Another will it run!? Yep. This 1994 Mazda Miata has been off the road since 2013(Carfax verified!) and was offered at Copart as "enhanced" which meant it didn't run or drive, no title/parts only documents and of course, being a Miata, I bid on it.
As with all cars we get in, we do our best to get them running and having a yard with a bunch of Miatas I have all of the parts it could or would need to run. With only 86K miles, I had a buyer lined up for the engine if it wound up being good so the objective of this video was to make it run.
Why am I doing this? My name is Eric and I own and run a full service auto recycler called Importapart. We specialize in niche market vehicles like this and we fully test everything we sell. Selling an engine with a warranty is great and standard practice for this industry but feeling good about selling engines and other parts because we KNOW it runs and tests good is the main objective of the business. Time machines don't exist yet so I try not to waste anyones but my own.
I hope you enjoyed this video. There are a few others like it on the channel so don't be afraid to search.
As always I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism. Catch you on the next one!
-Eric
I'm disappointed that Blue didn't make an appearance.
I'm thinking blue needs a hot little red handle girlfriend.
I think about Blue all the time, in my daily life. I see something and I think, If only Blue were here..."
How do you think he gave it the motivation to run off screen?
This is like Batman without Robin...
Blue would have been able to start it
Years ago I dated a young lady whose father had bought her a 94 red convertible Miata. She and I drifted apart but I've always missed her beautiful Miata.
Should've kept it tight in the bends...
I knew that girl and can vouch.
The fact that you recognized those ML headlights in the trunk almost instantly really shows your experience with the 90’s and 00’s era, and I dig it. Great video man!
Nice job bringing her back to life. You know your engines, electronics and tricks.
I genuinely hope there's a special place in hell for the person who decided it'd be a good idea to replace oil pressure gages with idiot lights.
I bought our family's old 02 S10 and it has been SO nice to actually see the oil pressure now. In my previous cars I just had the oil light
@samoliver3242 I had the family S10 too, a 91 short box with a 4.3L.
Cost, plus people don't understand numbers these days.
And water temp gauges for a red light saying "call the tow truck I'm done we have melted into a blob
@@twillison8824 mines a shortbox 2.2. slowest thing ever, but fun to drive
Dude, your videos are awesome, keep it real
Eric, you are the Miata whisperer! To reserect that engine while filming with one hand was impressive!
I was yelling fuel pump relay at the screen because I had 97 Miata that I let sit for years and had to go through the same steps this is a great instructional video keep them coming it would've been great to have when I got my Miata going. Love the channel keep up the great work.
A 30-year-old Miata. Have they really been around that long? Man, I'm old. (Good work on the car, dude! You're an inspiration.)
I have a 2000 Corolla with 210,000 miles on it. It is truly a beater with a heater. It is my first beater car, ever, where the air conditioning still works. In fact, everything on the car works. Personally, I'm a big Honda fan, but Toyota has really impressed me the last few years that I've had this car. In that sense, I'm not too surprised that your A/C still works.
I think, Mazda and Toyota have similar design philosophies, except that Mazda makes cars more fun, while Toyota - more reliable.
Had a 98 Corolla up to about 5 yrs ago when it was totalled by a pickup truck. 5 speed manual was fun to drive and got 32-33 mpg around town, 38-39 highway.
Toyotas just need basic maintenance to go the distance. They are "cheap" and affordable.
Got 229,000 miles on my 2013 corolla right now lol
My 07 has 212k. Hope to take it to 300k.
its truly a shame this got scrapped. Awesome video as always!
You are the Miata whisperer thanks for sharing great video
A simple recipe of a man and a car that is quality entertainment, please never change how you do these will it run vids or the engine teardowns it's all very watchable
Speaking as the owner of a 2010 Miata with less than 80K on the clock, I approve of this video.
I do cars + miata = the best videos
I do Miatas
I had a '93 and a '96 and boy does this bring back memories (currently have a 2010)
I bought a Alternator for a 93 Miata from you. Works great! I bought a little red 93 for my daughter. I was insistent that she learn how to drive a standard. Love watching your videos. Keep up the great work.
Eric, more of these getting Copart buys running please. I always learn something from these troubleshooting videos where the tear downs are more predictable (they didn't change their oil). The tricks you use on these are just awesome.
Love the hammer trick. Getting chemo today so "Thanks for making me smile today".
Chemo 😢
I wish you the best.
I don't understand, where were you hammering to free up the injectors?
Will it run?
Obviously
Will it run well?
That's the exciting bit 🤣
as a guest been enjoying your videos did not thunk that miata would start even with that gas in tank and the wiring how you figured that out was amazing and the engine did not sound bad that was amazing thing to see you kept trying and did not stop till it started very impressive !!!!!!!! JRo
Resurrecting anything that would otherwise go for scrap is a worthwhile endeavor in my book. Your knowledge of these cars, and your expertise with a hammer and punch to cure a misfire, is both impressive and entertaining.
I’m no mechanic, but I am an engineer. I love your process for working the problem and knowing where the pitfalls are. As a Brit I am heartened to hear you use Jeremy clarkson as an example 😂
I want the water pump !
LOL HAH
As long as I can have the thermostat! 😂
Videos like this make me miss my 93 NA MX-5/Miata even more. One of the easiest cars to work on and one of the most satisfying to own and drive.
I sure would love to have another one.
I love the joy in your face when you get the last cylinder hitting!
You are a miracle worker, I want one . Reminds me of the MGB I had in the 60’s minus the reliability. Thanks ,you deserve success.
And the rattles.
I love that when the phone fell over, the cloud in the sky looked like a pig. The big pig mat in the sky is smiling down at you!
this dude got a car back running after over a decade.....with essentially one hand. bravo sir!
If I lived closer, I would love to work for you! I love your passion for cars and your dedication to things that most people would throw away and disregard is commendable and special in this day and age. Great video, as always!
Amazing that you could get that going. You got some talent.
I Do Cars, You're amazing! I hit the like button as soon as I saw it!
Glad to see that someone understands that things can have Value even if they are not pretty.
i think you understood the real sense of `recycling`!!! bravo. (BTW, anybody ever told you that you look like Adam Sandler?
Amazing how you know all the hacks to make it run quickly 🤣
Hi Eric! I can see why you like Miatas! My wife has a 2001 Miata. We park it for the winter and every spring it fires right up and seems eager to be driven. I have become a Miata fan as I taken care of the car over the years. Plus, it is a hoot to drive! I really like to see you do your thing with these cars! Thanks for posting this. I have been inspired to take my wife’s Miata for a drive. Don’t tell her though…
I have a soft spot in my heart for Miatas. Got to drive my brother’s used 90’s Miata even before he did. Red of course. Fun car. Thanks for the video.
I love these videos man. Watching someone knowledgeable diagnose this stuff is invaluable for guys like me that never had someone show them how to work on cars. Gives me the confidence and inspiration to hopefully one day save a broken bucket of my very own. Appreciate ya buddy!
I can't believe that engine is running so smoothly on that fuel. My lawnmower wouldn't think about firing on that goop.
It must be nice knowing the wiring harnesses well enough to figure out what an aftermarket install has done. I was replacing the radio in my CX-5 this past weekend, and I spent an unreasonable amount of time trying to decide where to tap in to power a backup camera. After the absolute hack job someone did installing audio stuff on my wife's old Miata, I am somewhat sensitive about terrible splices and the problems they can cause!
Agree - savinig usable parts from shredding is a noble cause.
Awesome. Thanks for the mid week video.
Excellence in hammer-tapping. Good job. Nearby Miata will tell you about, soon.
Eric, that thumbs up and smile made my day - THANK YOU!
long time fan from Australia.
I love the “will it run” videos lol
T harnesses are a thing now for alarms like 40 years after their conception. I would definitely recommend it over having a mess to remove the alarm in the future for whatever reason (usually dealerships complain). Also you should get a snack pack for all your efforts Eric! The dual flavor ones preferably!
Cool lunch time viewing
Thanks !
Great video! The fact that's basically running on varnish/kerosene is damned impressive.
Good save. The engine sounds great after sitting for so long. I think that the wires were tin coated copper, not aluminum. Although, the diameter was larger than would have thought would be necessary for copper wire. Then again, it doesn't matter. It funny that I had a 1973 Mazda and they used the same compressed bellybutton lint under the carpets back then.
I love my 94 Miata (1.8). Runs like a dream.
Just got my 323 GTX running after setting for 15 years. Forgot how much fun it is to drive.
I really enjoy these episodes. It's a cool look at everything taking place before an engine on a stand.
Very professional troubleshooting and repair. Looks like new exhaust and some lowlife stole the cat.
I'm impressed! Very nice job getting the old Miata running.
Those old Miata's are something else! And it ran pretty well on old, old gas too!
Thanks, Eric. It's good to see someone who knows his way around electronic stuff. Thanks for taking us along.
I love Miata. I have 2 customers with them and love when they come in.
Keep doing what you're doing Eric. Giving parts a second life is always better than the shredder. :)
Of all the videos you do, these types are by far my most favorite
A Hammer! That's a Chrysler repair tool! You can't use it on a Mazda!
It's OK, it was metric
@@Me-zo8yc And rusty. That's so it matches any MX5
Your smile after the percussive maintenance says it all!
I really appreciate your views on reducing waste, thanks for the great content 😊
Excellent work resuscitating that Miata!
It really is a waste when machines are condemned unnecessarily.
That happens way too much today.
I love hanging out with you. Thanks!
Thanks to this video, I will never worry about fuel stabilizer or stale gas again.
Hey Eric! Merlin’s Old School UA-cam posted a video 2 weeks ago where they pulled a boat and motor out of Lake Powell or was it Mead, by Las Vegas, been there 30 years under water. Cleaned it and did minimal to it and they Fired It Up. Top that!
Fascinating how you can bring it to life. I'm just floored.
Much enjoyed video from a Mazda owner of many years.
You are an amazing mechanic and vastly entertaining! I wish you every success!
These videos are honestly my favorites! Keep em up
Great job.
Engine?? Runs! Cha-ching!!!! AC System?? Works!!! Cha-ching!!!! and you know your fuel pump is good... Nice....
That top had stains, but it appeared complete??? If so, that's worth something....
I feel a lot better about the 2 lil surface rust spots on my 90 after seeing this one rusting even up above the fuel tank.
The power of the hammer has rarely been shown in such sparkling terms. Might be 20% huge iron bar though.
Nice save Eric! That hammer trick always makes me laugh.
Just frickin awesome in every way - you’re a recycling G.O.D but I just love your patience in methodically checking everything through.
I would’ve thrown a hissy fit within 2 nano seconds of trying to turn it over and gone running off sobbing to my mummy…!
If it hadn't worked, it could've been in a teardown video lol. Seriously glad that it lives on though. Love the videos man.
Another great video Eric. Glad you got it running. Only pity is, we never got to see Blue. Keep up the great work.
Never seen someone smack the injector before! Good idea!
Ever since I was a child I wanted one of these. I’m 45 years old so I remember when they came out
When I was a teen, in the 70’s, my friends and I would go to local yards with a tool box, a battery & some gasoline. Pick a car, (usually 1950’s or 60’s) and see if we could get it to run.
90% of the time, we had it running in less than an hour. Oldest was a Model A Ford.
Did it just for kicks. Yard owners didn’t mind. Usually they’d move them to the front of the yard with “Runs” soaped on the windshield.
Watching Top Gear UK, really helps out a lot during those 'hard to diagnose' times.. Best tool for a BMW owner is a hammer!
I love watching your content and admire your recycling principles. Keep it up this world needs more like you.
Great job young man, as usual
Brilliant work reusing stuff is mega...we need more people like you 🤗
Great video Eric! Keeping it REAL and keeping them alive. Makes me want to buy a Miata from you!
it's very satisfying getting and old neglected engine going for sure.
That was a fun video. A Miata expert bringing it back to life quickly. No nonsense.
Awesome video, but I miss the "malice in the combustion palace" and the water pump toss! 🤣
I have a '99 NB with only 32,000 miles. I use Eric's Miata vids as a reference for where to look if there's a minor problem, saves having to pull my car apart.
Ok, that was a freakin' miracle to see it run!
Top job Eric, 👍
impressive hammer skills - proves the old saying " If in doubt - give it a clout "
o7 Finding your niche car to keep off the road for other people is god tier work.Keep it up.
I love the video! It is great you saved the( still working) stuff from the landfill.
I had a 93 Miata and put a turbo kit on it and a few other items. What fun car to drive and work on.
This just increases my want for an older-model Miata (definitely -some- NA, because I want the pop-up headlights) whenever my '15 Abarth 500 has run its course.
Awesome! Love the tear downs but this was super cool and would LOVE more!
I've always been a fan of percussive maintenance
A win win for everyone. Love your videos. I’ve worked on cars my whole life and I can honestly say I’ve learned a few thing from you so thank you and keep them coming
Best kind of videos you do! I definitely would want to watch these more often!
These videos are great, also the yard walkabouts are good too, love seeing the stock america has as opposed to down under
Love the content man. Between the engine tear downs and will it runs videos, you got an awesome channel. Keep it up bro!
