love your road trips to different companys gives us all an insight into what's needed to be done to get the van kitted out . my favourite trip is the one to see George at captain seats just a brilliant company , once i get my van im looking at getting my seats done in light grey leather with purple alcantara and black piping should look fab .
Glad you've found it helpful bud 👊🏼😎
Thank for the reply my friend love following you on your adventures i wish you luck in everything you do as your such a cool and likeable guy .
I love that bed that pops up! I have a '95 Eurovan (T4) with a fixed bed. Since I'm a single person, next camping season, I'm just going to remove it and have SO MUCH EXTRA headroom!
Sounds like a plan!
My winter plan is a pop top install. May well be contacting Austops for a chat! Looks great G!
Sounds awesome. Personally I'm happy with them and the job they did. Let em know I sent you and ask for a discount, you never know!!! ;)
Keep the upgrades coming G Dub as I'm really enjoying them
+George Hamilton Thanks for the positive comments :)
Great video mate. I had an Austops roof on my old T4 and was very happy with the fit and finish.
+VW T5 Travels thanks, just watched your HiLo video, looks nice!
Great vid, looks a great product at an affordable price, as you say worth the journey for what seems great customer service. Look forward to further vids on your camping experience using it!
+Midlife Camper thanks :)
Great video - having an Austop fitted next month - can't wait!
grasmiffy you won’t regret it!
Hi Grasmiffy, I know its a couple of years now but I'm interested in how you've been getting on with your Austops poptop. Is it all a happy ending? Do you think you got value for money and good enough service ? Thank you.
Great video mate. Very happy with mine. Max is a top bloke. 👍
Max was super helpful ;)
Austops are one of the best price wise, give them a try
Agree!
Brilliant pal, look great 👍
Cheers
Nice vid mate, your helping me out loads, thanks.
Thanks 👊🏼
very very nice, I've enjoyed watching all your videos today and they've given me heaps of ideas for when i get my van. Do you mind me asking how much you initially paid for your van? I am trying to work out what I can realistically get for my money and yours seamed to be in good nick from the beginning.
I bought it last year for £6.9k, was basically a panel van with a few dents and dings. But low mileage at 72k on the clock
Great Video Gordon! Thanks
+TheChilliBiker Thanks
Fantastic video.
+Mark Anderton thanks bud
Very helpful mate! Have you still got the van?
Sold it to a mate, got a T6 now, just had another Austops roof fitted!
Cracking video as always👍
+Eastwest Electrical thanks :)
great vid. is there any difference in driving the van now? max speedlimit or something like that to avoid having wind cracking it open?
You don't notice it's any different, other than when you look up and see the boards there. The noise in the cab is the same and the roof is securely strapped down so you don't have to worry about it 'cracking open' - That'd be crazy!! lol
Hi G - found your vids really useful pal - just starting the 5.1 conversion! Looking at the inside of the roof it looks open at the back by the rear of the van..is i mate??
I see what you mean @ 15:45 you can see light! It's got clear mastic sealing it, no gaps at all, all water tight, excellent finish too! Hope that helps 👊🏼😎
Cheers, helps a lot!
Thanks for the vid mate I’m a new T5 SWB owner thinking of getting this done for a Euro trip ventilation and if I have visitors they can sleep down below - I’m wondering if you have experienced / heard of issues with these? For example water proofing with all the rain we have in UK?
I’ve had 2 Austops roofs now. The one on the T5 is still going strong. I sold it to a friend last year and he still has the van. That’s been fitted now for almost 3 years and no problems with that one. I’ve also got one fitted to my VW T6. Had that fitted about 6 months ago and equally happy with that one. A worthy investment mate! Hope that helps.
Great vid. Did the plastic trim come fitted between the cab and roof? I didn't get this with my Austop and the finish is shoddy. Cheers.
Hi, yep, the plastic trim was fitted by Austops ;)
Thanks. I will contact them now to see if they can send me one. Would be nice to have a quality finish.
should mention Austops didnt fit. It was one of their independent fitters.
Hi mate do u know the weight limit of the pop top bed?
Great vid what locks the roof down?
+iTraveller the 2 straps in the cab hold it down really securely
Is there anything other than the straps holding it down? Rented a camper a couple years back that looks like it had the same roof, but found if it wasn’t pulled down really tight it would lift at 40+mph (makes for some interesting driving 😬)
Hi can you tell me the lengh of the gas struts and can you add a pic of how there fitted including the rear hinge cheers
Give Austops a call, they'll be better placed to help
Hi G, loving your videos, I’m considering Austin’s myself, vs skyline at my local converters. Are you still loving yours since fitted?
It’s good, so yes!
How’s this shaped up over time? Still working out well?
Yeah, I've since sold it but the new owner is loving it and still working like new!
@@GDUBTV thanks for the info though!!!
Hi when is the video on the Sargent coming ?
+craig joyce won't be until I can get a clear weekend to re-scribe my units back on the van. Hopefully end of October if all goes to plan
Hi, great vid, I am about to order one, what camera do you use for filming?
The bulk of the video was done on the front facing (selfie camera) on my iPhone SE. The head shots of me talking in the hotel room are done on a Canon G7X Mk2. I'm keen to use the Canon more but the ease of use and access for my iPhone usually means I just use that when in a hurry. The Canon kicks out much clearer images and has a better depth for a point and shoot but the files it kicks out are much larger which causes me quite a lot more time on post-production/editing. Still learning and finding new ways of working. Hope that helps tho!
Thank you for taking the time to reply, I thought you were using some really expensive filming kit because the video quality and sound were very good. The reason i asked was because I am now starting a conversion and want to film some of it.
+marksrv6 Go for it!
How much did this the roof conversion cost ? Thanks
Contact Austoos direct or have a look on their website as prices change
Hiya, how is the roof holding up? still happy with it?
It’s still there!
hiya mate just a question for you the roof top bed with the gas struts, is the bed board hinged at the end of it and approx. how long is the bed.
Cheers.
Ian
Hinged at the base, it's approx 2.5 metres in length
G Dub TV cheers bud👍
You didnt fancy tackling the install yourself then? 🙂
Interestingly if I had a workshop (and it would need to be pretty large!) I would def had tried it myself over a few days - Initially seems really daunting but having gotten over the fear of cutting the van apart to do the windows it's not that much different really. Cut a big (precise) hole in the roof, tidy it all up, drop in and bond the strengthening frame, pop on the cap and connect everything up, job done! lol #easy #eeeeek
G Dub Campers the cutting out is the easy bit. Getting it all lined up and a nice neat curtain and fastened tightly is the trickiest and also they are bloody heavy!! I did mine and next one im planning using a hoist. Yours had a frame but mine had a front and back frame with side strengtheners. I was supplied all the wrong measurements and wrong struts as well which was fun figuring that out! 😂 next one will be easier.
How much did it cost?
Contact Austops, prices on their website
How you finding this
I'm thinking of this roof
I've sold the van now, but the roof was great! So great infact they're also doing the roof on my new T6 👌🏼
@@GDUBTV I've just started to follow you love your channel
I collect my van Saturday I've been talking to austops think I'll go with them cheers for the recommendation
@@jamestinson9069 You won't regret it!! If you see Max there (the owner) say hi from me!! ;)
what u think of the Denby high roof have a t5 myself ?
+maddog hound Horses for courses really bud. Wouldn’t work for me as mine is a daily runner and need to be able to creep under car park height restriction barriers... but as a permanent hightop solution it’s as good as any, they have a good reputation for build quality. Personally I think they are a bit overpriced for what they are but hey ho. Hope that helps!?!
it does, thanks. mines a daily runner too, been quoted 1095 for high top, fit it myself nd 1525 for pop top ...big saving doing it myself, also putting in cmc.coliovers next Wednesday wondering if you heard any thing about them?
Hi mate, is austops no longer trading?
Still going
Great job , you might want to try to improve a bit on the Scottish accent 😂🇮🇪
lol, thanks... I think! ;)
