  • Pescarenico is a district of Lecco, located on the left bank of the Adda, in the stretch between the end of the Lecco branch of Lake Como and the small Lake Garlate. It is the only place in Lecco explicitly mentioned by Alessandro Manzoni in The Betrothed. In Pescarenico the writer located the Capuchin convent where Fra Cristoforo and Fra Galdino lived and from this village, near the mouth of the Bione (a small stream that flows in the area ending up in the Adda) Lucia left by boat to escape from the targets by Don Rodrigo. Also from Pescarenico is the fishmonger who will bring Agnese and Lucia news of their hometown, when they were refugees in Monza.
