That table is beautiful. And what is really amazing, it only took you 5 minutes and 13 seconds to build it. Just think of what you could have done if you'd only spent another minute. Great work.
I love you preserve the natural look of the wood as much as you can with the acrylic to plug that big hole. It just add character to the table. Very beautiful table.
because an odd, but similar piece of wood is going to stand out, regardless. At least here, you make it a showcase instead of a mistake. It''s a taste thing. Originates in George Nakashima's work.
I've read a lot of vile comments here that are completely uncalled for. The craftsmanship demonstrated here is very good, and the design was great. If you don't like the look of it, that's a matter of taste, and doesn't warrant the vitriol. Great work, Wesley!
he could just done it to the flip side of the table and all woulld be great ... he would just have groved a metal plate so deep that the plexiglas still fits in , and i would rater have that hole in the table than that cut out ...overall and i can see that he teachd him his self .. a schoold carpenter would do things diffrent but overall a good job for diy
SKATAN Yes, I'm sure the person that chooses to present themselves incompetently has considerable experience in the subject. Yes, like when there's a crack in the material. That's when it's necessary. "fits in the optic?" I assumed you mean "looks good." Once again, these kinds of fixes are often considered a feature instead of a detriment. Your time-wasting illiterate dumbfuckery fits like a pink sticker on top, so bugger off, kindly.
I'm confused why you put the bowtie patch on the visible side, instead of hidden. Also, why not fill the hole with a pretty resin instead of just an acrylic cover? It's a very nice table tho, I'm just curious.
Butterfly is sometimes the feature (hence the different wood species used) of the tabletop. And second, resin is expensive. And I agree, very nice table :)
I like the clear cover to see the imperfection in the wood... not sure about that bowtie though. Awesome table. It would cost me 26 thousand dollars to buy the tools to do this. lol
Because bow tie splines look awesome, that's why! Ignore the armchair woodworkers, kid. They've never built anything. All they've done is watch UA-cam's of other people living their dreams. Keep at it!
Jeff Blakeman In a sense yes but I think it enhances the look and shows quality work. Plus the epoxy doesn't doesn't absorb stain like traditional wood would.
I am not normally a fan of 'live edge' design furniture, but your design and assembly of this piece has completely changed my outlook. It is incredibly beautiful IMHO, and your choice of woods, and finish, really show it off to its best. Absolutely a stunning job! Thanks for sharing with us.
Keyser Soze I've seen tables where they took advantage on the live edge of the knot hole and cut salvaged glass to similarly match the profile and recessed it into the table rather than a rectangular inset
My son and I think this project is awesome and he would like to try and make one. If we do I will make sure you get credit in the video for the design inspiration.
Wow! This is like watching someone paint. It looks like anyone can do it but the patience it takes to get this good eludes me. All I can say is you know you are watching a talented person when they make it look so easy! TY for the share
Very nice table but where is the waterfall? Also, you ruined the table with that small piece of acrylic on top. The natural hole is 1000 times nicer left natural.
yossieven I think the hole LOOKS ugly as hell, but he covered the original with a piece of acrylic, so it's not really a "hole" per se. I think either finding a piece with no through holes would have been 100 times nicer. I like that the piece has character, but that 'fix' ruined it. An clear epoxy filler would have saved it.
well, I wouldn't go that far to say it is ugly, I think it is nice to chow the imperfect aspects of nature and by closing the hole it is also practical without actually losing this "feature". it is a matter of taste, I suppose. Good work nonetheless.
Great to see a young guy working with his hands, a bonus that you are an Aussie. I like the mix of tool brands, just like my workshop. Pay the big money for the tools that are better and save on the tools that don't matter so much. Keep it up
Wesley - disregard the naysayers. That's a gorgeous piece of furniture. Sure - I'd do a few things differently if I was at that skill level (I'm just starting out but hope to get there eventually), but your craftsmanship is superb! Don't stop there! Keep'em coming!
I am sure those naysayers couldn't come close to producing such a fine piece. Dissen some one can always enhance one's own ego. They, of course, need it. That's a great job
What a beautiful piece of wood... Great project. I love natural finishes on wood, especially when the piece of wood is as spectacular as this one. Well done.
+ Lewis Clark Just goes to show that tool snobbery is silly. Spend the bucks on the most important ones to you, and save a ton of money buying cheap, less critical tools.
Wow, there is so much waterfall in this one, and nothing radiates harmony and taste like wood and plastic. Along with the Burl Clock and the LED Lamp, this is probably the most abominable thing ever done to wood. =)
Wow that turned out really nice! I really like the look of the wood before staining, but I was impressed that the stain you used didn't darken it too much. Thanks for the video
That is an awesome piece of work and art. When I see something like that I want to buy and put it in my front room. Its a good thing I'm broke or I'd have a roomful of stuff like that. Truly awesome. Thank you for sharing.
This is a very nice design. There only thing that I think could have made this piece nicer. It's the way you cut the slab for the waterfall effect. You should have cut the 45's from the same ends where you made the initial cut. There would have been a continuation of the grain without interruption thus creating a true unbroken waterfall effect. The piece is amazing and I am not criticizing the work. It is only a suggestion to consider if you ever do another piece like that. I suggest it because I have made the same mistake before.
I love the table, wesley. And I think the bow tie actually adds a nice effect, same with the plexiglass over the hole. Adds character in my opinion. Plus, epoxy filler doesn't absorb stain the same as wood, so the people who are saying it was a dumb idea just don't know what their talking about. Keep up the good work, looking forward to more cool builds like this
wow, thank you so much, yeah i love designing too, my goal is to make products that no one has seen before. i just think its a good way to approach design :)
That is very cool! I was wondering how it stood up. I couldn't see the acrylic in the picture. Also, it is amazing how well you chiseled out the butterfly hole. It looked really straight. Wish I could do all that!
it's really nice and the effort payed, but if you will make another one I advice you to fill holes with transparent or even colored epoxy by simply blocking it from bottom, filling it, sanding it and then apply a clear coat on top.. good job bro!!
First, thanks for shooting this in time lapse. I can't understand why some woodworkers think I need to watch them sand a piece of wood for 10 minutes. Otherwise, really nice table!
That table is beautiful. And what is really amazing, it only took you 5 minutes and 13 seconds to build it. Just think of what you could have done if you'd only spent another minute. Great work.
That is a beautiful table and beautiful material. A nice demonstration of great woodworking skill.
thanks Richard
though i dont like 'natural' furniture shapes, this work looks amazing, very well done, Wesley.
thank you :)
I love you preserve the natural look of the wood as much as you can with the acrylic to plug that big hole. It just add character to the table. Very beautiful table.
thanks :)
That is an incredibly cool design. It came out looking amazing.
+Wood Frontier wow thank you so much :)
i like the use of the bowtie instead of just flooding it with the two part epoxy. and the glass over the natural hole was PERFECT.
thanks :)
Amazing! Love the creativity with the small plexiglass on the table!!!
+Chumchum thanks :)
Wow that is some skill you have. You make it look so easy and that goes to show just how skilled you are. Brilliant.
thank you so much :)
great you gave me ideas for a Bar top and waterfall feature at one end, using Red Eucalyptus Burls !
no worries :)
Any chance you could explain what the hourglass-shaped cutout on the top was for?
Beautiful piece, by the way!
There was a split in the wood, they use an hourglass cutout and make it a tight fit so the split wont get worse.
It looks very odd though. Why not use a similar piece of wood? Now it looks out of place to me.
because an odd, but similar piece of wood is going to stand out, regardless.
Beautiful table!! The piece of wood you placed in the middle of the crack is that to strengthen that area and stop the split? Great craftmenship!!!
Yes.
Thank you. I was thinking about, why he put a bow-tie in there?! :D
he could just done it to the flip side of the table and all woulld be great ... he would just have groved a metal plate so deep that the plexiglas still fits in , and i would rater have that hole in the table than that cut out ...overall and i can see that he teachd him his self .. a schoold carpenter would do things diffrent but overall a good job for diy
SKATAN Not necessarily. Also, bowties are often considered a feature of a table, and not something to be hidden, necessarily.
There are Carpenters, then there are Craftsman, you fit the latter, VERY fine job, beautiful table
It would cost me 26 thousand dollars to buy the tools to do this. lol
butterflies are supposed to be seen and are almost always done in a contrasting wood
Because bow tie splines look awesome, that's why! Ignore the armchair woodworkers, kid. They've never built anything. All they've done is watch UA-cam's of other people living their dreams. Keep at it!
Beautiful beautiful. What a great optical illusion, the table looks like it should fall over, but it's not. Good job.
Beatiful table! May I ask what the bow tie piece is for? u may have said aloud in video but I watched it silent...just curious
So that the crack in the wood won't spread anymore
Aha! That shoulda been obvious to me....that's what I get for watching videos in the middle of the night...lol
Joshua Zeledon wouldn't epoxy filler have been just as effective without disrupting the aesthetics?
Jeff Blakeman In a sense yes but I think it enhances the look and shows quality work. Plus the epoxy doesn't doesn't absorb stain like traditional wood would.
I am not normally a fan of 'live edge' design furniture, but your design and assembly of this piece has completely changed my outlook. It is incredibly beautiful IMHO, and your choice of woods, and finish, really show it off to its best. Absolutely a stunning job! Thanks for sharing with us.
wow thank you so much
Why not just fill the hole with resin? It would look better and more natural than shoving a big goofy rectangular piece of plexiglass in there
+Keyser Soze resin is expensive
Expensive enough to make you ruin a decent looking table?
Wesley Inglis or you could have put that piece at the bottom? jus wondering!!
Divakar D'suoza at the bottom crap would collect in the hole. resin would have been the way to go.
Keyser Soze I've seen tables where they took advantage on the live edge of the knot hole and cut salvaged glass to similarly match the profile and recessed it into the table rather than a rectangular inset
Absolutely Fantastic!! That is a gorgeous coffee table!!
thank you!
Beautiful table.
+mmanut thank you :)
Guys i found a great website about woodworking that is *TopFineWoodworking. Com*
recommended to all woodworkers
this was an amazing utilization of the wood and other material inherent properties to the fullest, most aesthetically pleasing sense. Simply amazing.
Beautiful work!
thank you robert!!
Beautiful piece of timber, a creative way to display the fabulous grain.
My son and I think this project is awesome and he would like to try and make one. If we do I will make sure you get credit in the video for the design inspiration.

Listening to this with my headphones I feel like on a dentist chair..
lmao true tho
Beautiful workmanship right there. Gorgeous color on that wood.
Very nice table but where is the waterfall? Also, you ruined the table with that small piece of acrylic on top. The natural hole is 1000 times nicer left natural.
+Alan Shields water fall is the flow of the grain over the mitre joint
I wouldn't want a hole in my table where I put coffee on :-)
yossieven I think the hole LOOKS ugly as hell, but he covered the original with a piece of acrylic, so it's not really a "hole" per se. I think either finding a piece with no through holes would have been 100 times nicer. I like that the piece has character, but that 'fix' ruined it. An clear epoxy filler would have saved it.

Alan Shields so was your moms
I LOVE THIS. Brilliant work with the hidden plexiglass.
How do you work in superhuman speed like that?
TheSkoob im guessing this is a joke
I like the care and attention to detail you took in constructing this. Well done!
+camguy1458 thank you :)
now that's skill.
Jason Gibbons give him a sub
Certainly a Real Quality Piece;
Your a Great Craftsman Very Enjoyable Video.
Thank You 😊
The Bow Tie is to prevent the Wood to go on splitting far more by drying out isn't it?
Artistic craftsmanship. Well done.
Where the fuck is the waterfall
Here are some great woodworking plans if you're interested: HootWood. com
Why, to listen to a damn 20 minute video of some guys life story just to buy his software? It's ridiculously stupid. Seriously, don't go to the site.
I think the wood is supposed to represent the "water"-fall.
it is the name of the style. When the bench top material continues over the edge rather than having traditional legs, they call it "waterfall"
Reduncey check
Man, you are making art out of a scrap. Well done. Would like to see more nature shaped furniture, like TV stand etc.
Where is the waterfall?? :(
Drool Sheep the shape is named watterfall !!!
Beautiful Table! Thx for sharing. Liked seeing all the different power tools in action!
wow thankyou so much :)
Fast with his hands,it's a wonder he don't screw up with the measurements and fine detail, years in prison that for sure ;)
Eh?
Gav T LOL!
You are by far the fastest woodworker I have ever seen!
Great to see a young guy working with his hands, a bonus that you are an Aussie.
I like the mix of tool brands, just like my workshop. Pay the big money for the tools that are better and save on the tools that don't matter so much. Keep it up
From one furniture maker to another, thats absolutely fantastic! Well done!
Thanks Xavior!
Wesley - disregard the naysayers. That's a gorgeous piece of furniture. Sure - I'd do a few things differently if I was at that skill level (I'm just starting out but hope to get there eventually), but your craftsmanship is superb! Don't stop there! Keep'em coming!
Wow- fastest I've ever seen anyone work. This guy is quick!
Nice to see the dedication and patience in your work.
+Kees de Jong thank you :)
Very nice table,I love the Dutchman work ,You made great use of the slabs you had.
Well done sir. Creative and neatly done!! Thanx for showing...
You are a proper craftsman. Great work!
+Dom Castle thanks Dom
I am sure those naysayers couldn't come close to producing such a fine piece. Dissen some one can always enhance one's own ego. They, of course, need it. That's a great job
What a beautiful piece of wood... Great project. I love natural finishes on wood, especially when the piece of wood is as spectacular as this one. Well done.
+GordWing thanks you so much :)
Very original, and well made too. I never thought I would see Ryobi and Festool in the same construction video...well done on beating the hype.
+Ant Mallett thanks :)
Haha! Yes, an unusual marriage of tools!
+ Lewis Clark Just goes to show that tool snobbery is silly. Spend the bucks on the most important ones to you, and save a ton of money buying cheap, less critical tools.
Wow what an amazing design. I love the way you are using the natural features of the wood.
+Barry Gurney thank you Barry, really appreciate it :)
Great build. Nothing like working with live edge to open up your imagination !
yes! definitely :) haha thanks
Nice work. I like the use of acrylic for a leg; I haven't seen that done before
Yeah thanks, i saw a photo on pinterest of it haha that's what pinterest is good for
An incredible piece of work, super nice.
thanks johan!
Wow, there is so much waterfall in this one, and nothing radiates harmony and taste like wood and plastic. Along with the Burl Clock and the LED Lamp, this is probably the most abominable thing ever done to wood. =)

wow! Outstanding Table
thanks :)

Also, what stain did you use? It's stunning
Mom would never let me stain on the tile floor! Beautiful work!
hahaha thank you!
Amazing craftsmanship!

cool table I did not see the acrylic first. that was a great illusion
thanks, that was the idea
well done
I just fast forwarded fast forward movie. Now I know how to build coffee table.
Subscribed! I'm excited to watch more of your videos!! You don't just have building talent, you've got design talent too.
wow, thank you so much, yeah i love designing too, my goal is to make products that no one has seen before. i just think its a good way to approach design :)
Nicely done! I really like the techniques you used to get this done.
Pretty goofy looking, but I can think of some people who'd pay a lot for it! Good Work!
Lovely piece of wood, great work!
fabulous piece of work!!
Great looking table and design
+gvcooljr thank you so much :)
That is very cool! I was wondering how it stood up. I couldn't see the acrylic in the picture. Also, it is amazing how well you chiseled out the butterfly hole. It looked really straight. Wish I could do all that!
That's one of the coolest, natural tables I've seen. Great job!
That's a beautiful table.
thanks Robert :)
Great work. Good to see another Aussie maker.
very good ,I thought I was the only one to use biskets like that, please be very careful with the dust as sometimes it is very harmful,Great work
This table is courageous. Love the wood.
it's really nice and the effort payed, but if you will make another one I advice you to fill holes with transparent or even colored epoxy by simply blocking it from bottom, filling it, sanding it and then apply a clear coat on top.. good job bro!!
Beautiful. Just beautiful.
Nice project Wesley, well done. Beautiful grain too.
First, thanks for shooting this in time lapse. I can't understand why some woodworkers think I need to watch them sand a piece of wood for 10 minutes. Otherwise, really nice table!
Just beautiful, nicely done
Thank you :)
When I first started watching I was going to complain about no music...
but it has become strangely soothing...
haha thanks
Verum
Gah! I can't stand music in the background for videos like this. Better to make up for it in editing it down, as was done here
