I can't wait for Rarran to become the head of the Hearthstone Commander Rules Committee and make asininely bad decisions due to the committee's professional relationship with Blizzard. /s
@@aurumiel1199It's a little joke about how words that end with "-er", like "commander" sound like "command her" and so on. The punchline "I hardly know 'er" is a way to acknowledge that coincidence in a joking manner. It's also Rarran's favorite dad joke ever.
I really do love that you and Eddie started doing more videos together. I ran across Eddie about 2 years ago, and you about 6 months ago, completely separately of each other. It's great to see my two favorite hearthstone players making videos.
It's really funny to me that I used to play the 35 legendary deck so much that I know that malchezaar NEVER gives you repeated legendaries, it's hard coded not to do that (shoutout blizzard for that decision)
Being someone that plays many of the most known card games (Yu gi oh, Magic, Heartstone and LoR) I am always so exited to see the comander format in all of these card games, it's just so fun to watch and play
Would be amazing if blizzard did a real spin on commander. I doubt they would create a command zone but you could pick a legendary that always starts in your hand, and is returned to your hand when it dies along with players having 60 health 😎
If it is not a tavern brawl, there would be many problems, the one I think of immediately is greybough, rattlegore , maybe thassarian and others that resurrect themselves. All copies of that minion would return to hand, but since greybough has taunt, it just makes it comically un-fun.
30 Health = HearthStone 60 Health = ComboStone All you'll see is infinite damage combo decks because 60 health give players the time to assemble the pieces
Honestly for the next Twist mode something like Commander would be sick. You get an Ethereal copy of a legendary creature, every time it's removed it costs 1 more up to 10? Would be really silly
from a Magic standpoint i think this would make more challenging if Neutral minions were excluded from the deckbuilding(thus forcing players to only build with cards consistent to their class unless multiclass of course), but then again, Magic has Colorless cards too so i guess its kind of equivalent. BTW Blizzrd has all the tools to make a Commander format on HS in my opinion, all these custom heros for Dungeons on top of tavern brawls and hero cards flying around, the framework is there allthought i'd consider Heros are more like Planeswalkers in this context.
I think that card ranks could be a cool new feature that the hearthstone team could experiment with. I know a few card games that have commander, recruit, officer rank tags printed on their cards.
How did you menaged to put 10 extra cards on the decks? Also, since your commander is your class, you shouldn't be able to put neutral cards to make it more interesting.
Next you should try playing the Popper format for Hearthstone. I know right now there's a very small community that is being formed to play it and it could be a lot of fun
i've thought about this a lot. I'd love if blizz did this. Imagine having something like the Mage secret legendary as a commander, or Denathrius as a commander. Would be awesome.
This actually pretty cool its fun bc its not like sweaty and the rng of having to draw 1 from 50 cards a turn is funny but I guess the "Commander" could be like the titan maybe? That aspect is not something that translates to HS that well but still fun video overall.
I think it'd be cool if blizzard introduced something like this. Have you commander be a lenegary creature and it replaces your hero power which you can use to cast it
Interesting ideas for a challenge I came up with... Originally I was going to challenge rarren to use one of my decks for each class and see how long it takes for him to get a win, but then I realized I would have to get in some sort of contact with the man... Highly unlikely, so instead I present this challenge to you @rarren win a game with each class, but chat builds your deck 1 card at a time, you may use whatever system works best, may it be clickmaps or whatever... Feel that could be an interesting video (I also realize that I dont have a profile picture and look like some random bozo with a default profile)
you say 50-card deck but while Mal'ganis gives a +5, I think C'thun The Shattered only functionally gives a +4 since he splits from 1 card into 5 cards, so shouldnt it be a 49-card deck?
So I've heard of commander, I play a few card games so I get mtg tiktoks and stuff but I don't really understand what it is? Can anyone explain to someone with the bare minimum knowledge of mtg
typically a 4 player format with 100 card highlander decks and 1 of your 100 is a legendary creature or planeswalker with the text it can be your commander, it's in its own zone on the battlefield called the command zone and you can cast it whenever you have the mana, if it is removed from the battlefield permanently you can move it back the the command zone and it costs 2 more mana to recast. Very small ban list with almost every card ever printed being legal.
100 card decks, 40 life, no duplicate cards One of those 100 is your Commander, which can be played at any time. If it dies, it goes back to the command zone, where you can play it again but it costs more and more each time. Your entire deck must be in only colors your commander has. If your commander is green-black, you can only put green, black, or colorless cards in your deck, not blue, red, or white.
Commander, or EDH, is a format where every character has a deck with 100 cards, with one of them being the commander, which is a legendary creature which stays in the command zone, you can play your commander for its cost at any point you could normally cast them. your deck can only feature cards that are in the colour identity of said commander, or colourless cards. you can only have one copy of each non land card, unless specifically stated (there is like three cards that do this). you start with a higher health total, more so if you have more than 2 players.
Main differences are: You start at 40 hp and minimum deck size is 100 (as opposed to 20 health and 60 cards). You also have a Commander, a legendary creature which can be played at any time, even if it already died. However it does get more and more expensive each time you do so. Additionally, you can only use the colours that are part of your commander's colour identity (i.e cost). Commander also seems way more approachable with 3 or 4 player games, compared to standar where you only usually play with 2 players.
Biggest L for games like hearthstone, overwatch and league of legends is modability imo.the way these games are built makes it hard to mod. It would be pretty awesome if any of these games could be modded.
I feel like calling this commamder is maybe a tad misleading aince cimmamder is primarily multiplayer and having a here isnt really different frim normal game9lay that said thia is a very anaologes to 9ther highlander style formats in magic such as candian highlander
As a commander player in MtG, I don’t really understand how this is anything like commander? Like, yes, it’s highlander but there have been highlander decks in hearthstone before. Other than highlander and, I guess, above average deck size how is this a commander format?
I was absolutely certain Rarran was going to wait a turn and get his Odyn eaten. It just felt too perfect
It would be pretty interesting if Blizzard actually added something like this. Though obviously with their own add-ons and whatnot
I can't wait for Rarran to become the head of the Hearthstone Commander Rules Committee and make asininely bad decisions due to the committee's professional relationship with Blizzard. /s
could easily be a twist format
Could even be "real" Commander where your hero power adds your chosen legendary creature to your hand and only refreshes when it dies
"It would be pretty interesting if Blizzard..." yeah well it's a shame they won't Blizzard unless it makes them $
and those addons would be predatory monetary focused practices
Should totally do this with Roffle, can only imagine what crazy shenanigans he would come up with.

For almost 8 years now, I've always played like this..
Loved watching this format!
I think the closest Hearthstone has come to a commander is the shrines in rumble run.
Love the video, its just like commander except its literally just normal hearthstone. SO COOL
isnt commander also no duplicats? so running reno and co. should be the standard for this custom format? ;D
I would think HS commander as one legendary and build around that one legendary. If that legendary minion dealt 20+ damage, it's a commander kill.
please do more of these until hearthstone makes it an official game mode
I'm pretty sure commanderless commander is just called highlander.
How am I supposed to know that Eddy is in this video if you don't put "Hearthstone Legend" in the title, Rarran?
