Not providing them with water or a space to cool off with regular intervals is cruel and totally unnecessary. Those bearskin hats should be reserved for the winter. More than once I had tears rolling down my cheeks from the pain. Little things you don’t think about, but every single guard on these parades is uncomfortable at best. This consisted of the Grenadier Guards, Coldstream Guards, Irish Guards and Welsh Guards. It's called fainting to attention. There's a certain order to it, if footguards feel like they are to pass out, they collapse forward if they're in a unit of one rank. If its two ranks and you're in the rear, you collapse backwards. This is the reason why guardsmen form up in two ranks during Trooping the Colour.
Mind you, as far as I'm aware it's exceptional for the household division only. During my dad's time in the RAF, he certainly would've gotten reprimanded or yelled at by his OC, as No.1's aren't necessarily hot to be in, even on a hot day. If a day was too hot, they wouldn't have done any foot drill of any sort for safety concerns.

"It's not that you're standing too long".... I beg to differ.
Wiggle the toes inside your boots/shoes, to keep circulation going. Try to relax the knees---without any movement... It works. Usually. But!!!
VERY long ceremonies performed in bitter cold ("order arms" in slow motion because your arms/fingers/body are frozen. Everyone) or excessive heat, can get to the best of us.
Being well - hydrated helps too. The susceptibility part: you're probably right. My daughter had some issues when she was in the Navy. But, then, she's a redhead. They always faint.

I remember being at a meeting in work one summer standing in a group listening and someone passed out. He was caught before he hit the floor by 3 or so others and cooling supplies and first aid rushed for and not a hint of any meeting being carried on and it make me glad to know if it happened to me I wouldn’t be surrounded in guys with daft hats and red coats who pretend they didn’t see me because they are afraid they will get shouted at when they get back to barracks.

I was in marching band my freshman year of high school. In order to participate you have to attend a band camp during the summer where you learn marching and formation. It was like being in the military and the band director made members of the band stand at attention for extended periods of time out in the hot sun. It was awful. But the main thing I learned is as you stand in one place sweating your ass off in a uniform that weighs 5 lbs holding an instrument to your lips, you cannot lock your knees or you will faint within minutes.
