What is the card trick you do before socks?

Great question. I force the 8 of hearts then try to read their mind and name the card. I guess it is black, a spade and a face card. It is clear I screwed up but move on into Socks then after revealing the socks there is “a rock in my shoe” so I take if off and BAM 8
