When playing a legacy, do stuff like have the grandparents take in the kids for the summer or go on vacation with them, or let uncle and aunt take the kids for day trip etc. In my legacy, one uncle lives in Sulani, embracing the beach life, taking in all the niece and nephews over the summer and the grandparents make sure to take them to their cabin in Granite Falls during a weekend in the winter. It creates a bigger bond between the sims and definitely makes you attach to them. You can also add some drama into it easily!
I like the “No sim is perfect” tip. I tend to always make my sims perfect, that’s why I like to randomize traits during my legacy’s cause I don’t want them to always be perfect. That’s unrealistic
I feel like whims are great in theory, but they're too broken for me to focus on them without the Whim Overhaul mod. Like, you can have an ambitious and family-oriented sim who lives in a dorm and is one day away from their exams and they'll still only get random whims to buy a beebox (can't do that in a dorm) and a pool (also no) and cooking a meal (no stove). It'd make sense for them to get whims to call their family and get some studying done, but no. 😆
yea i feel like thats what keeps me playing the sims 3, whims are the best there and almost always make sense, it keeps me from being bored because i love fulfilling stuff and checking it off the list, so it feels good when whims that actually suit the sim are fulfilled ☺
The vanilla whim system is completely useless, it's abandoned and unsupported since 2018 anyway so I HIGHLY recommend the whim overhaul mod if you wanna play whim-based.
I have been taking pictures of my sims and it has REALLY enhanced gameplay in a way. It made my sims home feel more lived in and I remember crying a little when my first generation couple died after their last selfie together 😢
A few things I like to do that I haven’t seen you mention is 1) I have some of my families volunteer as a family on Sundays as a stand in for church or as a giving back family event. It’s nice having that moment away rabbit hole as well where you don’t have to micro manage them. 2) I have change my sims party wear after every party sometimes every other party they attend or hold 3) I give my sims multiple, usually 2, outfits in each category. It keeps them from wearing the same thing all the time and keeps you from having to make new outfits all the time. 4) When my sims are children I give them 2 outfits under each category but in one outfit I give them clothes more aligned to their assigned gender and one less aligned so I can start to feel out how they want to express them selves when they are older by which outfit they change into more. I also do that with clothing styles to get a sense of their personality. 5) I give my sims hobbies that they do casually that doesn’t have to do with a certain goal or making money per say. Just something to do for fun in their free time. 6) I dress them more age appropriately. When my sim first ages up to a teen from a child I dress them more younger and mix matched and as they age further in teen hood I up their style. I also give them braces, or acne, or ear rings at different points to aide in the storytelling and give them personality. 7) I make friend groups with clubs from get together and utilize those a lot in my sims childhood and teen hood. 8) I use my vacation days. It’s fun and spaces things up to go on holiday or go to a festival or something durning the week as a family or couple but using your vacation days and not just wait for the weekend every time. Just a few things to try. :)
Using vacay time is key. I use to forget about it easily, but I reminded myself its there to use so that you are not just chasing needs and going to work every sim day.
I personally love playing rotationally. Aging is only on for the family I am playing for a current sim week. I turn on NPC aging and progressions just for one week so that they age just like my sims. I have like 12 families, different sizes, types, hobbies, styles etc, they are descendants to the sims 2 pleasant view OGs! Would recommend.
Definitely agree that taking photos of Sims and putting them up around the house is a really easy way to enhance gameplay and connection. Even for a single sim this is great to do, because you can have pictures up of them, their friends, and their romantic partners.
I forgot to mention in my last huge comment, I sometimes I will also keep all my sims belonging and furniture when I move house like I would in real life and move into an empty house. I also move house with my sims jobs or interests which can spice up a lull in your play. :)
The family tree is so cute! It’ll definitely make me want to expand and work more on my families. And does anyone know what app/website she used to write down her backstory? It looked so cute and simple and I rly want to try it out!
Oh, yes! I'm guilty of completely forgetting they are there as I take my screenshots using reshade so when I open my normal screenshot folder I'm very overwhelmed.
i love taking pictures in sims 4, it is so good when you are just playing normally and u see a picture that u took and that good moment just comes back, aughhhh💗💗💗
I play on console (X box) So I don't have mods or cc but I can do a lot of stuff tho so my current family has done this so first on the weekends my kids and i go to somewhere fun like the free park or the beach or i go and send the kids to their fav grandparents house for 2 days and on weekdays the kids go to school/daycare and then I go to work or something and on vacation days we just sit at home and do fun things and on rainy days we do inside activities and on sunny days we go somewhere and we have A LOT of family pictures around the house :)

I like leaving the favorites blank (except for a favorite color) and clicking yes on every pop-up. To me it's a very dynamic way of developing their likes and dislikes.
I have multiple PSN accounts (I mostly play on PS4, though I also have the PC version) and I use their various saves to do all sorts of things, like have the same Sim marry entirely different people. In one of my saves, for example, Eliza Pancakes married Lana McKinnon, in another she married a living mannequin I found on the Gallery and moved with her to Mt. Komorebi. Multiple saves can definitely let you twist things up and take old characters in new directions.
What I do for my gameplay is, one of my mother sims are unemployed so she takes her pets out on little "dates" for example, sometimes she will take them out to the park, cat hotspots etc. When her. daughter gets home they also hang out at places. And sometimes when both mothers are home from work i'll invite the daughters aunt to watch her so the moms can go in dates! Its so fun seeing your sims bond together.
omg tysm for this video with also part 1 + 2. . ive been struggling with motivation with my current household//gen 2 recently so this helped a lot with the different gameplay ideas! 💗
Instead of families in different saves, I prefer a rotation all in the same save. I have a mix of my own originals, Sims 4 decendants, and Sims 2 remakes decendants I created in game, around 20 families in total I rotate. Every family gets about a week of play and I play on a custom long lifespan which allows me good time with everyone and no one aging faster than I get to enjoy them (mccc). I will selectively turn aging off for everyone at times. I tried different things and staggered aging on/off but prefer everyone in the world synced up as either aging or not aging. Remembering to give Sims… I don’t like to say negative but undesirable challenge traits and dislikes alongside likes and wants has def helped round out gameplay as well as the custom whims overhaul.

I just started a Scottish Werewolf Family for a Legacy Challenge. Two sims, recently married, immigrated to Moonwood Mill to avoid the war between Vamps and Werewolves. Lets see if I can stick to a plot for once lol
I have sooooo many saved files with soooo many different sims....even have a couple files for sims who I really like and want to move their lives in different directions........I have a family who I have photos of them all over...even with the babies being first born...pics with mom and dad too.....it has been so fun and cute..........I haven't really done much with the family trees.....
I’m a writer and artist so I looove seeing people put so much effort into their sims and even planning a backstory! I use the sims to create my character’s visuals and help me visualize and understand them more, plus it’s so much fun and gives me ideas to include in my stories! I love seeing my characters interact with each other, sims is a golden tool for artists
Another tip if u wanna (i tried it and its really cool) try making a teen to take care of a toddler. Its pretty cool!My toddler grew up very nicely and actually spent time i also put them into an apartament bc i had this backstory that their parents died.It was pretty cool!
I redesigned Agnes crumblebottom, gave her a hot farmer husband, and they have a gaggle of kids. their oldest is my legacy baby and I'm going to use the plum tree app asap to keep track of the family!

I have a save file where every Sim is paranoid and erratic, along with one good trait. Its hilarious. I basically turned the entire game into Strangerville.

I also try to fulfill the aspiration goals, career goals, holiday and event goals, and challenge scenario goals. -- I often make my Sims leave the house for various reasons, such as buying groceries, interacting with locals and neighbors and going on vacations. - I often write backstories in-game, even though the player can only do so for households/families. The Sims 3 would allow a household description for the whole household, as well as individual Sim Bios. The Sims 2 is the same as TS3 in that regard: you can write Sim Bios and Family Bios and even Family Albums. EA has never really brought back the Family Album system in TS3 or TS4, so boohoo. 😞
I find myself making my sims married, woohoo, give birth and just leave the games there because of simply boredom. And we use my grandma's PC, it's old, there is no other PC in the house, so we can't download high tech mods (Like just no mods.) And packs, we only have the vampire because the pets mod didn't load.
Have you seen the pictures of the sims' wishes/desires? those balloons that are on top of the photo of the sim, photos appeared where the balloon is different I don't know if it will only come in an update later on or by the way with the werewolves, it seems that some wishes/desires will be different in the photo I saw a strangerville icon appeared in the balloon
idk how old this video is but i personally have a lifespan bug where when i change the lifespan to any lifespan it still goes by the normal life span. its super annoying

@@josie.a.p There are many templates which you can use to create family trees which make the process a lot easier. I'll definitely miss plum tree app, though! It made making family trees seamless.
Do you use any mods? I did start a new save and i was thinking to turn it into a legacy and i had mods and i just stumbled across this video and now i wonder if i should take down my mods or not
I don't like that there's no random happenings anymore or consequences. You can get cheated on and nothing. No robbers. Hardly any random fires or things happening without you basically forcing it to happen. Remember turning into a plant sim when you gardened to much? The fears are the same thing over and over. Fear of dead end job after being promoted to the top of their career. Pregnancy should have cravings and back hurts and emotional. I just can't stand the lack of real life stuff happening that really doesn't effect the sims in a meaningful way. I love the decore and all the things you can actually choose to do, I just want more everyday events that can go wrong and actually effect my sim. And them being tense at all times or angry gets old when it's for the same exact things. I can't stand having a werewolf sim because they all hate being wolves it seems. Overall it's a really good game if you have an imagination. I wish I had the memory for CC. I don't understand why CC can't be downloaded thru the gallery? So everyone has the choice to use or not use, same with mods. Ugh. I could go on and on forever about this game.

I totally understand this! Whims can sometimes be very good but other times useless. I hope they'll update the whims, that would be amazing!

I really didn’t think to change the life span instead of pausing aging. I feel like that can make me get on with my challenges and gameplay a lot more

You just need to turn them on - whims haven't been updated in years so your game auto sets whims as off.
You can enable them in gameplay settings I believe!
I love giving Sims in one household likes an dilikes, so that everyone gets annoyed when one sims listens to hip-hop, beacsue everyone else hates it.
I think a lot of the fun things are locked behind the outrages pay wall I only own 4 packs for the sims because of how much they are
I just don’t like making back stories because then it makes me too attached my Sam and when I get too attached it often dies and then I get sad

I'm pretty sure it's in the game options but it's quite hard to spot! It's one of the check boxes. I can't think of why it wouldn't be there though!

@@josie.a.p There are many templates which you can use to create family trees which make the process a lot easier. I'll definitely miss plum tree app, though! It made making family trees seamless.

I don't like that there's no random happenings anymore or consequences. You can get cheated on and nothing. No robbers. Hardly any random fires or things happening without you basically forcing it to happen. Remember turning into a plant sim when you gardened to much? The fears are the same thing over and over. Fear of dead end job after being promoted to the top of their career. Pregnancy should have cravings and back hurts and emotional. I just can't stand the lack of real life stuff happening that really doesn't effect the sims in a meaningful way. I love the decore and all the things you can actually choose to do, I just want more everyday events that can go wrong and actually effect my sim. And them being tense at all times or angry gets old when it's for the same exact things. I can't stand having a werewolf sim because they all hate being wolves it seems. Overall it's a really good game if you have an imagination. I wish I had the memory for CC. I don't understand why CC can't be downloaded thru the gallery? So everyone has the choice to use or not use, same with mods. Ugh. I could go on and on forever about this game.
