- It's finally here. The all new v5 Ibis Ripley. Five years in the making it's time to show off the next generation and it's lookin' REAL good. I gotta say after only a short time on the bike I think Ibis has hit a home run with this one. The change to 130/140mm suspension lands right in the sweet zone of what I think the perfect bike should be.
Thanks for taking time to watch the "comedy guy" talk about a bike for 6 minutes. It's a first for the Calirado Kid channel but it's something I hope to do more of in the future!

The word is that it no longer CLIMBS as ZIPPY and as LIGHT as it used to. ITs heavier, all the gains are downhill, plusher and smoother, but no longer the sporty, zippy, nibble bike it was, especially uphill. Surprised you did not mention that.
Why would they worry when they have the exie now? You can built an exie at 10kg and climb even faster than a Ripley.
I have a v2s ripmo and it climbs like a goat. And the new Ripley is still lighter and has better climbing geometry than the v2s ripmo.
I’m excited that the Ripley v5 is a true all-mountain platform now. It’s what I’ve wanted.
It's the new Ibis santa cruz one frame to control costs?
@holc123 - totally different shock placement, *_IF_* you were asking about Ibis & Santa Cruz being the same frame - I seriously doubt it.
@@JAFO. no kidding they're not the same frame, but Ibis is moving closer to SC's design ideas of centering slightly more on descending rather than climbing. The linkage designs, chain stay length, tube lengths, etc etc matter more than shock placement. The low shock placement of the sc is niced, IMO, because it places the center of gravity super low for better bike control.
@@JAFO. also, Ibis is saving massively by only having to produce one frame for the ripley and ripmo. The industry is hurting after covid sales are gone. That's what i mean by "one frame to control costs."
I had the v4 Ripley and loved it. Surprisingly plus for "just" a 140mm fork'ed bike. This new one would make a perfect trail bike when I'm not hitting the big enduro trails. Nice job, Calirado!

Thanks brother! Only problem is that I make them every 6 months so UA-cam doesn't know what to do with them...then nobody watches them...then I stop making them. 😂 Gotta start being more consistent. Which means I need WAY more spare time.

If you like this Ripley, you would LOVE the v4s. The v4s had a slight change in the rear triangle, a tad wider vs the v4. Do yourself a huge favor and ride the old model. V4S> V5. The v5 is rad though 🤙🏻

I haven't ridden Darrington (Salmon falls) in years! 😢

I had some real weird health things happen and haven't been able to really breathe for about 7 years - until I got some excellent drugs recently and now I'm trying to get back into it ,
but man I used to ride Darrington 3 to 5 times a week all through the mid to late '90s & into the early 2000s,
but I don't think I've tasted that dirt since '03. 😮💨
Oh man. Sorry to hear that. I love getting out to Darrington when I can. Especially sunset rides. There's NOBODY out there. Have the whole place to myself!

The heatube angle is like in Cube Reaction TM(Trail Motion) around 67-65 degrees (Canyon Stoic has even slacker) and XM - its M\L on normal bikes.
Its low sit position allow to rider be stable and angle to provide more stability on those speedy trails, that in US called Flow trails.
But its a sick bike tbh

I feel like were just overlapping models and calling it new? Ripley V4 was the bike to get for most peoples local trails. I don't quite understand this new model. This new Ripley is way to slack , heavy and seems to be having an identity crises. Ibis could have kept the same geo as the last model and still sold a boat load with the new frame design. As it sits right now, the trail bike to get is the SB120 or Trail 429.
Can you please demo the Tallboy? I love your review. I feel like this Ripley is Tallboys direct competition but who did it better?

New Ripley is heavier and sluggish. No longer a fun, snappy bike
@scsolo9666 yep..Went with an allied bc40 because of this trend ..130/120 at 26lbs on an XL ..Rides like the old Ripley but a bit more capable.

Since it has almost an identical design to the revel rascal, yt jeffsy, new stumpjumper, canyon spectral, I assume it probably rides exactly the same as them and the hype around this is laughable?

Yea that's the ol' new bike release cycle. There's embargos until a certain date/time so everyone drops at the same time.
How does it compare to your Rascal?
This thing is SERIOUSLY good. But I've definitely gotta get some more ride time in to tell for sure. My time with it was limited just because of how much filming I had to do. And the heat really limited what I could do. So damned HOT outside!

Fair enough. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the bike for a few days and between work & family was able to whip this up to show off the new features. But I'm sure it'll be worth the $11 UA-cam pays me for the vid. 😂
