It looks cool, gives Festo some PR, and inspires future artists and engineers.

This could b used for indoor advertising, or even just a floating led display

I am certainly no expert but it appears to be a balloon that is full of helium, that pushes itself threw the air by turning itself inside out over and over. And is controlled by an I-phone.
I wonder if Da Vinci would be more impressed with this, or the I-phone?

Lovely bit of engineering, and a much better edit than the first video.
Still: More more more time watching this thing move. I'd like to see more of the mechanism, little motors in the joints, yes? I'd like to HEAR it move, too.

Really awesome. Saw it on the Industrial expo last week. Kinda reminds me to neon genesis :)

Great, it's the Angel Ramiel from Rebuild of Evangelion 1.

    • @CircuitReborn
      @CircuitReborn 7 років тому +1

No ,Ramiel was using Harmonic tuning crystals to create sound vibrations to produce a friction based energy laser by exciting air molecules....
Though what we thought was a laser was actually soundwaves ripping through the air molecules igniting them along its trail, then the part where Daniel melted away a mountain side was the molecules being burned away by the intense frequency....
Kinda like The Flash vibrating his body at high speeds to melt through something...

its filled with helium or some other lighter than air gas ( Guessing its helium though, because its cheap, inert and light) and the airflow created by the 'inversion' makes it move forwards.

It must be pretty tough to adjust the amount of helium inside to "suspend" it midair. This thing is badass, but I doubt it's capable of retaining helium well enough for that for longer than a few hours.
Seems more and less amazing now.

Still too many cuts in this second version ... it really suggests to me the thing doesn't move very fast at all or is incredibly uncontrollable. However, just to show I'm not a total stick-in-the-mud, I have to agree it looks cool.

Where and how can inversion be put to use in industry?
The “Festo Challenge: Principle to Product” is searching this year for creative ideas for the functional application of inversion in industrial environments.
So basically is a bit useless so far... hope they get a use just as creative... looks cool anyhow.

Can the SI be steered? How exactly would that work?
Yes, I understand this has no practical purpose, it's "just" a work of art. I'm essentially demanding that Picasso tell me how he mixed his paints and stretched his canvas.
Don't care. This is engineering art for geeks, and part of that experience is the technical ideas.

It's just like a Final Fantasy mob or something. I can imagine a "Festo casts firaga" written on top of the vid and a big explosion, or some lasers attached to the joints. I really wonder how I'd defeat it with no more than a sword, though.
