Floyd, Barney, Opie and Aunt Bee were characters in the portrayal of a small, idyllic American town called Maybury. Cobain used the show’s innocent setting to tell a twisted story of going to the barber for a shave, only to end up being held captive, then tortured, raped, and murdered by the locals. Using this platform, he makes a philosophical point, describing how people of the time whitewashed their ‘50s upbringing to the point of refusing to acknowledge real social issues of the time. Strangely enough, according to NME, police reports implied that when Cobain’s body was found, a nearby television was tuned to a station that aired syndicated re-runs of The Andy Griffith Show. Coming from that generation between the generation I always got the dark humor in this...Floyd the Barber and everything off Bleach was perfect (except the mixing, the drum and sometimes bass tracks could have used a little more gain on the board, imo). I think Nirvana did a lot of it in 1 take, which is why the transition from one song to another was so seamless...and how they cut the cost to just $600(or something like $606 and 17 cents, to be exact), by saving studio time.
I often loved listening to Nirvana songs in my youth as they were mostly depressing, but the Floyd one always left me smiling, what a brilliant random and funny lyric.
Mate if you could get some kind of permission from the Nirvana "owners" you could make an album and get some kind of royalties. You have done a phenomenal job. Maybe find a Nirvana contact and send a song or 2 and see what they say. I'd certainly pay for these.
