An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. It's shocking to think the world is coming to this stage and that people can attack others for not having the same opinion or for wanting to think or ask questions. Yet they won't question things or look at the narrative and speak out if they feel its inaccurate. It's almost like its easier to have an opinion if you have money. But even those with a income or money won't speak out because maybe they are comfortable in their bubble. Some people stay on the fence because their afraid of being cancelled and this cancel culture is not questioned. You had the Alex Jones case plus the raid in Trumps home. Some people won't go there or question anything they want to be in their bubble. The people who put themselves out there should be applauded. Some people who are glued to the box see the stories playing out and they don't see that we are all accountable. I totally agree why can't people argue different points of view. I don't watch the news for years now but where are the stories lately about Afghanistan, Syria , Ethiopia and Pakistan since the lockdowns or the aftermath of the troops being taken out of Afghanistan. The media is so crucial to how the world is being effected regardless of whether we watch anything at all and it effects how people see things. We will still hear the points of view or be navigated no matter what towards the negativity bias. We need to be aware of how our energy effects everything. These powers that be are blocking peoples viewpoints. The media created a narrative for years but the structures in place need to come down but I also believe there's duality in the media as well light and dark and there must be some people trying to get the truth out and seek the truth but are blocked. It's sad we need awareness from these places for sonw it's their only place and we seek out the truth but we need to research as well. Not everyone is at that level yet. We need a new blank canvas with how we get information.Omg the hatred and darkness going through the media the darkness needs to be cancelled and deleted especially with the way that people react to it. We all need more education. All of a sudden people are being rejected and cancelled including jk Rowling not being able to go to the Harry Potter reunion. I thought that was so sad. Where is the balance and commonsense anymore? If we don't have freedom of speech we have nothing. Yet we still have the problems of accountability in the media. Trump was meant to have incited certain things but the media also incites lies and low energy. The woman in Salman Rushdies life may also be his new wife who is I think is a lawyer. So sad the aggression that is there now.I was reading the comments about Anne Heche and the anger was just horrible given that she needed help and people were saying such horrible things that she shouldn't be allowed donate her organs. I thought in such a painful time for her family how sad people can just focus on that. I feel words have energy and books create a collective energy that impacts the world. Prayers for Salman and his family. I will light a candle now for him. At least he had the courage of his convictions to speak his truth in very perilous times. We need to stand up for our believes regardless of the ever changing challenges.

What a beautiful tribute to Salman Rushdie, freedom of speech and the power of literature. I am so inspired by your dad asking each person to read a poem. It seems to me that the New Earth energy doesn’t support “official narratives.” All narratives are welcome to be heard, discussed, debated, celebrated, booed, but never suppressed. Prayers for Salman Rushdie 🙏🏻❤️

I so appreciate this video. I said this morning to my husband, after reading an article about a woman in Texas who is trying to ban many library books, that as we grew up hearing of the importance of freedom of speech, it's shocking that people would believe censorship is ok.
I also remember well when the Ayatollah, who said so many horrific things toward women and anyone who didn't conform to his extreme thoughts on Islam, put out this bounty. I also didn't read his books, but I have celebrated Rushdie's courage.
    Thank you for your courage.

Thank you Amanda for another really important video offering Collective Healing. The only book of Salman Rushdie's that I read was Midnight's Children and I urge you all to read it or others of his. It's beautiful and poetic and I loved how casually the reality of the multidimensionality of the soul and super psychic consciousness was treated in it. It's dreamy and surreal and you can just let yourself float with it and let your imagination soar with it - no need to get profoundly highbrow if you don't fancy that. What a sublimely gifted man he is. May he pull through and live out the rest of his life in peace and full of blessings if that is for his highest and best 💗🙏🏻💗

After I read your comment I searched for videos on Midnight's Children and came across an interview he did in 2010. He discussed how he felt abandoned in 1991 by both the UK and US governments. That spoke loudly of our politics. ua-cam.com/video/5YkaMhnIZ3E/v-deo.html

Thank you deeply for this courageous, engaged and moving video. Let's pray for him to live! My favorite quote from midnight's children, which I have been carrying in my notebook for years, is
"Who what am I? My answer: I am the sum total of everything that went before me, of all I have been seen done, of everything done-to-me. I am everyone everything whose being-in-the-world affected was affected by mine. I am anything that happens after I've gone which would not have happened if I had not come. Nor am I particularly exceptional in this matter; each 'I', every one of the six-hundred-million-plus of us, contains a similar multitude."
Gives me shivers now. Let's pray that he will live. However, even if he'll have to go, his trace in the world will be deep and here forever.🙏🙏

I was 16 at the time of when the fatwa was issued and I can clearly remember it to this day. I've bookmarked Midnight's children another of his books to read next its about the partition of India and Pakistan. Sending prayers to him 🙏🙏🙏 I was listening with my headphones on and whist you were reading on the card king of swords i heard an alarm going off i had to pause to check it was at your end and not mine. Interesting! My husband and I were only talking earlier about how we feel we are all being 'dumbed down' and I was thinking how we all rely heavily on apps like google maps and i wonder how many people especially young people could read or follow a map today? Here in Spain we have a shortage of ice in the supermarkets. We coukd here people complaining that there was no ice. An elderly lady was laughing and chuckling to herself 'in my day we didn't have such luxuries. Just freeze some water for goodness sake.' I loved it made me smile!

I was born under Islam so I guess I consider myself Muslim but here’s what I thought about the attack. It was very sad, Rushdie is a good man who also stood against Islamophobia even though he is ex Muslim. He opposed the Iraq war, supported Palestinian resistance and was against the Hindus killing Muslims in India. He was against religious fascism, his teachings weren’t irrational but advocated for free thinkers. This attack should not be celebrated by Muslims and we need to come to terms with the fact that not everyone’s beliefs will align with others. Also his quote that people use God to justify the unjustifiable is spot on, especially when you think about what ISIS did in Mosul which used to be a religiously diverse city in Iraq but non Muslims and Muslims had to be forced out or flee as they sold Yazidi women as sex slaves and murdered Christians and used them as sex slaves as well and they would force young Muslim women into marrying older men all under the name of God. But I don’t think people don’t question anymore, there are plenty of muslims questioning their faith and leaning towards Muslims reformers or progressive Islam. Religion itself is a very triggering topic for many people. My father once wrote a book about Islam, it wasn’t even a bad book or anything against Islam but just viewpoints and facts and it almost got him in trouble with the UN

I can't exactly say I was surprised by Salman Rushdie's attack 2 days ago, but still deeply shocked. The man has lived under the shadow of a fatwa for 30 years, the courage and stress that would take can not be underestimated. I was in my early 20s when the fatwa was issued, but only actually read his books, first Midnight's Children then The Satanic Verses during my University learning a few years later. I was blown away that he was actually writing about my experiences as an Indian-British person. It was the first time I read in a book the word ladoos, the excitement I felt then still brings a giggle to my lips! It was the first time the themes and issues I had been grappling with my whole life around my identity, sense of belonging, bereftness of culture and lost in translation feelings were laid bare in English literature. I remember breathing a sign of relief that finally there was a book written by people like me for people like me! In Midnight's Children, Rushdie described in that beautiful magical realism way the grandfather as having a hole in his belly that got bigger & bigger as he grew older, so that his grandchildren could fit their hands & arms through it. It was his physical embodiment of the loss of his belief in his religion, his desperation at wanting to believe, and his inability to be able to. I knew that feeling well, and that imagery resonated deeply with me. Rushdie is not an easy read. His nuanced writing and often small fonted words take dedication to get through, I believe the fatwa was issued & sustained by people who never read or understood the context of the book and am deeply saddened that with the hardening of & polarization of the Muslim identity around 'to be a true Muslim you must hate this author & this book' it never got the chance to reach the audience it was perhaps most able to inspire. To me the passages that were deemed blasphemous were seen out of context. The theme of the book is about Eastern identities within an overwhelming Western culture - the loss of faith that can bring and the crisis to spirit it results in. The passages deemed blasphemous, are from a character's dreams who has lost his faith and cannot reconcile with this - he ultimately commits suicide as a result of this dilemma. Whereas the character who is able to embrace his religion as a strong part of who he is, is ultimately saved. Taken out of this context, Rushdie's writing has been seen as a deliberate attack on Islam instead of what I believe is an exploration. 30 years ago, just as now, it is interesting to watch the reactions particularly from the left who would traditionally support the underdog. The dilemma - who do you support when two values you hold dear are attacking each other - The underdog (minority rights) and freedom of speech? What I witnessed back then 30 years ago was a deafening silence, with people not really knowing how to react. I witnessed this first hand at a grass roots reading & publishing conference I attended where an elderly, gentle looking muslim couple were spouting hatred for Rushdie with a confident expectation of agreement from the audience, while the audience squirmed and looked uncomfortably at each other but remained silence. So where was my voice during these times? Also deafening silent I am ashamed to say. A terrible people pleaser & uncomfortable in my brown skin, fearful of humiliation and 'what will people think' I rarely publicly stood up for Rushdie and his challenging, controversial, boundary pushing ideas - I had no idea how to back then. 30 years on, having been married to an SA muslim and part of that community for a while and living in a country (South Africa) where I have seen & understood the methods more intimately to shut down and silence dissent voices and the deep courage it takes from ordinary people to say 'No!' I fight for freedom - freedom of thought; freedom to challenge the status quo thinking and old paradigms, freedom to push the boxed ideas on how the world is. I say loud and clear that Salman Rushdie did not deserve this attack and all the attacks over the last 30 years, he is a hero standing in deep courage and conviction, he has a human right to be heard and a human right to challenge & criticise religions and all institutions as we all do. I believe profoundly that the PEN is mightier than the sword. “The moment you declare a set of ideas to be immune from criticism, satire, derision, or contempt, freedom of thought becomes impossible,” Rushdie said in 2005. How right he was then, now, and always

It's an emancipation you went through. Thank you for sharing. It takes time to grow and find yourself. You did. Could you tell me a bit more, about the South African community you lived in? How was the vibe. How free where you, as a woman? Things you say about silencing dissent voices. With a large influx of Muslims in Europe. I'm shocked to see many hold such different beliefs. It's contrair to ours. I'm native European and scared of islam to be honest. Of the extremes. When you're critical of islam, you are attacked. It's all over social media. So I can imagine, it's also within families. When someone speaks out, or is different. They are silenced. There must be alot of lonliness. It's repressive, and in the end, will cause riots. Even within those communities. You will always have people who will have a problem with strict codes. You are a free spirit. When you repress that, its bound to do something to your soul. Sometime ago I walked through my old city. You have the city centre. Which is free, happy. A typical western city with bars, cafe's and shops. The other part of the city has a large muslim community. It's two different worlds. Men and women don't mix. It's not allowed. There are no bars, because alcohol is forbidden. It's a sad place, and has a lack of joy. The energy isn't good. Its hard to put into words. I hope you are well today. I'm from Holland by the way. YOu have a Dutch name :)

I had to look up Salman's astrology chart because this incident has coincided with Uranus-North Node at 18 degrees Taurus and the Aquarius Full Moon at 19 degrees. Salman had his Natal Jupiter at 19 degrees Scorpio in his Natal Chart. So, it's in opposition to the Uranus-North Node conjunction and in a square with the Full Moon and Leo Sun. Scorpio can rule revenge and death.
I'm not surprised by looking at this chart that Salman became an author and purveyor of free speech. He has his Natal Sun and Moon in Gemini (a New Moon) and Venus is also in Gemini. He has Mars at 21 degrees Taurus. Mars was a player in the Mars-Uranus-North Node (fateful awakening) conjunction on July 31-August 1. Mars recently crossed over Salman's Natal Mars as in a Mars Return. This all makes perfect sense.
I first learned about Salman Rushdie when I was at a university. One of his books, I think it was called Midnight's Children was required reading in one of my English classes. He is a talented author and he provokes with his words. I'm saddened to hear about the attack on him and free speech, not to mention, freedom of religious thought.

Knowing that Rushdie is surrounded by love and light in this very moment. Thank you for the video and for the discussion about ignorance and free speech. I believe the attack on free speech is heightened when the energy of fear is high and folks want to remain ignorant. This fear based energy knows that what dissipates it is shining the light of truth and knowledge and wisdom. So instead of allowing the light to shine, let's try to snuff it out. But, the light can't ever be snuffed out.

Agreed, we are here to give voice to the voiceless, to spiritually support each other, but most importantly stand guard at the gate of light for those who need additional defenses from darkness. When you mentioned "fate", I thought of fatwa...tying two lives together, the "infidel" and the "martyr" in a battle between the path of (divine) intelligence and the path of (earthly) ignorance. We are being asked to rise above our little ego to open up to the All-That-Is. Thanks, Amanda, for sharing your insights!

Thank you so much for talking about Salman Rushdie. He's really been on my mind since hearing the news yesterday. His book Midnight's Children is one of my all time favourites. He talks of one person's pickles and chutneys tasting delicious because they were made with love and care as opposed to another character's food was sour because of her personal bitterness. These concepts were completely new to me when I read them and have stayed with me. Love his work...complex and multi layered. And am so pleased that you are talking about him. And yes....I really agree with you we need to stand up for what we believe. Thanks.

I just had a thought, along with a picture of scene at the end of a film that I just happened to watch, that “fighting for something“ can sometimes be simply showing up. The guy caughtfighting four“ the woman he loved didn’t actually have to fight at all, something to be himself and to take the step to show up, to be open and receptive and welcoming when she was ready.
I was also very moved by your dad‘s gift of his mothers book of poetry to your daughter, and having everybody read a preselected poem around the table together. That had me in tears even before you started tearing up! Thinking also about my dad and grandfather. Remembering my dad discovering his father’s poetry as he was sitting with him in his last days. He sat next to the bed where his dad was pretty much unresponsive, discovering new sides of his father, reading pages of poetry that his father had written over the years. Beginning with a poem that he wrote about his little boys when my dad and uncle were young, poems about his wife, many poems with religious content as that was a big part of his life… and a poem about the cat that lived at my parents house… At his memorial service, various family and friends read a number of these poems. Really special. 🥰🥹😍

The feeling of love rises when the portal of your space opens to mine, thank you Amanda. For the music of yours and how you chose your words wisely. Its also the world I like to live in, my heart is shattered after listening to HG Tudor on Salman Rushdie, you were in the playlist after, even do I have you on another playlist from another window and got on another angle to it. His voice opens my psyche so it was not easy to listen to another voice so it made me feel as linking to your voice.
By the way, the multiverse is the word, please help me pray in the unknown so the multiverse is respected and real life too, defining both apart as such away so my formula can pass through and be developed in the best hands. It's a work in passive progressive process, shamans shall be honour as well in this beautiful process of creativity, arts, information and inspiration from all the cultures and portals from around the world. From the codes and logos, to the symbols and colours and any shape and shapeless form. My heart is too broken, perhaps this wound of being stabbed is the reality we have from extremist.
We have a gorgeous thing going on, so keep on, remain present and joyous, cucumber is great in the morning with lemon and persil, in juice or bite per bite, do it because its healthy not because you like it.
Have a beautiful day, every single sentence of yours is precious as the Ring of Power in the Lord of the Rings, ah ha. Hope some day you share the cards for Liz Truss, she does look as Galadriel in the next movie for September so please, please, please.

I share a birthday with Mr Rushdie and hope he survives. I hadn't realised how badly he had been injured and how many times he had been stabbed. Madness and yes, using God to justify violence is awful when we know God is Love. I wonder what makes any religious followers feel so angry that they would put a death penalty on someone for blasphemous words, in their opinion? Is there a defensive mechanism at play here? When presented with some uncomfortable opinions and perhaps truths about ones beliefs and religion, having ones very core beliefs questioned clearly making some so angry they would kill!! Defeats the whole point of a religion.

I am just watching your video, and at the same time, there is a tribute program to Bob Marley on the television.
As you were talking about the irony of SR being attacked in the bastion of free speech venue - the song ‘Get up, Stand up’ by Bob started playing.
“Get up stand up…stand up for your rights”.
If ever there was a synchronistic message.
(Bob is still here- supporting the free speakers.💜)

What a lovely story about your family 💕 I think it really touched me because if anyone had suggested doing this in my birth family, all except myself would have squirmed and been so embarrassed, my current family, my Children and Husband wouldn't have an issue with the attention focussed on them but would see it as a huge joke and would ridicule me for suggesting it. To hear you say what you did, is so comforting for me, it's also confirmation that my views on the situation the world has been in for 2.5 years do not mean I'm crazy or selfish or any of the others things I've been made out to be. I couldn't agree more with everything in this video. Thank you 🤗😇💕

They need to bring light to their belief system. You can critisise christianity, buddhism, but not islam. That's a problem.

Referring to Salman Rushdie's cultural influence in a fun fact kind of way--fans of the first "Bridget Jones's Diary" film (2001) will remember that Rushdie had a cameo appearance as himself during the long book launch scene. He's the one that noticed Bridget laughing hard as she joined his discussion circle then turned to her and asked her opinion about the topic. Also, when Bridget did the fumbling introduction to the ceremony, she called out Rushdie's name and referred to his influence as a famous author.
