- Are you looking for a place to retire at 40? Or 50? One of my favorite place to live as an expat is in the Buena Vista Area of Barranquilla Colombia.
If you are retired living on a pension, you will have all the amenities of living in the states, and the cost of living of Colombia. Your plan may be moving to Colombia from the US. I have serval friends moving to Colombia from UK Living in Colombia as an American have the same benefits as if you are a Canadian living in Colombia
The people of Colombia welcome all foreigners Living in Colombia. The cost of living in Colombia in 2022 is serval times cheaper than in the US.
FYI, if they are calling you a Gringo, they do not mean it in a bad way, they call all expats that. It is part of the culture.

Who do you recommend to help find an apartment to buy in Barranquilla
I was in Barranquilla last year for 2 weeks.I stayed in an AirBNB on Calle 50.I don't speak spanish but was able to get around plus I knew a girl that helped me out when she wasn't working.People a came across were very nice.

I love to ask anyone living there if it is safe.
I will take basic precautions such as not wearing expensive Watch or clothes, I will try to blend in with regular Colombians.
Post Covid, things are a tad more sketchy. However, the location you is well kept. Also, the location you will be renting in has very bad escape routes for ladrones, they know this, which keeps their robberies in other areas. but we MUST always be on alert.

What a pity never been in Barranquilla as lived 6 yrs in Bello Antioquia with my colombian wife.
But we are now planning to move there
If you spent most of your time with paisas, it will take some getting used to the accents in Barranquilla. You may not understand them. they speak at light speed and cut the end of words off. with that said, they are soooo nice and kind.
I stay in that hotel directly behind the Sushi spot. I love this area

those restaurants are nice plaza del parque , nice area most of time im there on weekends when in colombia since i traveled alot for work. that nancy cabrera restaurant the food is very good

Money exchange: the best in Barranquilla in Calle 76 with Carrera 48. The best food everywhere, but especially in Buenavista in "Nena Lela"(the best italian food).

Hey Mundo, I'm visiting Barranquilla now and dig your intel on BAQ as there's not much content on this little gem. I stayed at The Movich in Riomar, Barranquilla Plaza in Alto Prado (my favorite area so far) and I'm checking out El Prado Hotel now. How is the feel in Buena Vista compared to Alto Prado? I like the vibe of Alto, food choices and has a gym. If you're free I would love to sit and chat with you.
I love La 72 a lot, that was my home for many many years. If you need your teeth cleaned go to la 72 and walk in front of the dollar store across the street on the second floor is my dentist. Please tell them Roberto Iorio said hello and I miss them a lot. Hotel Prado is historic place you should stay there too just to say you did. I am in Boston for 5 more days refreshing my skill set with Futures trading, forex trading and options trading. I will not be back to Barranquilla for a bit.

I do need some a few implants to tear up the delicious steaks down here. Getting implants in the US and wont be able to have any money left to get steaks lol.

stay in the North side better for tourist , and very safe buena Vista area ,Miramar some of the places that are nice

In Colombia, I have never found correlation in neighborhoods as we do in other countries. Which means, prices will be all scattered without reason. It has always baffled me. It is almost as thought they come up with a price that works for them and not always following the market value.

What is the name of that hotel that you mentioned was the best in buena vista? Another question, where would you suggest a solo traveler stay?
there is an airbnb you can stay at. it is gated community, safe and you can walk everywhere. send me an email and i will send you their info. as for the hotel how much were you looking to spend?
I'm thinking of relocating there after I retire in about 6-12 months. I'll need to do lots of Dental work also, I heard that Colombia has pretty good Dentists, are there good ones in Barranquilla. I want to live by the sea also.
The prices for dental work are impressive.

I do not do the night club scene any more, with that said, you will like the night clubs in this neighborhood a lot.

Barranquilla - Out of months of wandering Colombia(in total), Baranquilla is the only place I encountered a problem. Local cops tried to roll me. Luckily a friend is a lawyer for the country, and once I put her on teh phone the cops said it was a misunderstanding and they were only trying to suggest a place to eat. lol. Nice city otherwise - the new development along the river os fantastic.
Sorry to hear that. I got a shake down in Nicaragua in 1999, it was only 4 dollars. i am a cheapy jajaja and he gave me a ride in his car. so i think it was well balanced after.

Yes, Barranquilla is humid, if you do not like humidity, I would recommend Bogota. I did not have an issue with mosquitos in Barranquilla, but I had a massive problem with them in Cali. However, it know other people that live in different parts of Barranquilla that got dengue.

I am assuming they are fine with guests, since we do not have the craziness that is going on in Medellin, so they are not on high alert for problems having a friend over. They will take a copy of her ID. This is for your safety.
If you stay at this place, you will have everything within walking distance.

I think there are too many robberies in my opinion. I have a lot to say about this. I just do not want to piss off Colombians. I am going to think about it. However, in the location of this video, it is at a minimum.
