For anyone that doesn't have the clay, you can do the base in strips of paper mache (flour, water, scrap paper). Recipe for wheatpaste (glue): Bring 1 cup of water to a boil in a pot on the stove, add a tablespoon of white vinegar (acidity stops mold). In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup of cold (or room temperature) water and 1/2 cup of flour and whisk until no lumps. Then pour your cold flour mixture into the pot of boiling water and whisk. Once you see the flour go from white to somewhat translucent, turn off the burner and remove from heat to cool. It only takes 30 seconds to a minute. Once cooled, dip and coat your strips of paper, squeegee off excess glue sliding the strip between your fingers. Overlap the strips, do a few layers. You can also scrunch pieces up or twist them to add detail like a nose, and then smooth it out with tiny torn strips of paper over that. Separating the water like this (cold + boiled) assures that the flour will not stick and burn to the bottom of your pan. Heating flour causes the gluten to activate which makes it sticky. You can add less flour, 1/4 cup will still be sticky enough, but will be more watery, so i find it's longer to dry your project. Some people add a little sugar to make it even more sticky, but it's unnecessary. Also, adding vinegar is not necessary if you don't have it, but it does make the glue a little more like plastic and the glue will keep for a couple extra days rather than going bad almost overnight. Refrigerate to keep longer. You can use a teaspoon of salt for the same reason, but i find it dries out my hands. Cheers & happy sculpting!
@@ReallyMimi the biggest reason i share this recipe where i can is because so many crafters and artists, in all their different recipes these days, seem not to know (or pass on) about activating the flour's gluten with heat to bring about it's natural stickiness. My recommendation.. Set aside just an hour that you're determined to be creative with paper mache..let it turn into more... Halloween time is the best time. I love sculpting with paper! These vintage pumpkins are just the cutest!
@@xmobile.I do prefer the white glue recipe anymore vs the flour. It seems to be ultimately more stable and easy to batch mix and use for months. Can also be used as a base for paper clay.
Aiden, I'm so glad your video popped up on UA-cam! I've been wanting to make these vintage containers. I also didn't know I could use air dry clay. Best of all, you are quite an artist and so good at teaching!😊❤ ❤ ❤
I've never done these with clay, I've made them with papier mache. These are BEAUTIFUL, you are EXTREMELY talented. Edit: I normally super speed up a lot of tutorials because once I understand the concept, I want it to move on. Your speeding this up and doing a voice over was perfect for me and my ADHD brain.
Aiden, you are adorable and quite a talented artist. I love your tutorial and being someone who bleeds orange and black, I simply must give these buckets a go. Thank you so much for sharing your art and your processes.
These are by far the best vintage Halloween buckets I’ve EVER seen created! You have incredible talent and I’m so grateful you shared this. I’m also super jealous! I wish you much success and happiness in everything you do. 🎃
WOW! These are amazing! I love the vintage style. I was around, as a kid, in the 1970s and they really reminded me of the decorations back then. My favorite is the cat. 🎉❤
You are so artistic. I wouldn't have thought of using a common balloon to create a surface for coloring awesome Halloween designs. You are by far my favorite channel and I look forward to your show every time my subscription Belk rings. You're the best!😊
I have watched a lot of crafting/art tutorials, live, recorded, and in person-cause that is the way it used to be and I'm old (not a bad word). This sir Aiden is the best tutorial I have ever participated in. I feel like I could now go do this myself. Now, I wish you could make videos for the workplace.
I really enjoyed watching this. You have a great voice for narration, calm but still expressive. If I hadn't watched you make these, I'd think they were genuine vintage items. So cute!
You are so easy to follow, and such a soothing voice. Love the pace, not too fast and not too slow. You are a natural teacher… I am now subscribed and will probably binge watch 😅
I’m OBSESSED!!! Anything vintage Halloween gets me like a bird with something shiny…I gotta get at it! I’ve never tried anything like this but the way you painted those is TRULY AMAZING. Got a new subscriber 🎃
Another way to build the structure is to use papier mâche, it might be a little easier to layer on and the newspaper helps really strengthen it👍🏼your project is super cute!
From one artist to another I have to say I’m just floored. Your style is fantastic. I’m impressed by the way that you create their facial expressions. Those are hard for me. Your moon person is SO neat.
Love your art style!! These vintage buckets look absolutely amazing, I would snatch these up so quick in a store. Also, love your vibe. Happy Halloween! 🎃
Aidan you are awesome... very cute buckets! Love them. 🎃 I was so bummed when I found your channel and saw that you hadn't posted in forever and then literally a couple weeks later you came back and started posting again! Please keep it up, love your channel's content! ❤
Thanks Aiden, You are so talented! I love the vintage halloween buckets, but they can be pricey. Now I have the inspiration to make my own! ❤❤💕 Your painting skills are AMAZING!
I love this clay. No one works with this anymore, but I have done many projects that are more than a decade old, and they do not have a single crack or chip. It gives a less smooth texture, but I love the vintage look and that is exactly what it gives me. Cannot beat the price either.
I'm delighted your video popped up in my recommended viewing list. Your creations are impressive. You certainly are a talented artist. You are very easy to listen to and your instructions are clear. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing craftsmanship.
You are a very talented young man, and you did so good putting this together. I was shocked when you said it was your first time. You explained the process like an old pro, so I am looking forward to your next project. Those look like some that my great grandmother made from paper mache when she was young, around 1875/1900. Your's are absolutely the best I have seen, and they each had a different personalities. You behaved like you just gave birth to triplets. They were each your very favorite one. There is the saying: You will never work a day in your life, if you love what you do. You are going to have a good future ahead of you if this is how you want to spend your life. I am a 73 y/o great grandmother now, and this is the first time I have seen these made. I'm a fan!
You are so talented. The faces are absolutely mysterious. They have a definite personality. Thank you for doing this video. I think I’m going to try it. Wish me luck. 😂
I love your passion Aiden. This takes me back to crafts when I was in elementary school in the 60s. My Bday is a week before Halloween & it's my favorite holiday. Great project...🎃✌️
This video is amazing, the sense of calm it brough as I listen to you explain in your gentle and affirming way, the soft music in the background is perfect. I listened to this while I was doing some work and it calmed my mind. Thank you for sharing.
I love the moon. I do love how the face looks as well. I think I’m on the fence about the color for my personal preference because sometimes the moon is glowing that orange color, especially in autumn but I also feel like it’s that gray blue. They’re really beautiful.
I would never have suspected this was your first tutorial. I had my doubts about the balloon method working but you addressed all my concerns and made it look easier than I expected. I will probably go the paper mache route if I can commit to making one. I see you managed to make crater textures on the moon face. Love it, I hope I can stay as calm as you while I’m working. That’s why I won’t chance the powder clay! 🌝😸🎃
I did something kind of like this before a few halloweens ago…only I did paper Mâché not clay. I love your work and how thorough you are with your instructions. Thank you so much for sharing!❤
I am so delighted I found you! I enjoy papier-mâché and paper-clay, and I love vintage Halloween. Yours look more authentic than many DIY versions I have seen. I will be doing some of these very soon!
