- Fisher Towers Trail, Long Canyon, Pucker Pass & Dead Horse Point State Park - Moab, Utah
So it's day 2 of our trip to Moab, and the list of things to do was pretty long. We eventually settled on Fisher Towers Trail to start the day. Now, I didn't do much research, I have to admit. I'd seen pictures of Fisher Towers and I wanted to check it out. But I thought it was just a roadside pull off. No. Not at all. Fisher Towers Trail is a 2 mile each way out and back trail with 1,400~1,600 feet of elevation gain (and loss). And it's popular and crowded. And absolutely beautiful from start to finish. Fisher Towers Trail gives great views of Fisher Towers, the Colorado River, the Manti La Sal Mountains and the surrounding Moab landscape. If you're lucky, you'll even catch some rock climbers working their way up the seemingly impossible towers. No permits required and it is a family and dog friendly trail...to a point. That point is the ladder along Fisher Towers Trail. We saw two groups turn around because their dogs weren't up to the challenge. So keep that in mind.
After Fisher Towers, we decided to head back to Potash Road and check out Long Canyon. Long Canyon is an off roading adventure that is still relatively beginner friendly under the right conditions. These were not the right conditions. It had snowed the day (and night) before, so Pucker Pass was a little more difficult than we were expecting. It showed us exactly how inexperienced we were as off roaders. But a couple locals showed us the lines, and we were able to conquer Pucker Pass and make it to the top.
The top gives great views and incredible campsites. We checked some out and then headed to our last destination of the day: Dead Horse Point State Park. The views from Dead Horse Point State Park were incredible. It was like a mini Grand Canyon.
And then it was time to head back to the hotel.
Moab. I already miss it. If you haven't been, make some plans and go. It is an absolutely incredible place.

Dead Horse was cool. We got to the point at sunset. Beautiful.
6/3/2024, just watched this video. Drove Long Canyon a few times in different vehicles, one being a one ton Chevy Van rear wheel drive. But that was back in the early nineties, looks like the road has deteriorated a tad bit.
Thanks for your videos. You do an excellent job of filming, editing and soundtrack. Makes me wish I was young again.
Gorgeous! Thanks! We're planning our road trip and altered it to include Fisher Towers.
We absolutely loved this trail. Highly recommended. Hope you enjoy.
I have been to Moab several times and have yet done the Fisher tower’s trail it will be next on my list of things to do Thank You
I was thinking I need to do that Fishers Tower trail after this too Tbone, looks like a blast! 😊
Amazing video! Really beautiful country, and great editing. I have to say, though, I dislike Moab these days. Too busy, and a weird vibe.
A 4Runner having trouble on a desert road?? Impossible!
Looks like a great say in a great place! Keep it up!
Gotta admit, that was driver error. I chose a bad line. Even the best machine requires a skilled pilot. Once I saw it done properly and copied the better drivers, the beast got me up that spot. I’m still learning, but enjoying the journey!
Your videos have inspired this 72 year old guy to get off his tail end and start hiking. Did Fisher Towers last month based on your video and absolutely loved it. Actually enjoyed this trek more than anything I did in Arches. One of my favorite hikes yet. Great video.
That's awesome to hear! And this is definitely an underrated hike.
Awesome job Jerry!
Yes I enjoyed fisher towers hike. I was back out there this last week and hiked an amazing trail in Canyonlands NP needles district. Peakaboo from squaw flat campground. 10 mi Round trip. One of my top 10 favorite Gilles-check it out for sure.
In 1964 Chevrolet choppered a car onto Castle Rock for a TV commercial just few miles from Fisher Towers. I'm from this area and we always called it Chevrolet Rock. The video is still available on the web.
I'm definitely going to have to look that up.
Tina is the bomb. Great video. 👍👍
Dude! Incredible from the computer screen....imagine x100 in person! Thanks for the vids....I now have more trips planned than I'll have time to accomplish, I think....
Too many options, too little PTO.
Funny the side step rookie just walked over the obstacle in front of you. 90% driver 10% vehicle. BTW 4runner owner here.
We definitely have more vehicle than experience. That dude made it look easy. But she made it.
REALLY want to see this place. Hopefully in February!
Moab is always a good time. I was really not expecting much from Fisher Towers, but we both absolutely loved it. Highly recommended.
Heading to Lee’s ferry today. Then Moab. Will make fisher towers this trip. Good work, thanks ( good music as always)
That was a beautiful day.
Deadhorse and Capitol reef are my favorites. You NEED to do the Schaffer Trail from the entrance to Canyonlands through Deadhorse to the Pot Ash fields. Beyond amazing.
Thanks for the advice. This one will go on the list.
Edit - Wait a second! We've done that. I think on this trip, actually. That was amazing.
Looked like you walked through the ruins of an ancient desert city. Beautiful!
Thanks Jerry. Glad that you and Tina had some time to get out and explore. I have Dead Horse on my list of must see parks when in Utah.
This is a bucket list item for me. Also, your videos are excellent, but I also learn about new music through them. Thank you 😊
Ahh man keep up the content this one is grand! Fisher towers are SO pretty. One of the best scenic places on earth in my opinion. The onion creek trail is incredible
We definitely need to check out Onion Creek. Fisher Towers was impressive. We weren't expecting much at all. I love those types of surprises.
You guys are so funny and entertaining. Great close up😏
Looks like perfect weather out there in the desert Jerry👍🏼, you two are always having such a good time hiking! Great couple💪🏼
On your next moab trip i hope you visit onion creek drive next to fisher towers.
Lots of recommendations for this. We'll need to check it out.
Dead Horse state park in Utah looks a lot better than the Dead Horse state park in Cottonwood Arizona, which I did a lot of mountain biking at...Great trip, Thanks for taking us along!!
Driven by that area quite a few times but I've never checked it out. It definitely couldn't stand up to Dead Horse in Utah.
This is such a great place, when I watched your video in Canyonlands and Corona Arch I meant to comment and tell you about this hike. Happy you guys did this.
This hike was awesome. Much better than expected.
That dirt road you look down on at 9:08? I drove it with my 1975 Ford LTD station wagon in 1987 because I was kind of crazy. The car performed well, as did I. I was on a solo road trip from Flagstaff, AZ to Mt Pleasant, UT for my 10 year high school reunion. Left my then husband at home. Went to Bryce, Arches, and Canyonlands on the way home, and spent several days camping and hiking in the area around Moab. Wish I could move there. Now, I am 64 and still kind of crazy. I think I could still hike the Fisher Towers trail, but my dog would have to navigate himself around the ladder, which he might could do because he is a Blue Heeler and is crazy like me. I have been watching 2 or 3 of your videos a day and am really enjoying them!
Another place to add to the travel list! Looks like it was a ton of fun for you two! 😊
Such a great channel and this vid in particular was truly awesome! Even more so having just returned from AZ/UT/CO/NM and specifically Moab, Flagstaff and all these places in this vid. Fisher Towers with the La Sal mountains as a backdrop was incredible, and Dead Horse SP, my goodness, truly one of the most amazing spectacles on Earth, more so even than the Grand Canyon I would say. Great channel Jerry and Tina, so addicted to your vids!
Awesome! I need to check out Dead Horse SP some day. Tina's been there, but when we went together it was closed due to snow.
Love the Moab opening . Found myself in your backseat trying to look through the letters like a kid trying to see were he’s going . Never been there . Magnificent blades of stone . We got to do it ! Bucket list ! Thank you Jerry and Tina!
Moab is awesome.
WoW .
So glad we found your channel! Love the content, the hikes, your interactions with each other. Keep up the great work! The new intro was superb
Love your videos
your music and photography is getting really good!
OMG! This was so awesome to watch! Your video and storytelling just get better & better.
Was there in early October. Guys were tightrope walking between the towers for the Discovery+ channel.
That's crazy. We saw some climbers up there, but a tightrope is a whole other level.
Adding it to my list! Beautiful area,Great weather!
Finally Tina is talking on camera!
It took almost a year for me to convince Jin LOL
Happy trails 👣 and keep up the good work Jerry 😊
I love when people say I should let her talk more and I'm like "I try! She won't talk." I know you understand my pain.
Be there in two months! 🥾❤
So, know this is an "older" video and probably won't see this post, but.... We love Moab! Started going there twice a year just after 9/11--20 years ago... Moab was just really getting noticed. We did all these now iconic hikes back when some of this stuff was actually route-finding and the jeepers hadn't taken over--nothing against the jeepers Anyway, Moab is always an awesome place, just have to find your own "speed".
Our trip to Canyonlands to backpack the Salt Trail really opened our eyes to how much there is to see out there. Any trail recommendations? We're eyeing the Slot and Druid Arch so far, but haven't made definite plans to go back yet.
@@JerryArizona Sorry for the very late reply. Life gets in the way sometimes. As you probably know, Canyonlands has 3 different districts: Islands in the Sky,, Needles and the Maze. The Maze is the most remote. Haven't gone there yet. We have made multiple trips to the other two. Other than Salt Creek, most of the hiking is day hiking. Although there are good opportunities for overnight trips.
***Islands in the Sky: (Near Moab)
*Syncline Loop--9 mile loop can be done in either direction. Fun thing about this is you can do it clockwise, and then go back later and do it counter clockwise and it feels like a totally different hike. Counter clockwise the elevation gain is more gradual hiking out.
*Neck Spring Loop--a fun little loop to get your hiking legs warmed up after a long drive
*Gooseberry Trail--starts same place as the White Rim Overlook--which is totally worth doing--amazing views. The Gooseberry takes you down to the White Rim. It is one of those trails that you follow and then look back and say "where the hell did we come from?!"
*For a late evening drive-up view you can't beat the Green River Overlook. Walking distance from the campground--which is one of our favourites, if you can get in. Only 12 sites, no water.
***Needles:
*Squaw Canyon-Lost Canyon loop--awesome hike that takes you over just about everything. Slickrock to narrow canyons to amazing views to creek side picnic spots. Take a day to really enjoy.
*Confluence Overlook-- an out and back not on the big popular hikes list, so much more quiet than many of the other hikes. But well worth it. Start early. A little bit of sand slogging, but lots of cool slickrock rambling and scrambling too. You can actually drive there with a 4WD HC, but the hike is so nice to do. Why go there in a noisy bumpy ride?
*So many combinations of loops to do. From both the Elephant Hill TH and the campground.
*Chesler Park Look to the Joint trail a good one
*Honourable Mentions: *Big Spring Canyon Loop. Starts at the campground and loops around to skirt the eastern edge of Chesler Park. Some very cool slickrock scrambling and a very large ladder. You'll know it when you see it. Have at least 3 pics of me on it. LOL *Devil's Pocket--start at Elephant Hill, turn north at the junction to Devil's Kitchen (a 4WD campsite good place for a picnic stop), then loop east through the Devil's Pocket, skirt the northern side of Chesler Park on the Chesler Park Loop Trail then back to Elephant Hill TH.
Druid Arch is cool too.
...And then there's one of our most favourite places to go: Capitol Reef.
nice! as always. We are not pro's at off roading either. We have a Lifted Wrangler Rubicon, got an air down kit and compressor. We air down to around 18 to 20 lbs, we have found that this really helps grip on that slick rock stuff you went up. Good for Dry Creek road in Sedona too. You two need to procure a Wrangler and do Broken Arrow. (good dry weather)Never a dull moment. I can see Jerry walking some of it LOL, Yikes!
Oh yeah great adventure Jerry and Tina looks absolutely beautiful. Hey Tina kick his ass for calling you an elitist. Lol. No sorry just good fun.
I'll pay for that comment, for sure.
How about Goblin Valley? It was very cool!
not sure if this is delayed and you're not in the Moab area anymore, but I've done a ton in that area. I would highly recommend the Joint and Druid Arch in the Needles District of Canyonlands (can make a big loop) and the Syncline Loop with some venturing into the crater in Island in the Sky. Morning Glory Natural Bridge is an easy one. Jeep Arch near Corona is good. The portal overlook is a good short one with nice viewpoint. The primitive loop in Arches is probably the best established hike in that park, and since you like canyoneering Elephant Butte is the highest point in Arches and has a couple 60' to 80' rapels. Hidden Valley is another good Moab area hike. The la sal mountains also have some good hikes which gives a nice change of pace from Moab/Arches/Canyonlands, including Mt Tuk/Peale (make it a loop) and then a loop around the Whole Enchilada/Clark Lake while summitting Manns Peak. I also enjoyed Natural Bridges national Monument and checking out Mexican Hat Rock, while camping at Muley Point over the San Juan River
also I agree with Tina -- for anyone who says Fisher Towers is the best hike they've ever done...they clearly haven't done a lot of hiking lol. I did enjoy the drive out to Fisher Towers though!
We’re definitely adding these suggestions to the next trip! Seems like we could spend forever in the area and not ever come close to seeing it all. Thanks so much for the suggestions!
Wow. Thanks for the recommendations!
Fisher Towers really is a great hike. When we were out there last, we did Arches Park, and just felt like it was a tourist trap. The next day we went to Dead Horse and had a lot of fun. Did y'all make it down to Newspaper Rock? That is a really neat area, too.
We didn't. Only Newspaper Rock I knew about was in Petrified Forest, but this is on the list now.
LOL I freaking love Tina. So subtle, so understated, so elitist 😂 ❤️ Can't wait to go on a hike with you two. Those were some epic places indeed, and excellent music selection! Jerry you've probably said this many times before, but what drone do you use?
I've got a Mavic Pro...last gen. I think they have the second one out now. Not sure if I'd get a Mini, Air or an FPV if I were in the market now. And yeah, Tina is pretty awesome. And there is no way in hell we could hike with you guys. We are WAY too old and slow.
@@JerryArizona Oh, that is interesting, we were looking at the Mavic Air - would you advise against it? And no way you are too slow - we would go easy on you guys!! 😂 ♥️
Watch out dude, Tina is gonna steel your show. You guys are awesome.
The guy seems like the type to be verbally abusive. I don’t like him
@@MichaelRichards983 Really? I hope you’re joking. I don’t get that at all, not at all.
@@corydriver7634 I don’t like the way he talks to his wife, seriously. Being an investigator means that I pick up on things others generally miss.
@@MichaelRichards983 Wow. I struggle to see where this perception is coming from. All I can thinks is maybe you don't understand our sense of humor, took a couple comments and decided to interpret them in a negative way? Tina and I are sarcastic and like giving each other a hard time. That's just who we are. Realize that this is a video edited to project a certain style and feel that's posted on UA-cam for entertainment value. You should also take body language and the overall story/picture into account as well.
But if you don't like me, you're not going to like me, and that's all up to you. I don't like everyone either.
I'm pretty sure she's always stolen the show.
Nice retina Scan of Tina there towards the end 🤣
Do you have the off road package on the 4Runner? I.e. rear lockers, a-trac, crawl control, etc.
Not on that 4Runner. She recently got a new one that has almost all the options of a TRD Pro though.
@@JerryArizona I love my pimped out TRD Off Road Premium. Takes me everywhere I want to go. They’re great vehicles.
Amazing as always! Was that a van at the top of the sketchy stuff?
Yeah, but you can get there off paved roads from the top. I doubt they took the route we did.
Did you do the Bighorn Overlook at Deadhorse Point? That's the best trail in the park. We did a video on that one you should check out.
Watched your video and it looks awesome. Next time we'll have to check it out.
@@JerryArizona Great! It would be a super easy one for you. Almost no elevation gain, no canyoneering, and no crazy cliff walking... It might just be TOO easy for you guys. 🤣
Great video. Did not know the existence of this place, just come across to your video. We are visiting Moab in early September, now I have to add this place to my itinerary. Are there multiple trails at the Fisher Tower? What’s the name of the trail you explored? Thanks
I believe it's just called 'Fisher Towers Trail' and there's only one route. (Out and back). Pretty easy trail and great views all along it.
Was it drone friendly site? I saw few clips from your Mavic. Great work. Just subscribed.
The parks themselves don't allow drones (I don't think). But Fisher Towers is on BLM ground so, as far as I know, drones are fine there. It's tricky with drones. And thanks for the sub!
@@JerryArizona that’s what I thought :)
Thanks Jerry and keep recording :)
Great channel.
Now I'm nervous to hit Long Canyon! Is your 4Runner 4wd and had issues with the spot going up? Watched another guys video and he said that my 2wd 2019 Ford Ranger w/ 33" Falken All Terrain's & a 2 inch leveling kit would make it easily - now I am not so sure haha. I do have recovery boards & a strap in case I do get stuck, would you recommend my wife & I hit this off road trail?
We don’t have much experience driving off-road. Two trucks came up behind us and showed a better line to take. I think it’s more about the driver than the vehicle. If I remember correctly, there was enough space to turn around if you didn’t feel like you could make it.
I like how clear the audio was at Fisher Trail. Did you use a GoPro with an external mic?
Just the GoPro mic. I've looked into externals, but they all have their quirks I can't get around. I do clean it up as best I can in editing. Sometimes it works out, sometime.....well, it's time for captions.
Hi Jerry. Do you think i can take my Subaru Outback on Long canyon road?
I would not recommend it. It's not bad most of the way, but the spot we struggled with is usually really rutted and tough going, especially going up. It's rough for a bit just after as well. Not sure you could get up it and pretty sure you'd bottom out if you tried going down it. Maybe look into Shafer trail; pretty intense switchbacks, great views and much more vehicle friendly.
@@JerryArizona thank you so much. Big fan of your work. Keep us inspiring.
you should do non music versions for those of us that just want nature.
I've thought about that. Those types of videos are really popular. But it's a completely different style and....well, I need to learn a lot more about sound design and adopt a whole different editing flow. I may give it a try in the future.
whats the name of the gps unit you have hanging from your pack?
That's the Garmin Mini. We use it mainly as a PLB and to communicate with each other when we go out solo. It has a GPS feature, but I always just use Gaia on my iPhone for navigation.
I keep meeting women who say they like to hike but then again they are always dealing with fake eyelashes and hair problems. Timmy C here on the the beach in San Diego.
