I've been shuffling for almost 4 years now, and I've been dancing in general for less than that (although I took 3 years of hip-hop classes when I was like 10). The majority of it comes with being interested in body mechanics, mimicry, and experimentation of movement. I'm pretty much always aware of what my body is doing at feeling at any point in time and that helps me a lot. I also spend a lot of time thinking about this stuff (especially when I'm making a tutorial video haha). It's fun to me.
Olivier has some of the most creative footwork out there. Unfortunately he deleted his channel so I couldn't get my favourite clip of his, but I find him quite captivating.
No wonder your such a good dancer, seeing you move this way inspires me to train harder and develop new moves, especially for my upper body which is pretty dull, I believe your tutorial videos will be very useful for me, great videos, thanks for posting them!
Well thank you very much. If you want more of me talking I have a few vlogs on this channel, and they're all pretty long so you'll have lots to listen to, haha.
a good exercise to train your sense of rhythm to listen to techno musik or something with 130 bpm and to make every step similar to the beat. worked fine for me and now walking to school is way more fun :D
Godlike. I've been at this for a while, like 4 or so years and this is amazing. I usually don't watch tutorial video's anymore because I can't really learn anymore towards my style of shuffling..Thank you for this video, now maybe I can find love in shuffling again now that so many more doors have opened again!
I'm curious as to where you saw me heel flicking. If you mean during the 2nd kind of RM I was demonstrating I can kinda see it, but it's more that I'm making the triangle of movement in RM taller to create the effect that style has. Otherwise I don't know where you see that.
Really informative man, thanks for posting! One question, can you name all the options you know for the names like; Pivoting/foot scooting/jumping? I feel like I just only pivot my feet from toes to balls of my feet, and I need something to add to my style (I'm pretty new at it, but can do the running man, t-step, and basic stuff.) If I danced to the Malaysian shuffle with hard music, is there some pivot moves that are better? Thanks for your time.
The heel-toe shift is the essence of t-step, and is therefore the essence of shuffling. Finding new ways to use that motion is what makes every style unique. How you use the basic moves are what make your shuffle style creative and interesting. Keep looking at other dancers' footwork and see if anything inspires you!
I see your point, but to say that I shouldn't be teaching anyone because the music is off-sync is quite a bit like saying that someone shouldn't be a writer because they've made a few typos. Sure it isn't great but that shouldn't disqualify them from doing what they do. I was rushed in editing this, so mistakes were made. That's on me. However, that does not mean anything more than what it is. Don't take one small mistake and turn it into a reason not to try. That's counter-productive.
What I mean is that being off-beat with a video in which the music is edited over the video on beat is far more complicated than playing the original audio through the video, but allows for people to hear the song I'm listening to. I made efforts to edit the clips on beat but I didn't care that much in this one because that's not what this video's about. This video isn't about teaching people to edit. It's about teaching people to shuffle. They aren't related, therefore your point is invalid.
Loads of people have basic tutorials out there, so I don't really feel the need to cover that. Check out BigMilan's tutorials though, they're kinda the go-to for basic stuff.
You seem to know a lot about shuffle and various other dances, I am just curious, but for how long have you been dancing in general? and by the way i love your style.
The first one with a own and insane style. Dude I shuffle for 7 years now and would wish we could dance together. :D I have to make a shufflevideo too. ^^
That track was part of the compilation I used for a source, so you can check there. It might've just been sped up though [Shufflin.net]The 1st Official Shufflin.net Compilation!
Sorry, but I didn't choreograph it. I wouldn't be able to teach this to you any more than you could yourself. Besides, shuffling is mostly a freestyle dance, so dance how you want and don't get too caught in how others do. Hopefully I didn't disappoint too much, haha.
yea i keep trying to do what you were saying but i still cant seem to fully get it let me know if you decide to make a separate video or know of any videos
there are still many easy ways to sync it properly which you seem not to know.;) maybe it's true that this not necessery for your textual message. but to be taken seriously as teacher you still have to care about your form. that has nothing to do with teaching the form itself.
It's fine to take influences from other things, but don't do the actual shuffle moves wrong. That defeats the purpose of it. After seeing a video of that dance I can say I saw none of the foot scooting I talked about in this video. So I'm not really sure where you're getting this from.
Hey Zannimask, I have a question. I'm trying to shuffle like HSA Rocky but he shuffles so fast it seems like he doesn't even shuffle at all. It seems like he's not doing beat, hop, beat but just beat, beat. I thought maybe you can provide me with tips on how to shuffle so fast.
Tip 1. Don't shuffle like anyone but yourself. Dance is an art form, and art is expressionism. Copying someone else's art is not the point of art. Tip 2. What you're describing is called one-stepping, and it's the incorrect version of the running man. Tip 3. Rocky is still doing the running man right, but because it's fast and the videos are using old cameras with lots of effects it's hard to tell sometimes. Tip 4. Nothing will get you shuffling fast except for practice. Don't take short-cuts.
Rocky does the X running man that is why he looks pro. along with the wavy hand movement combined with a mini head bang. My style is similar to his that's how i know! :)
Angel Boudeaux Those are all small things that can be used for various effects. I tend to give much broader tips so people can do things their own way.
JoshH Speed is not your friend at that point. Dance to slow music so you can do it comfortably for a long time. Drill both the basic moves until you can do them without thinking and work your way to higher speeds. Then work on transitions from one move to the other. After that you can work on the stuff I discuss in the video.
JoshH Well the best way to find out is to make videos and send them my way. I'll give whatever tips I can. Just wait until you've been doing it for at least 1.5 months though.
I don't believe that. Everyone shuffles their own style, and there are different RMs and Tsteps that they can incorporate if they so wish. Having genres of styles takes away from the fact that Melbourne Shuffle is a self-expressive dance, not a regional style-based dance. There are honestly too many people who defy genre/do not affiliate with any genre for the "styles" argument to be valid anymore.
"Foot Scooting" is better than T-step, because ITS ALL ABOUT SLIDES in HARDSTYLE. That's why the pros like Rocky, Mikki. and Sacco use it. T-step is better for Electro music or a slower type of music. I know both so I use ither one. AND HARDSTYLE IS BOUT SHUFFLE TO EXPRESS NOT TO IMPRESS. So We let the beat guide us. Not follow proper techniques like you say -___-
I'm gonna tackle this real quick. All dance is expressionism but it is within the confines of specific techniques. That's how we have people dancing poorly and why it takes practice and training to get good. Literally every single skill requires that you learn the basics first. You can't do quadratic equations without knowing addition, you can't do advanced shuffling without knowing the running man and t-step. Foot-scooting is not part of the Melbourne Shuffle. It is doing the t-step incorrectly. Sacco and T1M did foot scooting but other shufflers from the 2007 era, and many hardstlye shufflers today, do not. They do it right and they do it to hardstyle, which is difficult and shows their skill. Throwing out "Express not Impress" does not matter in this context. Letting the song guide you is the essence of every dance, and with the technique that skilled dancers require. Dance to express to the world and to impress yourself, and impress others! If you can dance show people what you can do and they'll like it! Impressing people is a positive thing, it makes you feel good. It's why we make videos of the stuff. We want people to see us, and we want people to like it. It's a normal human feeling and like all other feelings if you don't let it go to your head it's perfectly healthy. Also, 2007 was seven years ago. As with everything on the planet shuffling has changed since then. So not only are you wrong but you're out of date in the first place. If shuffling to hardstyle is all about slides as you say then use the technique I showed that allows for more lateral movement. I literally gave you the information you need to keep moving side to side while doing the t-step. There is no reason to use foot-scooting. You say you can t-step to hardstyle, do it. If you can't, practice. Prove to yourself you're good enough to do it. Don't cheat. Just dance.
I kinda feel like leaving y'all hanging for a while longer haha. I'll put the songlist in at some point though.
I've been shuffling for almost 4 years now, and I've been dancing in general for less than that (although I took 3 years of hip-hop classes when I was like 10). One of my fave tutorials by far. Keep up the shuffling bro!
PLEASE make more of these tutorials. This is so awesome and helps so much! :)
No wonder your such a good dancer, seeing you move this way inspires me to train harder and develop new moves, especially for my upper body which is pretty dull, I believe your tutorial videos will be very useful for me, great videos, thanks for posting them!
This is still as awesome as when you first uploaded it. Excellent work :)
Well thank you very much. If you want more of me talking I have a few vlogs on this channel, and they're all pretty long so you'll have lots to listen to, haha.
Omg dude! This was literally the best shuffle-tutorial i have ever watched! Great job men! Totally liked it!
You are amazing! this is the most comprehensive video that finally helped me advance my moves! :)

Dude SICK !!!!!! Your tutorials have helped me soo much :D Thanks again and keep em comin.

Best tutorial out there.
Very very nice job man.

Well Toronto is Toronto, and that's a very small space... If you recognize it that's pretty impressive haha.

'Or your fall over and hurt yourself' .. Yass thats me 😂😂
Did I not make myself clear?
Like... did you actually not get what I was saying there?
Everything is wrong with foot scooting.

Very attractive background 😂
Awesome vid man! I'm getting back into shuffling and I'm very rusty..was wondering if you could make a basic tutorial?
Loads of people have basic tutorials out there, so I don't really feel the need to cover that. Check out BigMilan's tutorials though, they're kinda the go-to for basic stuff.
Awesome and inspiring tutorial man! From s fellow shuffler for 12 years!
you're the man! this is so helpful!
Awesome video!! Keep it going man
I'm not entirely sure where that logic comes in at all with this video.
Do you know how making videos with music? If you do your answer is in there.
Did I not make myself clear?
Everything is wrong with foot scooting.
there are many easy ways to sync dance to beat properly if you mean that?!
14:39 subbed at this exact moment , more of this please :P
You seem to know a lot about shuffle and various other dances, I am just curious, but for how long have you been dancing in general? and by the way i love your style.
Different styles require different running man's and tsteps.
Australian, Russian, Brazilian, Malaysian, californian, mainstream
Your shuffle is starting to remind of Oliver Zanni haha
im very influenced by the southern boot scoot boogie tho
The first one with a own and insane style. Dude I shuffle for 7 years now and would wish we could dance together. :D I have to make a shufflevideo too. ^^
One of my friends downloaded all of his videos. xD So if you want it lemme know.
Very nice man!! You helped me so much at my skills :D
Or is it a different version ? it sounds sped up ? if it is a different version could you tell me which one it is ? the song plays @ 5:41
That track was part of the compilation I used for a source, so you can check there. It might've just been sped up though [Shufflin.net]The 1st Official Shufflin.net Compilation!
zannimask ok man thx for your quick response !
YES PLEASE.
Could you do a tutorial on the first routine at the start of the video? Thanks
Sorry, but I didn't choreograph it. I wouldn't be able to teach this to you any more than you could yourself. Besides, shuffling is mostly a freestyle dance, so dance how you want and don't get too caught in how others do. Hopefully I didn't disappoint too much, haha.

Song at 1:11?
Unfortunately it was used in a compilation (that can be found in the description) and it's the one track I don't know on this video. Sorry!
zannimask Thanks brah. I'll be listening to a few techno trances for a while. I'll let you know if I find it.
illilli I don't know if you already discovered that song, but it should be Afgin - From The Heart. :)
The Facc :O Thank you! How was unexpected.
how long would it take to be just average at shuffling if your a fast learner?
That depends entirely on you.
well i literally learnt running man in about 1 hour but cant seem to get fast at it?

Hmm Cool Melbourne! :)
Nice style ! :) Josy Friend! haha :)
What hate?
ayy this shit lit good job
Thank you very much)))
Haha, your awesome dude! I can't dance like that, not yet anyways :p lol
Yogi Bear can shuffle!
