I really like this channel because it is comprehensible input for me. I need the subtitles now but associating the sounds with the words is helping. They make no effort to use any English which is great. Comprehension here i come.

Gracias por este video! Cuando empecé a practicar mis habilidades de escucha, vi telenovelas en Netflix pero mas lentamente que normal. Después de unos meses de escuchar y leer los subtítulos, pude entender bastante bien, así que empecé a escucharlas a velocidad normal. Creo que la paciencia, la consistencia, y el deseo son muy importantes para aprender el español y otros idiomas también 😇

I think there are very strong points for all of these various perspectives.
I think the level system (A1, A2, B1, etc) is not, or should not be taken as an absolute viewpoint on the state of an individuals status in the new language but rather as determining a level of mastery of the material that is tested to obtain that level. This does not mean that a person who is B1 is not weak in one of the 5 aspect and very strong in another aspect.
The other thing I would like to state is my viewpoint (as someone who is only now learning my second language and thus take what I say with a "grain of salt"), that in the beginning, speaking is not where the focus should be. When we are at the beginning stages, we have an extremely limited vocabulary, we are only now staring to learn very basic sentence construction....etc etc etc.
So I believe that what should be done at the beginning is listening and reading as much content as possible. Given enough time, our vocabulary will increase, we will begin to be comfortable with sentence construction and we will also learn how the language sounds when spoken correctly, by native speakers.....thus when we start speaking, we will already have a good idea of how it should sound. I believe all of these things are the foundation that should begin to be established before speaking. Speaking or rather verbal interaction is absolutely the final goal and the measure of success but speaking when you have little vocabulary is wasted effort, I think.
I wrote the above while still watching at the beginning of the video and many of these points were discussed during the video.
The two types of speaking is a fantastic insight and one I had not yet considered.
I am thinking that, perhaps, being able to speak but not easily hold a conversation might be the result of primarily studying the language but not spending enough time on simply watching content...such as films, tv series, podcasts and youtube videos in which people verbally interact in the target language.
I think that there are a group of common sentence constructions which are re-used... replacing the subject, the verb and adjectives/adverbs and also there is a corresponding group of common responses. I believe that children, via listening and reading during all waking hours receive a massive volume of input and learn these things. I think this is how children learn to interact verbally. The children are mimics. Children initially copy what they have heard. I think this is the natural manner to gain a language. But children have the advantage of immersion. I think adults could progress faster than children if we were immersed because we have the advantage of understanding (or quickly being able to learn) the structures of language.
At the start, a child might have the advantage because they won't ask why and waste time on that but rather they will simply mimic what they are experiencing. An adult would have the advantage of learning the language to a high degree more quickly because the adult can leverage what they already know about language.
I feel like I am sounding as if I know what I'm talking about. The truth is that I know nothing and this is all speculation.
Comprehensible Input - Many people are very sceptical about this method, usually quoting that adults can't learn in the same way as children, afterall we all learned our first language via CI. However the "brain implacicity theory" has been disproved, MIT have shown that you can teach adults, and if they have the same amount of time at it as children, adults actually learn more quickly. I know a lot of Dutch people who tell me in perfect english that CI doesn't work, but then when I ask how they learned English they say "by watching TV"...

Creo que como adultos, aunque nos falta la neuroplasticidad de un bebé, tenemos la ventaja de poder combinar la lectura y el escuchar. Los dos han sido imprescindibles en mi viaje como estudiante. Sí creo que la lectura se ayude más despues de haber formado una base mediante el escuchar (como hacen los niños en sus lenguas maternas).

In my experience the only way to learn how to speak was to practice speaking. es por eso que pienso que todo el mundo necesita practicar hablar junto con los otros habilidades
Siempre es interesante escuchar y hablar de las mejores maneras de desarrollar la habilidad de avanzar el aprendizaje de un idioma. Para mi, todo es importante a su vez. Pero, si piensas, por ejemplo, no me gusta leer, y por eso no lo hago y por eso no voy a hacer nada - eso no sirve para nada. Para mi, no me gusta estudia jerga pero para otras personas es casi lo más importante. Los dos enfoques son "correctos" en que si le dan un impulso al aprendizaje o un retraso al aprendizaje a ti, es un buen idea asentarse or esquivar esas cosas.
En cuanto a los bebés y jóvenes, hay mucha evidencia de que sus cerebros tienen diferentes capacidades para empapar palabras, expresiones y averiguar gramática hasta la edad de siete, ocho.
Siempre es un tema interesante, y ustedes, David y Ana han hablado del tema en una manera interesante, informativa y con entusiasmo, autoridad y humor. Gracias, como siempre.

Creo que la capacidad de leer y escribir (la lectura es un poco más importante, disparame) porque, en mi opinión, la capacidad de leer es clave para la pronunciación. Y luego están las cosas no tan interesantes pero sí muy importantes y esa es la gramática. Creo que puedo leer español bastante bien, y ver las cosas escritas también me ayuda a hablar. Veo el orden correcto de las palabras y a veces siento que necesito este refuerzo en mi avance. Esto se aplica a la conjugación y el subjuntivo y muchas otras áreas que resultan en un mejor habla. Muy interesante tema David y Ana. Mil gracias.

@@HowtoSpanishOfficial Yo también soy así. Si veo la palabra escrita, mis posibilidades de recordarla son mayores y de poder pronunciarla correctamente. Si escucho una palabra y luego alguien me pide que la repita, no tengo idea de lo que saldrá de mi boca. (para palabras difíciles, por supuesto)

There are other videos on UA-cam that goes over many different Spanish accents just type in types of Spanish accents. Even the comedian Fluffy has a stand I of how you can tell the difference type in fluffy Spanish accents and it will pop up.

A mi me encanta este canal y todos sus videos que publican. Me siento muy a gusto con mi español pero nomas me falta aprender un cachito de vocabulario. Mas slang y palabras que a lo mejor no use todos los dias pero hay que aprender. Ustedes tienen un sección de vocabulario o slang en su sitio web?

Escucho a sus videos todos los dias y entiendo la mayoría de lo que dicen pero esto me ayudaría cuando me agarran en curva con unas palabras que no sé o sea palabras o frases que utilizan en la vida diaria en mexico.

Creo que todas las 4 habilidades son importantes, pero la meta para el idioma determina cuáles habilidades son las más cruciales para cada estudiante. Por ejemplo, si quieres trabajar como traductor, necesitas saber leer y escribir los idiomas bien, pero escuchar y hablar no son tan necesarios. Si quieres trabajar como interprete, tienes que hablar y escuchar, pero es probable que no escribas ni leas tan frecuentemente. Si quieres comunicarte con familia, tal vez solo necesitas hablar y escuchar.
Para mi, hablar y escuchar son los más importantes, porque mi meta es hablar con fluidez con hablantes nativos sin que me corrijan mucho. Sí, leer es importante para desarrollar su vocabulario, y escribir puede ayudar con gramática y estructuras. Pero ciertamente voy a enfocarme más en escuchar y conversar.

Vale. Los infantes y niños aprenden por hacer exigencias a sus padres, estar mimado por sus padres y luego, seguir las instrucciones y exigencias de sus padres. “Luis, limpia tu cuarto!”, “Pablo, lávate las manos”, “Ana, tira la basura”.
Como nosotros no tenemos padres para consentirnos así, tenemos que buscar un suplente. Para mi, el suplente idóneo es jugar juegos de mesa y juegos de niños, como ‘Simon Dice’, a lo cual nos enseña entender instrucciones, seguir los ordenes y que partes del cuerpo mover.
Lo mejor episodio que ustedes han producido fue cuando guiaron el juego, ‘Cien Mexicanos Dijeron’. ¿Te acuerdas? Ese juego se trata de grupos de cosas y como rápido pueden nombrar una cosa entre un grupo de cosas.
Cómo aprendieron el español, o inglés, o francés, o portugués los indígenas de las Américas? O los africanos subsaharianos? Cómo se comunicaron Marco Polo y los asiáticos? Cómo aprendieron los israelitas el griego o el latín o el egipcio?
Desde mi punto de vista Me ayuda más escuchar y hablar porque es la forma interactiva ¿y así? Con un libro leo en la voz de mi propia mente y claro me voy a entender. Entonces por mi porte es más necesario que yo escuche a otras personas y que hable con ellos.
Además digamos a lo mejor que ya me haya acostumbrado a los acentos mexicanos. Pero ¿qué tal si quisiera platicar con alguien en el voseo que habla el español rioplatense por ejemplo? Un libro no me a va a ayudar lograr entenderlos
Yo hubiera considerado que el “deer sir” era muy tierno. De hecho los errores que cometen los latinos son tiernos. La profesora de a Spanishland school (otro buen canal como ustedes ya saben) dijo stuff en lugar de staff y era muy tierno aun más porque nosotros somos estudiantes de español y hacemos lo mismo al revés

Good Morning. My Spanish is not (yet) good enough to discuss a fifth aspect of language and that's 'culture'. There are soooooo many references to those 'things we know' (in a certain country, area, region) that are IMpossible to pick up through language studies alone. That's where most of the confusion comes into play when dealing with estrangeros. Not the 'words itself' but the cultural meaning. The Chevy Nova was not a big hit in Puerto Rico...
The best way I have found to pick up phrases and slang from different Spanish speaking countries is to follow different youtubers from those countries. This has helped me quite a bit. Of course living or visiting these places will always be the best way but my Spanish depth has grown so much through youtubers.
You could live in the US for 40 years and never know what the hell they are talking about when they say, "50% of this sport is 90% mental". Of course, it means NOTHING, it's jibberish that came from the mouth of Yogi Bera and is used as a joke. But to your point, yes, a lot of language is only absorbed through culture. A large part of culture is history, though, and not current events or current slang, and that can be picked up by reading and studying quotes. If we all study the Mexican Revolution, for instance, we find out many astounding facts that shape life today in Mexico. Pancho Villa alone is a great study and you can pick up a lot of the mentality of their culture there.
@@zeppelinmexicano Yes and no. I agree 100% there's a lot to be found in history but there are hundreds, if not thousands, of simple little things you can't understand unless someone explains to me what Hablar como Perico means. I can study 'Aguas' and learn how to spell it, pronounce it, learn it's a plural, etc. But it's not till that very first time someone explains it means 'Watch out; danger' you have no idea what it is. That's also culture.
