You really can't. Anything can be inside the pages beyond the cover. It could be a plain fabric bound cover that just has the title on it, but inside could be the most absorbing tale you've ever read. It could also have a flashy, bright, artful cover promising adventure and fancy, but be boring as shit.

I can relate to the Mc with how he interacts with his girlfriend, but I do that with my friends (most are girls) in a friendly way. They always tease me too and I tease them back. I am also very physical with hugs and all, so I'm comfortable.
