this is one of the songs that took hank a short time to put together but about 30 years in the in he business to make it one of his best. he is and always will be my favorite singer, song write, and guitarist. god bless hank Jr.
Hank hit this theme one more time in his young career. In 1975, on the Hank Jr. and Friends album, Hank wrote "Brothers' of the Road". Although it has a more odd composition than this one that was sort of a product of it's time, which made it sort of Brady Kids sounding in a sense, it was likewise just as creative and original sounding as this one; but it adds another element this one doesn't have. In that tune, Hank not only shares with us what it's like to be on the road, going town to town, but also sort takes on the role of spokesman or a leadership position for all touring musical acts of all genres; and keep in mind, in 1975, he would have been 26 years old; he is only 22 or 23 here; just like his father, you wonder how such a young person could write such words that seem to come from a very experienced mind... "brothers of the road all share the same load" and it doesn't matter whether you're "rock or country, blues of funky". Hank was a great talent, but could have been more if he'd stayed more serious about his career and the product that he put out there, and if he had stayed with the things he did best and what his growing fan base wanted from him back in these days. Writing about his own plight, condition and overcoming the odds against him; writing that uplifts the south and rural America; writing to promote law, order, and justice and uncommercialized music; and singing with that wonderful voice he could produce when he really tried to do well with his own ballads and those written by others as well.
Would you believe he was only 16 when he wrote Standing In The Shadows? This man is tremendously underrated! To write a song about his father like that could only come from the talent of a Williams!! Genius
I don’t care what anyone says but Hank Jr is one hell of a songwriter. Why he’s not in the Country Music Hall of Fame is rediculous. Over paid cover singers like George strait, Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks n Luke Bryan don’t measure up to ole Bocrphus
This song is technically what I rate as pre-rowdy even though it has alot of post-rowdiness sound to it. I rate pre-rowdy as everything HWJR did before the album "Hank Jr. and Friends" in 1976. Unlike many fans, I don't divide the two careers of Hank Jr pre and post the "fall in Montana", which was later in 1975, because technically he did the "Rowdy" kind of album, "Hank Jr. and Friends" before the Montana trip and before the bad accident. I feel like that if you examine his career and look at only the pre Rowdy music that Hank recorded from 1964-1974, that he would still be one of the best country male vocalists in history. Go back and listen to all those singles released and see if you agree? To me, especially from 1970-1974, they are really well sung songs even though many of them were covers or original songs not written by him. He still sang them much better than many of his contemporaries at the time.
Gregory Faulkner Bocephus is one of the best ever. He doesn't get the respect he deserves. He should be in the Country Hall of Fame. He was the biggest country act in the 80s hands down. I love all his music pre-rowdy and post-rowdy.
@@matthewscott8692 Oh he has definitely gotten plenty of recognition over the years. He had a bunch of platinum selling albums, he won several Grammys, even had an entire TV special on CMT to honor his music.
Totally agree Gregory!!! You know, Waylon once said, that Hank, Jr., Was one of the best Blues singers in the World,. and consistently, on any given night, make his Daddy look like a share cropper when it came to singin'!!! Hank, Sr. was , to me, more of a country poet and wrote some of the finest songs ever!! Jr. has always been a great writer and great musician and entertainer in general!! Totally different styles! Love the late 60's to mid 70's stuff that Jr. recorded,. that allowed him to show his vocal ranges and enunciations that were always spot on!! Stuff like:. Prides not hard to swallow,. Eleven Roses, Rainy Night in Georgia, All over but the cryin',. among many others. Guess my favorite album will always be " Habits Old And New"!!!! Came out about '80 or so!! Greatness!! Went to first Hank, Jr. show that same year @ Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas, Tx. I was a Jr. In H.S. and loved every minute!
i'd say starting in (1970) is when he really started experimenting his music and trying to decide what he liked best or could go as far as he was allowed to at that time.
I wish UMG would re-release all of Hank Jr's 1970's Albums on to CD before his fall off Ajax Mountain,MT in Aug''75 with all original Album artwork and new liner notes. Some other UA-camr has this song with pictures of Hank Jr in the early 1970's. Peace.
and his 60's albums as well i want it all even the b-sides and all the singles he put out as Bocephus some of them he put on that box set but not all of them
This is a great (although all of Bocephus' songs are) lesser known song of Ol Bocephus'. I actually own this album. I found it at a flea market/antique store
Real Country Music right here!
Listen up kiddies, this is country music. The stuff they feed you on the radio now is pop with a banjo or steel guitar thrown in to fool you.
yeah or a big flop like garth brooks
Edward Davis Garth Brooks ruined country music
Hell Yeah!
I'll say it, "SHIT".
oh look,. the first person to ever say this....
Hank has amazingly performed more songs than almost any other country singers! I still love me some Jones but hank is the man!!
