Shimla, beautiful Hill Station, The Queen of Hills, capital of Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, once the summer capital of British India, is spread across seven hills in the northwest Himalayas. It is the capital town of Himachal Pradesh. Trip was with family and we visited during summer this year, in April 2023.
Shimla was a great choice for a summer getaway. Temperature was perfect between 20 and 10 degrees. Though it felt bit cold after sunset, was very well manageable with a layer of jacket or sweater.
The evergreen forests, rolling lush valleys, grand old buildings of colonial heritage of Shimla will surely transport you into a Scenic escape. If you just plan for a day or two, you will surely feel rushed and not enough time to feel the vibes of this beautiful Hill Station. Our trip was for 8 days visiting Shimla, Annadale, Naldehra, Mashobra, Kufri, Chail, Sadhupul, Dharampur and Kasauli.
We stayed at Hotel Springfields - A Heritage Palace Shimla for 4 nights, at Kainaat- A Riverside Homestay Sadhupul for 2 nights, at The Fern Surya Resorts Dharampur for 1 night.
In this Video, I am covering few places we visited very much in and around Shimla. I will be adding more Videos to cover other places we visited.
The Army Heritage museum is located in Annandale suburb of Shimla. Museum is surrounded by lush green trees. Drive to this place itself an experience with excellent scenery around. There is no entry fees to see the museum. You will need to show your ID to enter. Museum is well kept and showcases the rich history of Indian Army very well. You can learn about many Indian warriors, battles and various important events. Annadale ground is right behind the museum and watching the full greenery on this large ground is so peaceful.
Himachal State Museum has sculptures, art collections and paintings. Showcases the history and heritage of Himachal Pradesh. There is an entry fee of Rs 50 person.
Indian Institute of Advanced Study also known as Viceregal Lodge is a beautiful colonial building. On 2nd highest point of Shimla, Viceroy's home prior independence, Rashtrapati Niwas after independence, now Indian Institute of advanced study. Open 9 am to 5 pm, taxi entry fee for dropping is Rs 40, and again picking up Rs 40. Entry fee for the tour inside the building with guide Rs 100 per person, or to just walk around the building and garden outside is Rs 30. We spent little bit of time outside. It started raining that day, hence couldn't fully explore. Building is very beautiful and being on top of the hill, surrounding scene is awesome.
Mall road in Shimla is a hangout point and happening place with shops, cafes, clubs, banks etc. in beautiful heritage buildings constructed during British Colonial Rule. A perfect place to hangout with family and friends. Vehicles are not allowed on this street which makes it so ideal to stroll around any time. Cafes serving delicious delicacies are numerous. Various spots to simply sit and relax. Town Hall, Scandal Point, Kali Bari Temple, The Ridge, The Church all are at reachable point from Mall Road by walk. There is a lift operated by the Himachal Tourism Development Corporation which connects the main road with the Mall Road. Lift costs Rs 10 per person each way.
The Jakhu Temple is on the highest point of Shimla. The tall Hanuman Statue situated here can be seen anywhere in Shimla. One can reach this place by walking through the steep road from the Ridge, or a ropeway from the Ridge. A taxi can take you there driving through the steep slopes. We visited this place by taxi while on the way to Kufri. A beautiful temple, huge Hanuman Statue and the serene scenery at this highest point of Shimla is not to be missed.
