G'day Pate, gotta say thanks for all your informative vids. They've helped me so much with my burgeoning music production using garage band IOS. Something I'm wondering and would appreciate your take on using apple loops and virtual instruments and possible elements of autoplay in songs and uploading them to DistroKid as I believe, and correct me if I'm incorrect, that they (Distrokid) state that there are to be no samples, loops etc from sources such as garage band in your songs. Is this true, and if so I'm not sure I understand the issue if said loops, samples etc are not copyrighted. Apologies for the quite long winded question. Your thoughts or clarification would be greatly appreciated, cheers!
Hey there! Yeah, this is a complicated one. You’re right that DistroKid state that you can’t use loops and samples, mostly to protect them against issues with people using copyrighted content. They even say you shouldn’t use “free” loops. In reality, myself and many others have used GarageBand instruments, auto play, loops and samples without issues at all. The key is to ensure that you’re never using just a single loop or sample at a time, and do some customizing (chopping, changing pitch, changing tempo). I talk about this a little more here. ua-cam.com/video/MfAWx368-P4/v-deo.htmlsi=-aaltWX7kbh7P9XS
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks for the response mate, I watched the link you provided and hadn't seen that one previously. So after watching the link it seems to me that just avoiding having songs that may contain a sample/loop dropped onto youtube would alleviate that issue. At least on that platform. My original question was in the world of hypotheticals as at this point in time I have no intention of releasing (commercially) anything made up of loops or samples etc. Thanks again for the clarification!
If I were to release a song using DistroKid, and then cancel my subscription, will my songs remain on those platforms that DistroKid put it on? Or would they be taken down until I restart my subscription? Basically, are they up for good?

They will be removed unless you have a current subscription, or you use the “legacy” option. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
