly enjoyed this video and your explanation of colors you used and how you painted this pieces. They look really good. Thank you,
Good morning Chris! Thank you. I appreciate your compliment very much. As you can imagine, I've received quite a bit of critique on this particular video. I am so glad to hear you enjoyed it and like the finished look. I hope you have an amazing day! 🤗😘 Xoxoxo
I need a list of the paint and colors you use. I love the look
@@maryannpascarella9679 Hi MaryAnn! I am working on another thrift store haul and then makeover video for later this week. I will make sure I have a list of paint colors, cost, materials, etc. I am also doing a giveaway for hitting 30k subscribers so make sure you are subscribed and have "ALL" notifications turned on. The next few videos will be fun! Xoxoxo
So do you think she is BEAUTIFUL??? Lol. Of course she is.
Edit::: oops she is wearing a wedding ring- good woman
Sometimes I think “stop painting, don’t go any further, it looks good” but then I see the end result and then I see perfection ☺️❤️
Between your voice, the painting and the piano music.... I could feel my anxiety slipping away. You’re so beautiful, and your voice and painted creations are so pretty. Happy blessed day! Love your videos! ❤️❤️❤️
Wow, thank you SO much for all the compliments and kind words. ❤🤗❤ I am so happy to know you like my videos! I am about to upload a new one so I hope you like that one, too! Have a wonderful night! Xoxoxo
Nik So true! It’s exudes Southern gentility.
Many southern have smooth accents. 😘🎠🚂
I totally agree, your voice is what got me to keep watching your video; that and your painting technique got me to subscribe. OMG, what a fantastic job!! You have totally inspired me. Thank you!
For me too and my pup!
As someone who lives in the French countryside I can tell you ‘ you nailed it ‘ , I often see pieces like this at our bric a brac. They are priced way too high so now with your help I will try and recreate with cheaper items I find.❤️😻
I spent over 2 hours at our local thrift store yesterday, it’s my obsession. The way you layer paint is masterful. Your channel has now become my favorite. I’m learning so much from your techniques. Thank you!! 👏🏻❤️👏🏻❤️
Hello Mary! Wow, thank you so much! I LOVE thrifting a little too much also. Lol! I am tickled that you love my channel! It is so nice to hear and warms my heart. 🤗 I hope you have an amazing weekend. (Stay tuned because I have a shop with me type video coming up! ) 🧡 Xoxoxo
This is the best demonstration of transforming pieces into French country that I’ve ever seen. So pretty! Thanks!
Love the music selection. It really makes the video so relaxing to watch.
Would like a track of what she is playing in the back ground. Very nice. BEAUTIFUL.
I agree
Perhaps you can put your music selections at the end of your videos, or down in description?
I have been shopping at thrift stores for almost 20 years when it comes to decorating and everything has always turned out awesome. Of course right now I have the farm house theme in my house and some stuff comes from places like hobby lobby and Michaels but a lot of things come from the thrift stores and yard sales and the house is beautiful. I love it.
And may I say, your choice of music is perfect - nice and relaxing and low volume. :)
I don’t understand why people watch a video and then are so nasty when they don’t like something. These are not antiques or vintage they are just decor items that have been donated and putting your spin on it is more than okay. Great tutorial.
1966 is vintage
Bluebelle51 just because it’s vintage doesn’t mean it’s good or valuable.
Sometimes people throw away valuables they don't know the value of. I would leave that little cabinet alone until I researched it. It looks like it might be a valuable piece.
I'd also research the roosters. They're signed and dated and I found them on Pinterest.
Meira Avrahami it’s valuable to sell 1)if you want to sell it or 2) you can find a buyer. She bought these for her own use so adjusted them to suit her taste. Often pieces have a value put on them but no buyers can be found.
She knows paint. Lovely pieces.
Your chandelier was STUNNING...truly beautiful.
Everything looks really nice. What a difference paint makes.
OMG! I love French Country! You did an amazing job! 😍😍👏👏
I’m beyond shocked with the transformation! 😍😍 wow
They’re all very beautiful.
The pieces are wonderful and I wouldn't pay much attention to people that are overly critical.. you are creating art from your perspective and I happen to think all of it looks amazing.. everyone has a different eye but honestly being a crafter myself I do not like to see others come and be so critical on other people's work when they have a choice whether to subscribe or not.. in any event, you were in my suggestions tonight and I'm glad I came across and I to subscribe to because I love the way that you layer and texture your pieces.. you definitely found some really good deals.. you have a great voice for videos as well and that makes a lot of difference to as it keeps people pulled in and you're very thorough with your techniques and that helps a lot of people that are inspired to do their own. You're doing a great job and I will be following for sure!! Thank you for sharing your gift.
Wow, thank you for all your kind words! 🤗 I appreciate everything you said. It is hard to spend hours and hours and hours to make a 15 min video and have people write rude comments. However, I always see the comments as a reflection of the person saying them. Just as your comment is a reflection of your big heart and positive outlook. So, thanks again and I'm so happy you liked the video! I hope you have an amazing weekend! 🧡 Xoxoxo
M Summer-- Are you saying that no one is entitled to express their opinion unless it’s flattering? This is a public forum. If people post their videos, they should expect some honest feedback, and not all of it will agree with them, or you. I find it a hoot that the majority on here are raving about “French Country,” while bashing “old farmhouse.” Why can’t someone simply like or dislike a piece, instead of a style? Further, why aren’t they allowed to say so? I personally find it odd that an old piece is chosen for its whimsy and “patina,” then altered beyond hope. Once that original character is buried, it’s gone for good. Feel free to plaster some cheap Walmart china crap and make it "stylish," but leave the old stuff with character alone.
Lucy Gray It’s probably negative comments like yours that she’s talking about. I can’t stand watching a good, productive video and then listen to comments such as yours. It makes you seem jealous and not very nice.
But at the same time, you have people who destroy valuable antiques. A lot of that stuff you find at thrift stores is worth a lot of money. Those roosters for example could easily go for $50 to someone who collects that sort of thing. If you paint it, youve made it worthless. Never ever ever paint old glass or ceramic, (a plain glass bottle just sold for $60,000 for example) and always take a very close look at wooden furniture. Ive seen people put chalk paint on a heppelwhite and original chippendale.
Wouldn't the wall hanging be beautiful fitted with a piece of glass and used as an occasional table?
I never find things like this in thrift shops. I loved the finial, the green bowl and the metal wall hanging. They were beautiful when finished.
I love all of these upcycles!! Especially the first one, omg! Also the green one looks a million times better after
The chandelier turned out gorgeous! :)
Amazing!..
ROOSTERS are my favourite, they are adorable, just love'em.
Gotcha love the mailbox .
I love all pieces. I love all pieces as a set.
aww maxine is adorable. Love love love how the pieces turned out. thanks
I love how you started the video taking us thrifting. I love the thrift stores. I feel I'm not very good with a paint brush and mixing colors. I thought the green piece was absolutely beautiful and was cringing when you started to paint it lol. You did an awesome job on all of the piece. Looking forward to see them in your decor.
Thank you ever so much and continue to inspire us with your creativity 👍😁💕
Hello Linda! Thank you so much! I know, I know... the green piece was a battle inside for me, too. Lol. I love the end result though. 🧡 Using a paint brush for this technique is easier than you think. Anyone can do it! Give it a try. 😉 Have an amazing weekend! 🤗 Xoxoxo
It's only paint and sometimes you can find the colors you like without all the layers. Practice on something you have laying around the house first.
We are not going to pay them any attention. I'm on my way to a thrift store lol🙊👍🏼
Anyone who says this technique cannot be messed up doesn't understand the artistic intuition involved in something like this. It is truly amazing and why so many of us pay others to do this for us.
I love how the owls turned out!
All of our thrift stores have gone crazy with pricing. It’s bad when you can gonto hobby lobby and get it cheaper. Lol. You found some awesome deals. I am LOVING your painting technique!!!! Don’t know why I have thought of layering many layers of paint but going to go grab something and start. Lol. Btw, love the music playing. It’s all so relaxing.
Hi Suzanne! Yes! A lot of thrift stores are way higher than retail. It's insane! I'm so glad you liked the technique. I just find that it adds more dimension, if that's the look you're after. Send me some before and after pics on IG! 🤗👍🏻 Have an amazing week! 🧡 Xoxoxo
whats a thirst store?
I agree, pricing is ridiculous, who's pricing these items, probably cheaper at homesense too and its new .... that's why i always go when its 50% off day, or every tuesday it's 30% off for seniors, so i take my mom with me :)
You can always try yard sales, where you will find things at a fraction of the price that thrift stores charge.
Remember: One man's trash is another man's treasure. :-)
I totally agree 😊. That’s where the true treasure are
Good morning “Silky Voice “ excellent scores!! My thrift stores SUCK ! Lol rarely do I find treasures and the price is sometimes to high . Thanks for the inspiration to keep looking 🤗
I was thinking the same thing. She has an amazing voice. Very relaxing to listen to her. The background music was fantastic. May I ask where you got it? What website?
Hello Sherry!! Thank you! I am finding the same thing at a lot of thrift stores, high prices for not so great stuff. But it's great when you score a treasure during the hunt! Have an amazing weekend! I have a shop with me coming up soon.🧡 Xoxoxo
@@carolgrzeschik9700 Hello Carol! I will get the link in the morning and share it! I'm too lazy to get out of bed right now. Lol. 😉 Xoxoxo
All I can say ! is wow 😮 beautifully done 👍👍
I just love this painting technique
The big round decor would be pretty as a table top with a round glass too. Pretty 💖
Omg, you are so incredibly talented. Your thrift store makeovers with your painting technique, show stoppers, every single piece.
Can I please go shopping with you? Ha! You find the best items and your transformations are incredible, so impressed. Great video!
Have a wonderful weekend! Xoxo 😘
Hello Liz! Yes, let's go shopping together! 😍 We are going to need a box truck. 🚚 🚛 Lol! I have a sister that lives in Virginia and when I visit, I always pass so many little Mom and Pop antique shops, but never stop because we're just trying to get there! It is about an 8 hour drive. I'm so glad you liked the painting technique, too. Btw, loved your topiaries! ❤🎄 You got my wheels spinning with ideas! Have a blessed weekend! 🤗🧡 Xoxoxo
Never having been a crafter hasn't stopped me from enjoying your videos. Seriously calming zen experience.
Love the bird print
Love how you give your thrift finds a makeover. I’m going to give it a try.❤️
These are absolutely beautiful! Just inspiring!
love all the texture of your items
Thank for showing how to distress and paint those different objects. They look great, again, I'm going to do a couple things like it. So many great ideas!!
You made those ugly, tacky, owls look amazing! At first, I was sad about the chickens but they looked great too!
natsen04 I just started the video and my first thought is no not the chickens!!!
It's so nice to come across upcycling to something other than rustic farmhouse...which is definitely not my style.
Thank you Michel! 🧡 Xoxoxo
The Painted South though I do like farmhouse I’m with Michel in the way it’s good to see some variety! I love old world styles as well great job!
Yes, nice to see something different.
Michel C yes! i dont mind saying i hate anything farmhouse lol
Michel C , I second that , I don’t want my house like a farm house I much rather this style
between my tears, this reminds me of what i used to do and what i used to be. thank you
Aw, thank you! I'm not sure where you are in your life, but I hope those are tears of joy and happiness as you reflect on your time passed. Life surely is a journey and ever changing. I wish you the best and hope your days are filled with laughter and love. ❤🤗😘 Xoxoxo
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE These! what a thrill it is that you have shared your gift for seeing what could be made with the inexpensive, but textural unique. Can't wait to see more. I have an entire house that will need to be done hopefully by spring. the original house was done in a French Country style, but not to this level. We lost it to a fire 2 years ago January 7th. Finally, they are getting started on the new house. And now have some new techniques to use on the decor. Thanks again for sharing. I can't wait to try this!!!
I like your painting technique👍🏻The pieces look better after the makeover
I think the thrift stores are trying to stop the people from grabbing and reselling but they also got very greedy too.
Too many 'thrift' stores have been over charing for years. I love that clever people are repurposing those finds into even better and more beautiful pieces.
Yeah, I don't know how she found so many deals. Every thrift store I have ever visited sell items at such high cost like they're new or something. I never find any good deals in them at all. Example: A plain glass cookie jar we wanted to transform into a moss terrarium was $10. Really? It's a thrift store, not Target.
I hate to tell you this but a large part of the business a thrift store gets is from resellers. If they didn't exist, the stores wouldn't be able to stay in business. I have seen a ton of resale shops not only lose business for this reason but also go out of business. Most (not all) resale shops are non profit and receive most of their items by donation. They have to turn over their inventory quickly because they have inventory coming in the door constantly. It doesn't work so well when you're prices are so high that you have items sitting for months and months on your shelves.
@@strandedinseattle9931 I believe you can get a plain glass hinged top jar for $8 at WalMart, a gallon size dill pickle jar is usually $5 or less. They really do overcharge.
Also, our thrift store here in town used to sell used underwear, cleaned and on a hanger as if they were something special. Gross, and they were not gently used either. lol
Beautiful finds and work. Hello beautiful Maxine!
For the love! Guys watch something else if up cycling is bothersome. She did an amazing job showing us ART on these otherwise ditched pieces. I just think they are beautiful. Great job and thank you for sharing your technique. I’m excited to try it for myself. Love love up cycling things of all kinds!
The roosters are my favorite, just because I happen to like unique, artistic chickens, but I enjoyed all the pieces you refurbished.
I agree ! I loved those roosters so much I went searching on eBay & found identical ones - I found several pairs if you want some 😊
@@Melody-285 Thanks, Melody, but I down-sized several years ago and no longer have room for a lot of decorative pieces.
Jo Johnston Good for you, Jo ! I don’t really need to downsize as much as just get rid of things I don’t need - seems as soon as I give something away, though, I wish I had it back - lol
Suzyqs Hi ! I’m sorry, I didn’t actually word that very well - I had bought one extra pair, but saw several on EBay - gave the other pair to a friend - I think I found them by putting in Vintage rooster pair - they weren’t hard to find - I’ll look, too & write you again if I find some 😊
Well those pieces are just beautiful ! I love it ! What a talent you have with such great ideas. Maxine you are a beautiful work of art yourself.
Thank you Jody! Yes, Maxine is a one of kind masterpiece. I just love her to pieces! Xoxoxo
Gorgeous. Finally, someone who paints like I do.
Very Nice work, beautiful. You found some very good deals !
You have inspired me to head out tomorrow , I’m headed for the thrift store I love you’re ideas thanks Teresa
Hi Teresa!!! Thank you so much! I hope you found some goodies at the thrift store! Please let me know! I always love to hear what treasures have been found. 😉 Best wishes! 😘🤗 Xoxoxo
Garage sales have MUCH lower prices than thrift stores! And they're FUN! I've found TONS of treasures for extremely low prices.
Oh wow!you certainly Have a gift, these are amazing, thank you !!xx
You have a great eye for thrifting and transformation! Most people start and stop with one color chalk paint. You know how to create classical patina. Oh, I forgot, I also like your voice-over low key deliver. Nothing turns me off more than those who are way too much in love with the sound of their own voices thereby accomplishing very little.
Great paint technique, love how the paint really transformed each piece with the French country patina . I too am a lover of French country and have touches of it thru out my home. Thank you for the painting lesson and the inspiration as I now am tempted to thrift some pieces and give it a try. Bless your week.😊
Hello Kathryn! I'm in love with French Country decor and drool over decor photos on Pinterest on a daily basis. Lol! I'm so glad you liked the painting technique. I hope you find some awesome thrifted goodies to paint! Have an amazing and fun weekend! 🧡 Xoxoxo
Excellent tutorial! I'd love to see how you incorporate these pieces into your holiday decor. I'm sure they'll look amazing!
I love the French Country style! Now I know what to look for when I go thrifting. Never occurred to me to paint the things I find. 🤗
This reminded me of ceramic panting with my grandmother so many good memories and laughs.... Thank You
I think breaking the glass was providential. It came out great 👍
I'd love a product link with all color names used. Awesome video. One of the best outcomes I have seen. Thank You for taking the time to add relaxing music to your lovely voice.
I wasn’t sure I was going to dig this but it’s beautiful! It’s amazing how you know what colors to use and how to use them. Thanks for the inspiration!
I love how they look thank you ❤️
This was amazing and therapeutic. I don’t see how anyone can dislike
Thank you! I appreciate your comment. There will always be people who disagree and dislike anything and everything. I am glad you enjoyed the video! 🤗❤ And I hope you have a Happy New Year! Xoxoxo
I really love how you antiqued each piece even more. I saved this video to watch over and over again, because I have picked up some old world items and I've never used chalk paint, etc. So cool!!
Deborah I love what you do! I watched you makeover video and have started using the technique to create the old world decor. I am a retired nurse and love decorating. I haven't stopped incorporating your talents! Thank you so much! You have a fabulous day!
I love the large wall art, scroll covered Urn & that gorgeous light fitting. Pity our thrift stores don’t have beautiful items like you found
Just subbed! I thought I was in a relaxing spa watching the world become just a little more beautiful.
Thank you for the time and effort you put into creating lovely pieces and then sharing it with us.
Love your painting techniques, but I was screeeaming at my computer, *"Noooo! DON'T paint the green oooone!!!"*
I passed out but I'm okay now lol.
That green was sooooo lovely as is.
Me too! I love the rich and warm browns!!! But like the finished look too.
And that green was gorgeous!!!!!
@@TT-de7wb yes that green was gorgeous.
Yes, I agree with you Mysty Queen. The green was so beautiful, otherwise I thought the makeovers were really lovely.
Me too! It was gorgeous!
Great job on the owls
Everything looks beautiful. Great job.
You look like a young Jacklyn Smith on Charlie's Angels from years ago.
Aw, thank you Verita! 🤗😘 Xoxoxo
This video was in my recommended. I just wanted to say that you are beautiful! You resemble a young Jacklyn Smith, especially with that Southern elegance!
Wow, thank you so much! That is quite the compliment. I've always loved her. ❤ Have a wonderful weekend! Xoxoxo
I love Country French design. It just has a homey welcome feel to it.
All so lovely ❣
Ahh, cool painting technique! But that green vase being painted really bothered me for some reason...
bothered me too!
But I love her technique of painting.
I totally agree. There was just something about that vase. I wouldn't have changed it, but to each his own.
The final result of the green vase is so beautiful. Now can go in a modern home. The green was so dated. Great projects!
I like all you found and I happen to like it more with the original colors,I just tweak here and there but keep as original as possible especially animal figurines, and that gorgeous wall hanging and the green vase.,as I am not into the farmhouse all white craze but to each its own.
Wasn't it a sad thing to see her ruin such things of beauty?
Garden Joy Your screen name is either a misnomer or the jokes on you: You’re filled with as much “joy” as a fecally impacted dead person.
@@tundrawomansays5067 Just because I enjoy gardening and other things of beauty, doesn't mean I can't have a sense of loss when seeing something beautiful destroyed. You don't inspire much yourself. Guess the Tundra is dry.
Wowsers girl!!! You could set a fire without a match🤗
I really loved the vase when you had the beige color before the blue, which turned out really beautiful.
Wowwww!!! Every piece you updated now looks so high-end! Absolutely amazing to see the before and after of each. The dramatic change in the owls is truly astonishing! After painting, they look so lifelike, I could hardly believe my eyes! Lol! Really enjoyed this teaching technique - thanks so much for sharing, showing us how:) Many hugs to you, Sweetie pie.. . . Be blessed this day!
Hello Susan! Wow, thank you so much! I love owls and I think they look so much better now! I have been walking around my house looking at everything and debating on whether to paint it or not. Literally, EVERYTHING. 😂 Thanks again and I hope your weekend is amazing and relaxing as well. 🧡 Xoxoxo
I feel the same about the pieces...Such a dramatic yet upscale change...I so luv thrifting a little bit toooo much myself...I luv transformations, can change a whole look!..
Holy cow you are an amazing artist! Everything you touch turns out amazing! Can you use the same technique on a piece of furniture?
Hi Julie! Thank you so much! Yes, I can definitely do that in a future video. I will also list the exact paint colors in the next one since there was confusion on this one. 😉👍🏻 I'm not sure exactly when I will do that project, so please subscribe and select "all" notifications or just check back with me. Thanks again! ❤ Xoxoxo
I have a vintage store and am always upcycling thrifted finds for resale. I will be trying your paint technique. Love trying something new and getting positive reactions from my customers. Thank you!
Omg I already want the soup terrene.
I would have left the green lamp alone. Beautiful as it was.
I love how these pieces turned out. I have to try this technique on some old ceramic pieces I have. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi Carla! I'm so glad you like this finish! I am always drooling over chippy, French decor on Pinterest. I'm trying to get the look for less money. Hope you and your family are well. 🤗🧡🦉🐓 Xoxoxo
love this video thank you for sharing!!!
Beautiful Cat. When you started I was skeptical...but you know what you're doing. Everything looked great.
I wanted to love this alas the end result looked more like old concrete than French country. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess. Less would have been more. But kudos for upcycling and having fun making them to suit your taste ✌💕
True but it gives me lots of ideas.
They all look nice. My only issue is they are all the same color now. I think it would be cool if some range from painted dark, medium, to light. They would all still harmonize with each other.
Thank you! I love your idea. A very good point! Most likely, these items won't ever be in the same room and the same time or near each other in a display. I have been thinking about changing a couple of them again though. Lol. I'm never satisfied. 😂 Best wishes to you for a happy 2020! Xoxoxo ❄❤❄
Wow!! I’m in love!
Girl you are serious with your painting techniques. What a gift
I think people do not understand the idea of utilizing an unappreciated piece to make it something beautiful. Some people think, well that piece was nice on its own. The original owner did not think it was something to keep. This gave it a chance to become something new by someone with vision and a little bit of creative work. Whether you dislike something old becoming something different, at least it did not go into a land fill. The expensive prices the thrift stores charge allow me to believe they are not distributing money for better causes, as I don't see the results in my community for the better. I still shop these places, but I take them for what they are, and do not allow their greed and lack of seeing anything good in my community from discouraging me from seeking a few needed items. When they ask to round off to the next dollar, I say no. They make a lot of money, and some of what they have is donated or come from land fills, so I take it for what it is. I do not see the results of such charities, so until they show me that, I will not feel such stores are for the less fortunate on a very huge basis. I look at this aspect in all charities, as it can be a money-making business that does not consider the intention of the people who give to it.
OMG Too long to read.
You ruined those owls!
@@clairehennessy463 Reading is thinking.
Everything was beautiful. But can’t understand why your not on the front cover of vogue ... 🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️. Stunningly beautiful

I have 2 of those old oval mirrors with the 'filigree' scroll work as the frame. I will try some of the techniques that you have shown here. Thank you sooo much for sharing your beautiful work for all of us to see xx
I go thrifting all the time....now my eye will be searching for finds like these....love this look and buy things for my home like this...can’t wait to try it for myself! Thank you for sharing😊
Makes one wonder how something so ugly can be so pretty. Wonderful up cycles.
I love the paint color and the new looks. But I must say that some of the second hand pieces were delightfully vintage and IMHO, would of been simply perfect left as is (i.e the adorable pair of roosters!).
Cat Bee I thought that of the big Urn with the scroll type accents & there were a few times when I thought “stop”! But they still turned out ok 😊
Agreed! The roosters were not an improvement! :-(
Wow! What great transformations! I had a decorative painting business (my specialty was walls and ceilings in homes, restaurants and offices) many years ago so I still go to my happy place whenever it's about painting. I had pigments and made my own paint colors. Chalk paint emerged well after I was no longer in the painting biz. I just scored a pair of large cream French Provincial Candlestick table lamps with new drum shades for $10! I've been contemplating how to transform them. I was going to go with an actual rusted finish (from Modern Masters) but after watching your video, I'm going to go with your colors and technique. Thanks for sharing and for the inspiration!
Thank you Bonnie! Wow, that sounds like an amazing score for $10!!! Please end me a before and after photo on my Instagram account, also The Painted South. I love seeing transformations. ❤ Painting is definitely my favorite pastime. (And going to the gym, but they are all closed right now.) Stay safe and healthy! Xoxoxo
Omg ~ Now I will be painting anything and everything in my house. :D
