PC Hollis is organising a blood bank at the station, and Sgt. Peters is not happy. WPC Martella is sent to assist at an armed robbery, but hits a radio black spot.
This episode is what's called a "bottle episode": an episode that is produced cheaply and restricted in scope to use as few regular cast members, effects and locations as possible. Bottle episodes are also used for dramatic effect, with the limited setting and cast allowing for a slower pace and deeper exploration of character traits and motives.

Jack, thanks for the geographic location, I always like to know which area's in The Smoke that the Bill was filmed. Pretty sure that a lot of the places have been demolished. Keep us posted, be well and stay safe 💯🇬🇧🎥👍
I love this episode, not just because i have fancied Viv since i was 8 (i'm 42 lol) but i love Alec too, not to mention Derek who has a similar sense of humour to me, dry and scathing so at times you aren't sure if he is being serious or joking, obviously i can tell lol. Also, i suppose the clue is in the title, but i think this is the most we see of the CAD room in a single episode, which i like it creates a more claustrophobic atmosphere, not helped much by Ted lol.
Good episode but slight error. Presumably it’s supposed to be set when it airs (January) Conway says ‘it’s starting to get dark out there.’ A few minutes earlier the clock had shown 19:39. It would’ve been dark for ages. It gets dark for about half 5 in London in January.
Some base station set ups have a console that allows multiple radios to be connected to it and set to different channels. The console allows for "Mute", "Receive Only" and "Transmit/Receive". One microphone can transmit over multiple channels
The Ted Roach/Alec Peters exchange was brilliant!! Two of the bills best characters!!
I agree, both are in my top 20 characters.
"When I cut myself it's not mango chutney that comes out" lol!

That Reg Hollis is a Major League TRIP, he doesn't know what to say out of his mouth.💯🇬🇧🎥. Great upload by the way 👍
Yes thank you for all the uploads. Great channel 👍🏻
Thanks for loading these up I haven't seen these episodes for 20 years LEGEND!
14:11 when Conway says “It’s getting dark out there” and the look on his face is quite haunting which shows how serious the situation is
There was an good episode of Dragnet like this. Friday and his partner in the radio room, listening to a police chase involving a murderer.
The breaking bad one with the fly...
for an episode that takes place mostly in the CAD room with action taking place off camera, its not a bad episode
It’s like Gogglebox meets The Bill, and the scripting is very good. CAD room is a very specific type of dialogue and they have got it spot on.
agreed, this era of the bill was more believable, focused more on police work than their personal lives

Great episode. Can be like this now even with all the technology!
They still use the PR's and Mobiles wouldn't work underground it's still possible

When The Bill moved station sets later this year (1990), did they take this CAD room with them? It's identical to the one at the new station.
Storywise,It's identical because it would have been a Home Office approved design.
Production wise,yes, because of costs
How they talking on 2 channels at once?

Peter's the wimp is never happy.
Who is Peter?
I think he’s saying Alec Peters is a wimp.
In another episode, I heard it referenced that he's a bit more accepting of PACE whilst Bob and Tom bemoan it a little more
