best way i've found to stop people shouting at marshals and other racers is to film them and mock them and laugh at them. There is one reason for RC and one reason only...FUN. Those not having fun and shouting at others maybe need a new hobby. These are toy cars, toy cars crash, don't like it you're in the wrong hobby, go collect some stamps or spot some trains.

Angry people are not needed. Understand that a lot of people take it very very seriously, most though it is a fun hobby to 'escape' life... Good point about the qualifying rounds not being racing. 👍👍
My pet hate is those that do not marshal after their round, especially those that break their car in that round and then don't marshal as they want to fix it even though they have loads of time until their next round.

    I’ve got 2 more…
    - Don’t just run out to rescue the stranded car without looking first. I’ve seen loads of races ruined by marshals treading on or kicking peoples cars.
    - A group marshals are required to marshal just as much as the rookies are. At my local clubs the A group guys are much less efficient at marshalling yet are the first to shout out when they crash!

You've raised some very valid points, and a few of those I've been guilty of to be honest. Race etiquette can be very hit and miss at some meetings, people taking other drivers out then disappearing off into the distance instead of giving the place back is very annoying, and shouting at each other when things go against you. We've all done it, sometimes difficult to keep the emotions in check, but if you do 'blow up' at someone in a race then please talk to them afterwards, and apologise if need be, it costs you nothing and keeps relations good. As for marshalling, one thing that does annoy me is when someone races then they get someone else to marshal for them, personally I think there should be a rule that if you race you have to marshal, and if you don't marshal you should be docked points, or have to start the next round at the back, or something similar.

    • @PopalongRC

Interesting… I do know that when you have kids if they are young you might want to mashal for them and equally if they are a bit older marshal for you so you can fix their car …

Also people who have 2 cars racing and next heat is after first class they have raced so they get someone to Marshall for them which is good for club also as it's more revenue having someone race 2 classes so dont think marshalling is revelent at all as long as we have Marshall's marshalling races

I used to race r/c buggies 30+ years ago.
When I had my own kids, my son fancied trying r/c cars. There's a local carpet/Mardave club near me, so we thought that was the way to go...fun basic racing.
I couldn't have been more wrong. We arranged to go to a race night to spectate...but could not have been made to feel more unwelcome. Nobody seemed at all interested in a young lad getting involved...it was very elitist. It's no wonder people struggle to learn the etiquette with clubs like this around
Funnily enough there was a slot car club nearby and we visited them too. Totally different attitude. They explained everything, and ykur entry fee got you a decent club car to borrow for the session.

It's supposed to be FRIENDLY competition and fun. I've been racing in and off since 1984. I am ashamed to say that I have dealt out retribution due to being continuously roughed up many time during a race. Probably not very sportsman like for sure. It's understandable there will be occasional contact and I forgive that.

Man that one about getting out to Marshall on time is a real bug bear with me…I race in the slowest class at WLRC and man the amount of time wasted waiting for them to finish of their mother’s meeting and slowly almble to their marshalling point p*sees me off no end lol…I wouldn’t mind if everyone does it but we’re always out as soon as our race is done, no faffing around but sometimes the clock is paused and we have to wait to start our race/quali etc whilst these ladies finish their gossiping 😂 I’ll cling off my soapbox now hahaha. Interesting one, your finally leading a race, nerves are there, the “better driver” is a lap down on you, if they start driving well and catch the leader up (but still a lap down), the current leader has the right to not let you through

    • @PopalongRC

One of my biggest ones was when I was racing Large Scale it was common for someone to crash they would just start revving the nuts off the car, either out of frustration or thinking it would get the attention of the marshal quicker. Marshalling can be hairy at the best of times no matter the scale but large scale even more so. So if people started revving their car after they'd crashed I would just stand and watch the car until they've stopped as I didn't want to put my hands anywhere near those wheels.

If you want to build a track then I suggest you speak with local council parks services as there are loads of disused bowling greens which can easly be repurposed. They are usally about 30-40 metres square. I'm in the process of getting approval for a track near me. Hope this helps.
Better to have it under your own control and events get tricky being public land but worth a shot for at least a decent basher club/small group of racers and open spce for beginners. Keep up the good work

At one race , I was talking to a friend about modifying my truck and was over heard by the race director . A short time later , I was told by the race director that I was not allowed to modify my truck because I win +90% of the time anyway. I thought this was unfair , so I made it a point to win every race for the next 4 months with my stock truck. After that season , I stopped racing at this track. At the next track , I was encouraged by the race director to do whatever I wanted so long as it conformed to the rules. I still race there to this day .
