In this video I test loaded the Saracen with weight and bulk, including a full bladder of water, cook set and rations, with a view to find its fail point.

Its a very good backpack, although having army training with the dutch air assault (LUMB) I wasn’t able to finish the training because of an injury.
What amazed me with this backpack is the amount of personal kit and group kit one could carry with the same comfort as a lot of other packs, I even spoke to one soldier who had to carry a panzerfaust with it and managed to do this in an jungle environment
Known the feeling...tried 3 times ...last time heatstroke a couple days before the "general rehearsal " back in 2002..
Brilliant to see such a thorough review of this big bugger of a bergan. I changed from the Karrimor Sabre as it wasnt as adjustable. I have had 33kg in mine over 3 days and i did have to bulk out the shoulder straps with some sleeping pad foam as they are just a tad narrow but aside from that I cannot for the life of me find another pack that hits the sweet spot like this one...modular, strong , simple and bloody comfy. Great to see your review cover it so well! Stay keen!
Cheers from down in NZ
Felix, where did you get yours & how long ago? Please read my comment above. Cheers, Dave (Australia)
Great review I got one of these when I ordered a sting at received a Lowe Saracen. I was very happy with the error! I think the (Fesca?) version is also decent. Great back system, a few other makers could have learned from it. Really well designed and made, seems to make carrying a load a little easier. 👍
A very good, clear, detailed and comprehensive review, thank you. I have the smaller version, the Sting pack.
I think all Loew Alpine of any size are awesome Bergens, and I've reviewed plenty of Patrol sacks & Bergens.....all the best bex
It's a great video, very thorough ! Just got mine from Varusteleka yesterday. Their waiting list really works. I can't wait to go camping !
When you find that ruck that fits you and your style it is a Godsend! I am FINALLY just finishing mine and I have been bushcamping most of my life and thought I had found the one a few times in the past.
For wild camping I like my Berghaus Cyclops 90, Tent or bivi/pad/sleeping bag/stove, job done. Minimal components maximum luxury. Saracen great for multiple components or 20Kg plus. thanx for watching...b
Looks a great bergen well thought out and comfortable compared to my shortback MTP bag 👍🏴
Totally agree
Good review Bex. Looks a decent bit of kit and tailored to you needs
There is a vid coming up on all the (add on for it).....bex
Great review. Thanks for posting.
No problem!
Great review Bex,bought myself the smaller brother a 60ltr sting from military mart, best £35 ive ever spent, really like it,decided to not buy the side pouches with it,just try and adapt it for my liking.cheers for sharing mr.
I think the 55 Sting would accommodate my short stay night camps, will keep my peepers open for one, £35 sounds a bargain. I will use the Saracen for my bulkier winter kit camp kit.
@@bexbugoutsurvivor my apologies it was forces uniform and kit i got my one from.£35.
Very interesting 😊
I’ve been on the fence about one of these for awhile. I ordered one off you review. I’ll have to fix those zippers tho
I've just brought the same pack as you've got there Bex looks amazing I've seen a lot of reviews on this Bergen I've got the medium one in which I'm trying to sell as I don't need both mate
Great review 👍 have always liked the look of this Bergen and I think you have just convinced me to get one
Hope you enjoy it!
@@bexbugoutsurvivor shows the power of your videos, both the saracens i was watching online have sold 😳
Bex, an outstanding review. Thorough & very comprehensive. Your review was so good it's convinced me that I should purchase this bergen. Can you or any other subscribers, please recommend a reputable dealer who sells these bergens? I'd prefer it to be in a condition similar to yours, complete with side "rocket" pouches. I've checked out Varusteleka, but their side pouches have black plastic strap guides, not "tape loops" like yours. Many thanks. Keep up the great work. Dave, Australia

@@bexbugoutsurvivor Many thanks mate. They're currently sold out but I will keep in contact with them to find out when they're restocking. I read the review you left there too! Cheers
Great review
cheers mate...
Anyone prefer this or the Belgian 110 Liter military pack? Both are built similar is style but wondering which is better quality. Or the Italian military pack
Hi, I am constantly returning to this video for advice:) But after a training, I have a question: how to deal with battle belts using this Bergen. I was not able to fit both belts correctly. Or it is suitable just for chest rigs? So, what is your experience on this?
Question where csn you buy purchase this?
Keep googling...
I just got one from varusteleka Finland .
How do you find it rides the weight on your back and hips, in comparison to your Berghaus Bergen?
If you we're to compare it to an external ally frame pack, how does it ride the weight??
You said it was your favourite Bergan, so..?
The Berghaus is preferable for transporting minimal individual pieces of kit when durability is required, as where if you have the need to transport multiple individual pieces of kit, or heavy kit use the Saracen.
This is only the way I use them, and may not be relatable to others preferences or options...
The Saracen is an internal frame not an external frame. Internal for bugging out a load, external for lighter camp kit in comfort.
I have a the Lowe Alpine Saracen.. it has Lowe alpine written on the buttons at the top of the aluminium spines.. and mine has a huge front buckle.. however.. it does not have the 2 vertical side padded pads, also the top plastic V where the straps conjoin is proud, and really rubs my back.. it's padding is less that your's.. so is the Dutch army one better than the model I have? I've Google it and it appears my original low alpine (not the issued Dutch army) isn't as padded for the back, apart from that. It's identical. Any ideas? Have you seen my version? Is yours a better model? Many thanks
I reallt want your bag.. is there nay numbers inside it.. mide does not have the same padding yours does for my back.. mine has non, I have the official Lowe Alpine Saracen but it must be a different model.. which is your bag compared to mine?
I assume there was a model consructed for militery application, and another for civillians. But I am only guessing here, this is a ruck I need to research a lot more. But rest assured I am possitive they are both solid packs which ever one you have....
