      It's wrong to profit from this information that travelers and the poor on social security that live full time in RV. As is we are being forced out of our rv's here in Florida unless you pay for storage or resort. We can't afford that when we live on $750/month. Please stop ruining it for the true nomads, and the poor.

    YOU should not put your slide outs out when sleeping at Walmart or Cracker Barrel type of places. I am told that Cracker Barrel is going to stop us from stopping if people keep puitting their slides out.

    • @jam471975
      @jam471975 3 роки тому +17

      You should not put out slides that you don't need to... There are many RVs which you need to put a slide out, at least partially, in order to get into the bedroom and/or the fridge. I'm sure Cracker Barrel understands this but when there are so many people putting more slides out than they need to it ruins it for everybody.

    • @2katkitty

      We can't get to our bed without pulling the slide out. Our kitchen counter is in the way and the only way in or out would be to crawl over the counter.

    • @Databyter
      @Databyter 3 роки тому +6

      He only partially opened the slide on the road side. Maybe 12 inches. The other side was not in a lane or trafficed area, and was also not visible from the store. The store is worried about space blocking and collision liability, so the way he was parked would not be an issue. I thought it was very considerate, and showed that he understood that he should keep slides at a minimum. The blind side against the remote grassy area, was just icing on the cake, and you cannot depend on that. Databyter

    Our taxes pay for all of the roads in the US. We should be allowed to stay overnight in rest areas. We paid for them! Another point is highway safety. If you are driving and need sleep wouldn’t it be safer for everyone else if we pulled into a “rest area” and, oh I don’t know, RESTED?

      People abusing the privilege thinking they are entitled to do whatever they want have and are ruining it for all of us. That includes people who feel the need to have HUGE RVs that have more sq ft than the apartment I lived in for 21 years. They take up so much space it's ridiculous.

    • @robertslimak3628

      Yes. A privilege, not a right. It seems people today feel entitled and they are causing the privilege to be taken away. Those seem to be the ones than complaining that their "rights" have been taken away. Same with public land being closed down. The amount of trash I see camping on public land disgusts me!

    My wife and I stayed at a Cabela's in Rapid City , SD on Sunday March 31st. They were very friendly , and they even pointed out the most level spots in the parking lot. And if you have a Cabela's credit card they will let you dump your tanks and fill your fresh water for free.
    It was very quiet sleeping at Cabela's and we really enjoyed our stay there. We even did a little shopping while we were there. I needed new boots and Jo-Ann needed a new pocketbook , plus we got a couple small items we needed for the RV there.

      the difference is that there are like 50 regular spots and not too many RV or bus slots. Also he is way in the back away from the store, so it is unlikely that those spots are needed. But most of all those are MARKED spots, the regular parking spots are not. Marked spots means the management wants a specified vehicle there. The other spots to not say cars only. Databyter

      There aren't always enough spaces for large vehicles. The Walmart in Ormond Beach FL has designated tractor-trailer spaces, which were usually full and often had diesel engines running continuously, which is not healthy to breathe, besides the noise. I left those spaces for the tractor-trailers and used 4 spaces to park.

    • @ginalouise1819

      I was thinking how hypocritical too. And also someone may be living in that 'car' which makes it an rv. Right. Or they were just peeved at the rvs/trucks who go into the car side of places and ruin it for car people. Or is it a distance to cb thing. Don't judge others to a higher standard than you judge yourself.

    Thank you, I have lived out of an RV for the last 3 years in the DC/Maryland area and have only been knocked on 3 times , 2 of them were at a Walmart so you are correct. The main areas I stay are carpool parking lots called Park and ride in Maryland and any commercial building that is two stories or higher. This is private property so a cop will not kick you out unless he gets a phone call. Nobody calls because they don’t know if I’m on the first floor or the eighth floor doing business so I have never had a problem, EVER.. Also I have never gotten kicked out of a Home Depot ,Lowe’s , BJs , Costco or Sam’s Club. All these places have been safe for me. It’s always best to leave in the morning I never take a advantage of the situation . Also in Maryland you can stay 18 hours parked on the side of the road. The problem with that is the RV sways when cars go by so I use that only when necessary, at least you know you won’t get knocked on. Thank you ,thank you for your video best of luck

      That is not an option for everyone and WE always arrive when they are closed for the evening. We have a 34 ft RV and tow. We park IN THE BACK, as far away from the front as possible, across the car spaces. We do not use slides, generator, or jacks. We order breakfast online for next morning pick up at 7:30 (earliest they allow since they open at 7). I pick up breakfast and THANK THEM for the opportunity to park here. We eat, walk our dogs and clean up after ourselves and our dogs. We are outta there by 8 am. Just because people are parked across spaces doesn't mean we are a-holes. We let them know who we are and where & why we parked the way we did and then THANK THEM for their hospitality and good food. We also leave a great review for them.

    It isn't so much about the fact that there are less people there than at Walmart, as much as it is that there are less "Walmart People" there.
    I've been watching a lot of real life crime shows like, "See No Evil", and the prevailing theme seems to be that the last time many of these people (victims) were seen alive was on a Walmart surveillance video. Something to consider.

      Great advice from some of the replies. Ok for car or van try overnight visitor parking. This can be hit and miss depending on apt. buildings policies or security. Next 24hr factories, I can blend in with my local Lear (seating) factory. Also retirement community pkng lots or visitor parking. I don't think we have Cracker Barrel in Canada but I have seen RVs still in Wal Mart. Also park in large strip malls with generic parking, so you don't really seem to be connected to one particular store. Doing this in Canada I'm somewhat apprehensive. Doing it in U.S I'm out and out scared.

    We truck drivers say the same thing about RV’s being parked in truckstops.... “That’s just great an RV taking a truck parking place”.
    We truck drivers aren’t on vacation and need those truckstop parking places to do our mandatory breaks. Folks in RV’s don’t seem to care or just think only of themselves. We never hear them complain about noise or fumes when they park there either.

    • @harryhoudini3656
      @harryhoudini3656 5 років тому

      @forest girl
      You are absolutely right, truckstops have RV spaces but if you look closely they are not in the truck parking area. They get their very own area. Now let’s look at another perspective. People buy RV’s for camping so why would they think a truckstop is a campground ? If you take the time to plan your trip you can make it to a campground then camp till cows come home. How often do you park next to a 18 wheeler in a campground?

    • @harryhoudini3656
      @harryhoudini3656 5 років тому

      Forest Girl
      Why would we stay in a hotel? Truckstops have what we need. We do this because it’s our job. RVing is not a job. Sure some people work from the RV but most do it for the fun and adventure without any regard for the problems they actually add to. People in RVs don’t realize there is a parking problem {shortage} for trucks and apparently they don’t care. I saw an RV slide out get crushed because it was in the parking spot next to the RV. I personally had my mirror crushed by someone backing in an RV beside me. I was asleep on my 10 hr break. It woke me up and the owners first words “Oh I didn’t do that”. His own wife told him to stop lying. You want to park in a truckstop then park in the designated RV spots not in the truck spots.

    • @harryhoudini3656
      @harryhoudini3656 5 років тому +1

      Forest Girl
      I hope I am not coming across as mean, hateful and uncaring. That’s not my intention. That being said, here is some advice, parking at Cracker Barrel isn’t really possible for 18 wheelers. Walmart’s are starting to tell us no parking. Now, the local government in cities and towns are passing ordinances making it illegal to park at businesses overnight. As an RVer you should also check to make sure it’s ok to park because those ordinances may affect you. They can carry hefty fines.
      Truck drivers are affected by local, state and federal laws. When we park, if the local police knock on the door we don’t have to answer. They cannot make us come out of the bunk area. You on the other hand have to come out. It’s a federal crime to interrupt a truck drivers 10 hr break. However, the downside for us is our fines are much higher than you will ever get. Here’s an example; when we were on paper logs, if we made a mistake, just one could cost us (are you sitting down) $1000.00. If that mistake affected the next 6 days of log pages (you may want to lay down for this) it became a $7000.00 fine. We personally pay that not the company we drive for. Now we are on electronic logs. If we drive over our 11 hr drive time we go into violation. If we get stopped and the state trooper or city police see that we are in violation the fine can be astronomical. Most truck drivers start looking for a place to park 2 hours before the 11th hour. Doing that cost us money cause we can’t drive any further since we have to get off the highway (sometimes repeatedly) to look for a place to park.
      I understand wanting to live on the open road traveling from place to place in an RV. I would really really enjoy it myself. However, I’m not computer savvy enough to work that way, and I’m still too young for retirement. I guess the biggest point I’m trying to make is, people need to consider each other (not saying you don’t) and what their actions will affect. Like the ripple effect of throwing a rock in a pond and you may hit a fish.

    I love your channel but I feel that I do need to point the hypocrisy of something you're doing which is causing grief for everyone in the RV community. You nonchalantly show how you are taking up many single parking places because it's more convenient for you but point out that someone is parking in a Bus/RV spot in a small suv....Yes, that person could have had the decency to park in a regular space just as you could have had the decency to park in a designated RV/Bus space that the company has gone out of their way to provide....And we should NEVER open a slide while in a parking lot regardless of space provided....Just bad form..

    A few are hard to get into.
    Pembroke Pines in South Florida is down a road that is very difficult to navigate a 5er, Large drivable or even a Pull Behind.
    Tallahassee Florida is decent but the parking area is actually the lot of a closed Ramada Inn which may now be occupied. The drive to enter has a hill with a sharp turn. So beware of tail overhang on long TT, 5er, etc.
    Hope this helps

    The last three CBs I tried to spend the night at said no. The RV/bus spaces are for parking to come in and eat. Not to spend the night in.

      We always ask when we come in to order our meal and the CB staff has never said no.

    We don't stay at Cracker Barrel that often. We have encountered Semis parked overnight there but more often than not, there are truck stops near by. Yes, the highway noise is loud. If possible, we will stay at Bass Pro or Cabela's and even have found some with dump stations. Encountered one Cabela's that didn't allow overnight all because an idiot dumped his/her tanks in the parking lot.

    Funniest part of this video is where you highlight the car parked in the RV slot, saying "yeah, it happens" all the while your RV is parked over 4 maybe 5 car designated parking areas. Now that's good comedy

    Another good one night option is Love's Truck Stops. Yea, there are semis of course but they're big enough to find a good stop well away from them, usually.

    I like knowing there is someone in the building all night. They can’t come out but they can call for police or fire if there is an emergency. My last one was on top of a mountain in WV with AWESOME Mountain View. And quiet.

    I try to park AFTER the dinner rush and be out BEFORE the breakfast rush as well.
    If we come in too late for dinner, we make sure to be one of the first in for breakfast
    So to not clog up the parking lot too much. Courtesy goes a very long way.

    Nice to know...I’ve also heard other RVers say the same about CB as long as those privileges aren’t abused by inconsiderate behavior...so far so good 👍🏾

    Love Cracker Barrel. Although, the one night I park there - in Rv space mind you - a refer delivery truck parked next to me at 4 AM. Not so peaceful night after that.
