The word “Aggressive” is not toxic . The word itself is not toxic. Aggressive is a state or attitude, the “act” is what is toxic. A man can be aggressive to protect, is that toxic? A man can be aggressive to harm, that is toxic. The act of “harming” is toxic.
We were aggressive when we fought against apartheid, were we toxic to the whites then? No, because our “Act” was protecting our rights. Apartheid was aggressive, its “act” was causing harm, so that was toxic. Basically that was toxic masculinity.
To conclude, masculinity is a state of mind. Masculinity is not toxic, but we make it toxic. Masculinity is selfless, but we managed to find hack into it, to use it to our benefit. Removing the “less” from “selfless”, to focus on “self”.

    • @bluchill

Nicely said and I would like to add that natural aggressive energy is not toxic, a plant growing is aggressive energy and a baby/youngling being born is definitely aggressive energy.
As with swear words human being give meaning to words - "curse"/swear words themselves are just "meaningless"/neutral words that carry the information - our understanding is what designates the meaning. Even in witchcraft terms, the energy of the person saying the words designate their intent.

BTW, Dr Umar, as a child psychologist, advised parents to reject the diagnosis of kids. He says, at least as far as in the USA, schools are funded more for these kids who have been diagnosed with ADHD etc. Schools claim money that they are supposed to use to support these kids and they end up not using it for the intended purpose.
But generally he says these kids mostly are misdiagnosed and he states the steps that parents should take in assisting their kids. It requires mostly attention and support on the part of the parents in conjunction with the parents. We are over medicating kids unnecessarily so.

The fact that we struggle as a society to define things like masculine and feminine is the biggest concern. Language entropy. Very soon we won't be able to have conversations and come to common understanding because we can't agree on definitions.
How is toxic masculinity different from toxic femininity? There's no answer to this question that everyone would agree with.

  • @blackrystalX-i3t
    @blackrystalX-i3t 2 місяці тому +1

I agree with ursula, these general traits that society has created, have caused so much issues. That's why some men who don't fit the "so called" criterion for being "a man" have their sexuality questioned and try to prove their masculinity and end up harming themselves and others or end up suffering from depression etc. I am a woman that doesn't have a majority of these "so-called " female traits, does this mean I am a man? I have been told countless times a woman does this, a woman does that, but that just isn't who I am . There are women who are not innately nurturing or kind and can be aggressive and that doesn't mean they are masculine. Cause that would mean that we are saying that any "negative" trait in a woman has is masculine, so in essence we are saying being a man is bad? That's why we have that situation where Penuel asked so if a woman kills, or is a bully is it toxic femininity or toxic masculinity? We must just stop calling behavior based on gender. Aggression is aggression and that is it, it has no gender, kindness is kindness its not just a female trait....

Our attention span may be dropping by the day because of how the attention economy has evolved (fueled by the advancement of technology and easy accessibility thereof). It may seem odd but I seek out for long term content.
I liked Ursula and Penson's long winded answers and not wanting to conclude and box things and fast track them for the sake of moving on because that's what we normally do in our social settings with friends around a braai or a table - we go back and forth on a topic until we exhaust it, and leave it still not having concluded it. I like the interruptions inbetween and the clown moments by Penson (this is not me saying I like yall talking over each other). This is just the nature of conversations.
There are tons of short form content online and if I can't sit for more than an hour on the same topic, there's someone who will cater to me online somewhere. But maybe long form content is not what you’re trying to do Penuel? Maybe speak on it so you align us to what you’re trying to achieve so we’re on the same page?
When I saw that this episode was 1H40 minutes, I was so happy and looked forward to wrapping up my evening with it. Topic was engaging, thought provoking and there's moments of humor and y’all respected each other throughout, so I can sit for 3 hours on this. But tell me to watch someone eating chips on Big Brother, you'd lose me in 5 minutes.
Penuel, maybe limit the number of topics you want to cover to two or three, especially when you have more than one guest (and considering that you allow your crew BTS to jump in) so that 1. the topics can be stretched as far as they can go and 2. so you don't dissapoint your expectations for wanting to cover 5 topics in an hour.

No disrespect to uSis Ursula but she didn't make much sense honestly. Instead of taking offense, I hope she listens to herself again and reflects on what she said vs what she was trying to say, and if it is truly valid. The root of inarticulacy is ignorance. She ran away from simply listing traits she would consider masculine or feminine but still wanted to talk about masculinity, Kanjani? She had to run to Google kanti articles on Google have their own agendas which she couldn't really incorporate into her argument.
For me, she sounded like most females today who opt to be politically correct, with recycled opinions, instead of having critical and real conversations. S/O to Penuel for trying to help her out and be neutral as a host, but uSisi should articulate herself better next time, or stay out of the conversation. 45+ mins were spent going around in circles, Penson trying to understand her. Clearer conclusions could've been reached in that time.

What is so hard about owning yourself, being disciplined and regulating yourself as a human being? By all means be male/ female- learn to code switch, read the room and make sure when society is concerned, that you’re not the predator, threat or nuisance. Soft skills are what people often confuse with feminine traits. There’s a spectrum of intellect that largely was optional for men, we need to be dynamic.

Hi all, thanks for the dope conversations.
Toxic femininity is what many people think of as “stereotypical femininity"
A term that describes a rigid and repressive definition of womanhood that can include:
-Adherence to gender roles: Restricting women to being passive, submissive, and gentle
-Social pressure: Pressuring women to be consistently pleasant, accommodating, and compliant
-Shaming: Discouraging women and others from expressing their emotions

If i should have any reason ever to hate listening to this podcast, it would only be because you guys always interrupt each other, you talk over each other. One of the most annoying things when i try to engage and take in what you guys say. I count only a few times when one of you allows the other to finish their point or sentences. any way, its coming from a good place

Lol Penson, how would you feel about your woman feeling more comfortable with a male doctor touching her down there?

      Never happening!
There are too many quality female doctors out there!
      Never a male doctor!

lol we wish most terminal treatments weren’t invasive or feel like violations. That part of female urologists sounds super objectifying 🤦🏽‍♀️

I must say these conversations have potential but when Penuel has these conversations the discussion can be unruly and eventually they end up not discussing the important issues with the depth that this platform commands. I've seen this unrulyness especially gets worse when his brother is on. It leaves the viewer with that cliff hanger feeling, and not in a good way either. It's disappointing but maybe I should just skip on these conversations lest they diminish my appitite for the channel.

Actually, maybe disregard this criticism. I've gone through some of the comments and it seems people genuinely enjoyed the talk. It must be that I prefer more structured and perhaps formal discussions over casual ones characterized by frequent interruptions. So I'll stick to listening to those solo vids you make as well as the panel discussions you've recently been part of on other platforms and perhaps the interviews as those tend to be more structured.

Also women generally don’t go around putting things up their butts. 😂 just say there’s an over prioritization of maintaining so called masculinity over health. Sometimes just get what you need to get done, done. Regardless of comfort or reputation- same mechanisms preventing people from just doing the right thing
