You light the shamash first, then you recite the blessings and then you light the candles.Only on Shabbat do we light any candles first and then say the blessing. We do that because once the blessing is said the Shabbat has started and you may not kindle fire on the Shabbat.
@@aniyahdilovelilioness747 its not in scripture its just what i heard growing up many jews around me have called it both the feast of dedication and the festival of lights
Am I the only one that notices that practically NOBODY places the candles STRAIGHT AND UPRIGHT in the Menorah? It drives me CRAZY to see crooked candles!!! Otherwise this is a very good video!!
No. But it does drive me crazy that few of the videos mention that the placement of the lighting depends on how the menorah is facing- you or a window. (ideally it's facing outward).
I bought an electric menorah for my window. ( welcome to the 21st century) However, is it proper, or can the shamash be lighted/lit before actual Chanukah begins?
This guy doesn't read Hebrew (which is read right to left, English is read left to right). The mennorah is supposed to have the tallest candle in the center, the second tallest to the immediate left of center, the third tallest to the immediate right of center, the fourth tallest third from left, the fifth tallest third from right and so on, the reason for the difference in height of the candles is the order in which they are supposed to be lit. The shamash candle is supposed to be lit the day before Chanukah as a blessing of protection for the coming year, the first day of Chanukah you light the shamash candle and use the shamash candle to light the second tallest candle, on the second day of Chanukah you light the shamash candle and use it to light the second tallest candle and then the third tallest candle, on the third day of Chanukah you light the shamash candle and use it to light the second tallest candle, then the third tallest candle and then the fourth tallest candle and so on according to a rabbi I asked out of intellectual curiosity.

Thank you for this video, it was very helpful.
Happy Hanukkah
nice Menorah where did you buy it?
Do the candles completely burn out or do you blow them out after they've burned for 30 minutes after sunset?
You let them burn out and light new ones each night.
Great question
BUT I got a special one with the shamash to the far right. Do I start from far left then?
the Menorah are the 7 creations of God
What's the difference between the Menorah and the Chanukah?
Do you light the same candles that you used on the days before or put in new candles?
The candles burn down each night so you would put in new candles for each night. Happy Hanukkah!
Thank you.
do you light the candles before or after the blessings have been said? do you have to do it with your right hand?
You light the shamash first, then you recite the blessings and then you light the candles.Only on Shabbat do we light any candles first and then say the blessing. We do that because once the blessing is said the Shabbat has started and you may not kindle fire on the Shabbat.

One God, 3 branches, 7 spirits.
Uh, it's actually a hanukiah not a menorah. Either that or ha chag is really only seven lilot and not eight.
Can’t I say it in English??
Long live our King of Judah!
Wrong menorah.
Moses's menorah had 3 branches, not 4.

Jesus Christ is the Way the Truth and the Life no man cometh to the Father but by him, hallelujah he is the Messiah and Son of God.
I wish you would write the blessings here for us to follow.
