On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 8-4-23.
We're looking at a 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS Super Sport in Sierra Tan Paint. The car comes with the 396 CI V8 engine and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Tony Munao. Tony’s had this car since 2019. Tony shares his Brother Louis was a Mechanic and got him into cars. Sadly his Brother passed away. Tony saw this 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS like his Brother had so he bought it and started a restoration on this car as a reminder of when he and his Brother used to go for rides. GREAT WORK TONY! I’m sure your Brother is looking down on you from that Garage in the sky and pleased with the work you’ve done to this car that looks showroom new.
If you LOVE the “Trunk and Treats” here is a link to the full video of all the brochures • 1965 Chevrolet Chevy D...

that pleasure ride component is extremely rare lou, you very rarely see one. this 1965 is a beauty. he put his heart and soul into this vehicle for his brother. a very moving episode. thank you lou.
Hi sly 23, Happy to read you appreciate the rarely seen "pleasure ride" component. First time I've seen one. You're welcome, Lou
Awesome Impala and even better it's a 396! Thank you for sharing Lou.
Hi Zeke, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
My first new car was a 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS . Pure white 327 four speed 🥰❤️
Hi Robert, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your 1st new car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
I sold my 65 SS Impala in 2005. L-35 396, 4 Speed and mostly original. Went to a good man that restored it and I'm sure is still loving it that way it should be cared for... I always was addicted to those taillights. Thanks for another winner, Lou!
Hi Brett, Happy to read you had a cool car. Glad you like this "Winner". You're welcome, Lou
Awesome car. I felt like I was in the showroom - it was that clean inside and out.
High praise :-)
That's literally a brand-new car.
Keep these gems coming Lou. Love watching them.
Hi Michael, I'll do my best to "Keep these gems coming" :-) Lou
Beautiful restoration, without over restoring, GM didn't make show cars back in the day. Tony's attention to detail is amazing.
Hi Stupid Fast Truck, Happy to read you appreciate the work that went into this car :-) Lou
I remember in 1965 when these were new. Full sized Chevrolet’s were absolutely everywhere.
Hi Dave, Happy to read you remember these cars when new :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
This is such a beautiful ‘65 Impala SS. I love the color and the engine compartment is impeccable !!!
High praise :-)
My Uncle had the same car. Nassau Blue. Bought it brand new. I was always fascinated with the vacuum gauge.
Hi Mike, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Uncles car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Beautiful car. I learned something new I didn’t know they had pleasure ride back then.
Hi Czech Mate, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) I did not know about "pleasure ride" as a Dealer option either. We're both learning all the time, Lou
Well Lou you've finally have a car that I had the identical version of. I had mine back in 83 on the Jersey shore so no trunk or quarters but 396, and gold.
Thanks as always for doing what you do 👍👍
FINALLY! You're welcome Pat.
Great car, reminds me of my uncle's, '65 SS Impala, when I was 6 years old. Never, heard of the Pleasure Ride. 👍😎
Hi Uri, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Uncles car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Beautiful 😍😍😍😍😍 Thanks Lou!
Hi motorTranz, Happy to read "Beautiful" :-) You're welcome, Lou
GM’s finest moment. The cars, for years leading up to this, were also in this league. Pontiac was absolutely killer, along with Chevy and the rest, as well. The cars not only looked mind blowing, they were great driving cars and astounding values. Oh, how we never knew how good we had it. The profoundly sad thing is that cars could easily recover much of these values if the industry only had the courage to do it. After all, GM Mark of Excellence is only a brand name, right?
Hi Dan, High praise for "GM's finest moment" :-) Lou
Yes like my 67 Riv 🇺🇸👍
I’m got to add pleasure Ride, and Blow everybody away Buick 67 Riv ,Buick Plum coming soon TX,Wild cat console car
Although not one of my favorite cars, I have to say that THIS particular car is the absolute best restoration I think I've ever seen!
When I was a kid, one of my uncles had the exact same model, other than his had a four speed and no power windows... But same body style/color/ interior...
And he kept it meticulously! That's exactly how this beauty looks to me...
Hi Slick, High praise for this restoration :-) Lou
The Shipyard Island Marina pillows is the perfect touch to a perfect '65 Impala.
Great story well told guys.
Drive it with pride Tony.
Hi Scuff, Happy to read you enjoy the pillows :-) Glad to read you enjoy the story, Lou

Love this gold 65 Impala. Takes me back to my senior year in hs. Thanks for all the details you show Lou.
Hi Rich, Happy to read this car brings back memories of Senior year in High School :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
The 65 super sport was always special to me first one I ever seen was walking to school my neighbor had just bought a brand new one I was 15 years older to time and his was the 327 motor you could not get the 396 big block and the 65 Chevy till late in the year before that they were the 409W motor and the time they release the 396 they also made the caprice for the first time❤ GM was truly the mark of excellence in my book anyway not that Ford and Chrysler didn’t make fine automobiles but I predominantly have rolled GM all of my 70+ years
Hi James, Happy to read this car brings back special memories :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
From ‘65 and still alive! What a great Impala SS. Tony sure has a beauty in this
Chevy! GM at its zenith in style and performance.
Happy to read "What a great Impala"
Beautiful car! And a great seller for Chevrolet. They sold over a million full size cars that year. And I believe 109,000 of them were SS Impalas. 😎👍
Hi drippinglass, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Thank you for sharing the sales numbers in 1965 too, Lou
Lou my hats off and two thumbs up to Tony. Several things: 1. The amazing, awesome beautiful, gloriously gorgeous, magnificent, miraculous, marvelous, splendidly spectacular, stupendous, wonderfully wondrous restoration on that 1965 Chevy Super Sport. 2. He affectionately dedicated the effort job, work and time to the memories of his big older brother for caring, sharing, spending, teaching, tutoring and taking the time to show him on being an excellent and productive and outstanding automobile, automotive experienced engine and automobile auto body technician. 3. For being there for him as a big older brother which was very rare back in the day Lou, very rare indeed.
How much you want to bet Lou Tony’s Big Brother is not only looking and watching but he is also smiling at his Lil Kid Brother with Pride on the person and individual that Lil Kid Brother is today. Lou now that’s what I would call true Brotherly Love. Lou you’ve out done yourself with this video that hits really close to my Heart.

Beauty! I get being sentimental. My dad was a 55 Chevy fan. He died back in 71. Whenever I see a 55 I think of him.
Interesting you say 55 Chevy.....that is Tony's other car he restored so stay tuned and you'll see that car in a few months too.
I looked at one of these in 1980 or so near my house. It was a light metallic blue with a 283 and Powerglide. But I seem to remember the vacuum gauge being in the console. We had rust buckets in Ohio, but this car must've come from Michigan or New York or someplace with snow and salt all winter. It still remains as the only '65 full size Chevy I've ever seen, with the little bright metal rings on the tail light lenses rusted or otherwise corroded away!! Even as a kid, I knew that a bucket of Bondo and a few trips to the junkyard would've enabled me to bring that car up to my own 14 year old standards. I think the seats were torn too, but the rest of the car was straight and in decent shape.
Hi Dan, Happy to read this car brings back memories of the light blue one you remember :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
@@loucostabile It still had all four SS wheel covers, but I wanted Cragars by then!😁
That is gorgeous in gold! The cleanest styling of any Chevrolet... Looking factory-fresh. It's a beauty. Congratulations, Tony - great work!

Hi Sam, When I'm around cars, it's a good time :-) Lou
Just unbelievable, thanks to you and Tony for showcasing this beauty!
You're welcome Michael :-)
When I saw Shipyard Marina I instantly thought of Washington Island and Sailor's Pub. I spent many fun hours in Sailor's Pub and got to know Lou, his wife, sons and daughter. What a great tribute to Lou! I am sorry to hear he has passed.
Hi Charlie, Thanks for viewing and sharing you had fun hours and knew Lou :-) Lou
Loved this one Lou! One of my favorite cars of all time. The color is a knockout. My father was in the car business and would grab very nice trade-ins, but mostly large luxury cars. One day, circa 1973-74, he came home with a blue/black '65 Impala SS convertible! Us 3 brothers were flipping out over it! It was an auto with a 327. I can still remember sitting in the middle in the back on long rides and clanking my head on the metal speaker grille when I laid back! HAHA! Great time to be alive!
Hi Jospeh, Happy to read "One of my favorite cars of all time." :-) Lou
Difficult leaving a comment when your speechless _ A professional restorer's jaw would drop looking at Tony's tribute '65 SS to his brother _ He did this Impala justice for all the right reasons _ And had the right guy showcase this masterpiece. . . :>/
Hi dr candor, High praise :-) Lou
What a classy gentlemans car that is, the shape and style is almost hypnotic, it`s a shame that this level of quality, workmanship, and value no longer fits into todays society where everything is disposable and "pride in ownership" is almost a thing of the past.
Hi Junkyarddawg Fixit, Happy to read "What a classy gentlemans car that is, the shape and style is almost hypnotic" :-) Lou
Lou is in his element in the "Western suburbs of Chicago" where local governments like to save taxpayer money and not install very many speed limit signs!
Anthony right on the outskirts where the corn is tall, and the driveways are few and far between so we can get up to the legal speed limit in accelerated fashion.
@@loucostabileLOL, Lou! I like the way you roll!
Great tribute to Louis...Thanks Tony and Lou...a Fantastic SS.
Happy to read you enjoy this "Fantastic SS" :-) You're welcome CJ Design.
What a great car, I always liked the 65 Impalas. Beautiful car, color, and all the options. Perfect restoration too, and the owner drives it! Probably only on nice days though. Thanks for the video Lou!
Hi Robert, Happy to read "What a great car" :-) You're welcome, Lou
Thanks for getting to the Pleasure Ride control at the end, Lou. As the video was drawing to a close I thought perhaps you had forgotten. Nice car, Tony, and a moving tribute (literally and figuratively) to your dear brother. I live in the SW burbs and take in many of the Chicagoland car shows and I will definitely remember you and that car to say hello in case I ever see you.
....saving that dealer option for last :-) Yes, make sure to say hello, and if we're at a car show well go and find some cars for the Channel.
Great story and amazing tribute.
Chevrolet has always built such gorgeous cars and this is an excellent example of their abilities.

What a beautiful restoration! This car looks like brand new! I understand Tony's relationship with his brother, as my oldest brother and I are each other's best friend. Nothing finer than family! Thanks Lou Costabile for sharing this fabulous car 👍
Hi Mike, Happy to read you appreciate the work to make this car look brand new :-) You're welcome, Lou
Hi Jaime, I believe you're right. The best way to honor someone is to share something you've done in excellence, and this car does just that. Happy to read you enjoy the shirt pillows, that was a nice surprise, Lou
Lou, you did it again. Your videos are so unique.

Love Tony's 65 SS story. Nice interview questions on your part Lou..Way to go !
Hi Larry, Happy to read you "Love Tony's 65 SS story" :-) Appreciate the kind words on the interview, Lou
Beautiful 1965 Impala Super Sport. I love that Sierra Tan paint job on its exterior with matching interior. I didn't know that the 396 CI engine was available in 1965. I thought that the 409 CI engine was the only available big block option. I was thinking that the 396 came out a little later. It's a healthy sounding engine. This SS is equipped with the rare Pleasure Ride option. That car is in pristine condition, all the way down to the tags and labels in the engine compartment. A true classic indeed.
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Glad to read you enjoy the sounds from this engine. Lou
Pleasure Ride option is a suspension option, yes ?
I had a 65 with a 396 and that model year started with the 409 for the big block option. It transitioned as the old stock was depleted.
@@brettoberry3586 Now that makes sense. A neighbor had a 1965 Biscayne equipped with the 409 big block with a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. Didn't realize that the 396 CI engine made its debut in 1965.
That motor was offered late in the year and they discontinued the 409 motor at that time also at the same time late in the year they introduced a caprice model for the 65
What a beautiful car ,and even more of a beautiful tribute to your late brother ❤🙏🏾

Beautiful example of a 1965 Chevy Impala SS. Love the color. Love the growl of the exhaust! Love it! A very simple dash, but I like it. It suits the car. The ride along was fantastic! Oh man, I forgot about those hooks in the back seat for your jacket or dry cleaning! Love IT!
Hi Brian, Happy to read "Love IT!" :-) Lou
Hi Lou, I like that the interior and exterior colors match so well and that the color combo is probably rare, at least on the SS. This is a honey of a car with lots of options your rarely see on this model. Thank Tony for his dedicated and fastidious restoration, he is quite the guy. And Lou, as always, thank you for sharing. You are a star.😉👍

Hi Philip, High praise for the looks of this car :-) Glad to read this car brings back memories of your Friends car. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
This is a special car for me. My Dad had a 66 Impala in that lighter seafoam green color. It was a car that I learned to drive in. I do prefer the 65 design, though. Where do I start with the accolades? First, a magnificent hardtop design. Simply beautiful, especially with the windows down. This car combines luxury and sport together so well. Love the air conditioning and power windows. The attention to detail is simply astounding. Tony, you are a rock star! If I was in the market for a car in 1965, this would have been it. Style, power, luxury and comfort, all at a reasonable price. There is nothing like a comfortable, full size car with power and amenities. I have a 2023 Charger and love it. Sadly, there is nothing else like it on the market. I just love your channel, Lou! I am a subscriber. Keep up the good work!
Hi Charles, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Dads car :-) Glad you're a Subscriber, and glad you're along for the ride, Lou
The 1961 and '65 models are works of art.
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
Think 1965 was the best year ever for the Impala. Back in ,'69, My next door neighbor had an Aqua Blue Impala SS, with white interior, T-shift. Very nice car, he was only a little older than 16, he also had a Honda 450 motorcycle. Don't remember how he managed to have possession of such nice vehicles at an early age. Anyway, I had a '64 4dr bare bones Impala right out of high school in '72
High praise for "the best year for the Impala" :-) Glad to read you had a 64 Impala.
Touching! Great tribute to his brother Louis!
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy this tribute to his Brother, Lou
Very nice tribute car.
I'm a teenager in the early '70s and a friend buys a 283 version of the '65 as his first car,,,,,auto, vacuum gauge...
beautiful.
After a year it was gone for a 'Bug. He couldn't hack the gas then so gone.
thx for the memories,,,,,i think ;)

Chevy in 1964 came out with a 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS Super Sport 409 cu in w/ 425 Hp, Later in the year they change over to the new 396 cu in w/425 Hp, same as the 1965 the 396 cu in 425 Hp corvette engine, Now these cars are rare cause there wasn't that many made.. Real nice car Lou, I've always love this model of impala

I owned 2 65 Impalas , one had the 327 and the other one was the big 396 with the powerglide transmission. Both had AC, electric windows, power brakes and washer/wiper for the windows . The SS Impala''s were the best!!! 😂👍💥💙✅🆗✅😎
Hi John S., Twice as nice having two :-) Lou
Hi, Lou! Been a while since I last checked in, but here I am enjoying this super cool Impala SS with all the right stuff and learning all about "pleasure ride"! Of course, I'm sure every ride's a pleasure in this machine! It's really splendid how Tony found just the right car to remind him of his brother. As you said, this restoration has certainly done well to pay him tribute! BTW, the '65 was the best-selling year of all the Impala SS's.
Many thanks to you and Tony taking us on an amazing Super Sporty virtual ride!

Thank you for another awesome video. My dad started buying Impalas in the mid 60s as our family car. They were strippers: no radio, no a/c, no power anything. The only option he wanted was the biggest motor that would fit under the hood. I wish I had those cars today.

When I was a kid, around 1972-73, my moms AVON lady had a similar car. I remember riding my bike up the driveway at those taillights.
(it probably wasn't an SS tho)

What a Beauty Lou
I agree James
Wow, I never knew that a 396 was an option in '65, for the Impala.
In '65, my parents bought a new Impala Super Sport.
White, with a teal roof.
White interior.
It had a 327 V8, and console shift automatic.
