To anyone who is starting out in astrophotography and are learning the post processing aspect, save this video. It will be a go to guide that will help you immensely.

I am just starting out on astrophotography and this is the best video for dslr nebula processing. The first time around I thought it was too involved, but I now appreciate the effort and the results obtained. Thank you!

I have to say Walt, you and Nico from Nebula Photos are the 2 that i follow and watch almost daily.. Nico is great with reviews and equipment and explaining principles. He does ok with processing, but you....your videos are the ones i watch for processing. They are absolutely the best, easy to follow procedures on processing data, especially using lenses. I especially liked your top 10 equipment video, it really gave me a goal list. I think the big names on youtube each cater to specific areas of astrophotography. You are the best at processing, Nico is great at budget equipment reviews and explaining theory, Trevor from Astrobackyard is excellent with the higher end and higher level astrophotography, and Rory is great as budget and entertainment. Helena is basically a combination of Trevor and Nico, and there is a brunette girl, i cant remember her name - age is killing my memory - but she also has some entertaining walkthroughs.
Edit: The brunette is SarahMaths on youtube.

Walt, your method of teaching is infectious. Thank you so much. I plan to use my 75-300 kit lens this winter to photograph the Witch head and this will come in very handy.

You can get some great data on the Witch with that lens! Consider getting a bahtinov mask for it so you can nail focus. If you can get two to three hours on it you should have good results! Good luck and clear skies!

@@deltaastrophotography thank you. I do have a Bahtinov mask. But to hold it steady on the lens hood is a challenge in in itself. Lol. What was your focal length at? 100mm on the kit lens? Would you recommend a 135mm prime for this or it’ll get too tight? And also what f-stop would you recommend? Thanks.

I most certainly need to re-visit my Witch Head data. Whilst I always use Starnet v.2, I have once again learned so much here again. I particularly like your use of star masks in the early stages when you apply curves, to avoid bloating and exposing too many stars. I also love the way you identified the ‘blackness’ of the ‘witch’ and concentrated the curve stretch on that alone. The result was very clever. Thank you once again for sharing what you do Walt 🤝

Damn, have watched this like 4 or 5 times , so good. so much to learn and the ability to suck out that detail is insane . Now I need to lock it all into memory and go back to so many old data sets and have another go at them . Thank you so much for this , you are a legend. Keep up the great work.

I've enjoyed your videos and I've learned a lot from you. I hit the subscribe button today because I appreciate the simplicity of your tutorials. I'm new to this astro stuff but I've had some success on the milky way, orion nebula, pleiades, and andromeda with my star adventurer and my canon 5D III and 100-400 lens. The witch head is my next target and your processing tutorial has given me some more motivation. Thanks and stay spacey!

EDIT: Absolutely amazing! You went through everything thoroughly and showed a few options in simple to follow instructions. This is definitely being add to my Astrophotography Post Processing folder. It is going to be my go-to for when I start doing post processing.

This will be so good to print and hang on my astroroom. Just order a Redcat, and the gti startracker, so i will now have a very nice wintert incoming. Hey Walt. Are you gonna try to image some of the lunar eclipse on Tuesday? Are you in EST, or CST? I probably won't get to see the end of totality, but I will see the beginning so I'm gonna get some images of that. I'm probably gonna be up all night anyway, because of how excited I am to vote. I got loads of images of the eclipse back in May, so if I don't get a lot this time, I won't be too upset.

@@deltaastrophotography I know I am a little ways away from you, here in NC, but it seems to me that there have been very very few nights worth trying to image. Is it just me or are you having the same issue? I mean, around here, it is usually clearer at night, once the sun goes down and the temperature with it. But lately, and by lately I mean the last 5-6 months, it seems to be clear during the day and THEN, the clouds pop up at night. I'm used to evening thunderstorms during the summer, but it used to clear up shorty after the thunderstorm rolls thru. I hope winter clears up.
