He makes everything so clear and simple, he clearly knows what he's talking about and can explain it concisely. Great video!
Dude you rock! Clear concise and easily understandable.
thanks!
Suiperb explanation and demonstration. Its especially good timing as I've been in Italy for 3 months, and have a few Venetian scenes to paint myself, and landscapes as well. Even taking the photos, I felt some apprehension about starting to paint one, but this demo gives a reminder of how to start, and simplify, scenes that are so filled with details. Many thanks.
I love Paint Coach. He explained things so simple, and gives good details.
I appreciate that!
This is an excellent video on composition and simplification. Thank you.
Roughing out the entire painting loose is something very helpful I learned from your videos. Small details often also work simple and loose.
Even though I paint digitally your videos are so helpful. I like how you explain the concept and then show how to apply it in a real painting. This video in particular was great, and I also loved the techniques in "The 10 Painting Exercises That Will Help You The Most". You make landscape painting less intimidating, thank you for sharing!
I really appreciate how clearly you explain the thought process. As a beginning painter, I did not realize how much analysis goes into deciding what to include, or even that there was a decision. I thought you just painted what you saw. Now I analyze the paintings that I see to figure out what choices they made and why it works. Thank you for these insights!
Wonderful information! Love how you explain all of this. Really good teacher.
This was really good. Packed with great tips. Thank you for your kind tuttalitge.
Thank you! You are an excellent teacher!❤
Great tutorial. I've learned a lot. Thanks.
Glad to hear it!
Very well said. This is very helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
You are the best teacher I've ever seen. I always tell you this, but I mean it, too! I learn so much from you. Thank you for your videos!
Wow, thank you!
Excellent video! (One of many!!) Love the quadrant idea.
Another great video Chris!
I enjoyed painting this one and learned so much! First "street" scene I have attempted.
Well done, Coach
Fantastic! Holding onto this powerful lesson for reference. Question: Define/show “building up of surface” on a painting? Thanks!
Thank you! 😃
Great video, love the explanation and detail. Never understood this before about dynamic balance.
yes! glad it was helpful!
I like abstraction and very subtle contrast and super simplified composition - and you demonstrated that very clearly in some of the ways you showed values, dynamic balance etc - I really was attracted to some of your not finished paintings - so the last choice of details is very much a matter of the feeling 🙃🎵🤍🩶🎶
Thanks for this interesting video.
Thank You. I learned something important about composition.
Great! That’s what I was hoping for!
Very helpful, thanks
Thank you for your useful comments 🌸
You're welcome 😊
I comment as a satisfied customer having purchased Chris' online landscape painting course last year. This video was great for me as I evaluated my latest painting while following along. It's a painting that I really do like and I can see now how it would be even better. THANKS!
Wow! Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoy the course!
it must be hard to go life so handsom and smart
Very insightful. Practicing in grayscale (even with graphite, or charcoal) can help improve your composition immensely.
very helpful as always!
Glad you think so!
This is so helpful!! Thanks Chris🙏
I live in Yorkshire UK and its often cloudy and overcast 😏 but I still want to go out and paint! Any tips how to find a good composition when its a cloudy gray day? ☁️☁️☁️
Tnx!
Great video illustrating values
Thanks! I’m glad you got something out of it!
Thank you so much!! This was super informative!!!
24 Carat Gold dust . . .. . Nobody else comes close . . . . .thanks so much.
Thank you, Chris
I have learned so much from your videos. You are so easy to understand. My question is about moving from beginner to intermediate. I feel like I have so much to learn but watching videos for beginners keeps me at that level. Do you have videos to help move beyond the very basics?
It’s funny bc the more advanced I get the more I look to the fundamentals. Drawing, composition, value, edges, and color
So would you think about portraits in the same light ? ‘No pun intended’ when you said we should know what’s more dominant. The light, halftones, or the darks.
❤❤❤❤
Really helpful, thank you Chris. What program/equipment do you use to demonstrate with the digital pen? Thanks!
Photoshop
@@paintcoach thank you!
Can you demonstrate a good notan sketch next to a poor notan sketch - visually?
How do you know which colors to pick to achieve a certain value? Because if I want to achieve a dark value to have a good contrast... the value contrast between a blue and a yellow is insanely wide apart. And the same can be said for all the other colors. They all seem to have different values.
What software are you using to blur?
Photoshop
Do you paint with oils or acrylics? Do you prefer one over the other?
I paint with oils
