If you watch the series and see how fast Jake ages that should tell you how stressful it is to be a captain.. Rest in peace to all the men of the lost F/V Destination..
So true. I watched the earlier seasons and just when he got to be a captain. Saw this clip and wow did he age. Tough life and has to be brutal on their health.
Yes, this job ages people very quickly.
@@laurab391 one of the most stressful jobs ever is being the captain. He solely responsible for every life on board one of the most dangerous of working conditions. As you can see it really takes a toll.
@@lordj.8962sounds so damn hard on your heart jesus
Yes but he also looks clean. Like many Jake battled the demons but it looks like he’s coming out on the winning side
The look on Sig's face when he said he felt like he was on borrowed time is brutal. Like a 1000 yard stare, shell-shocked and a hundred other references all rolled up into one~
This isn't even the first friend he's lost. Phil, the Scandies Rose, the Destination. And those are just the ones I know of. There are probably others that got lost that we didn't see or hear about. This guy has lost a lot of people who left before their time. Alaskan fishers are no stranger to death. Alaskan captains are no stranger to death, and have to fight it off for the sake of their crew. And an older captain is certainly well acquainted with death, staring it right in the eye, and seeing what happens to those who make a mistake at the exact wrong time.
God Bless ALL the Sailors and Especially the ones that never return to the dock.. God Bless, RIP Destination Crew !
God obviously did not bless them if they were lost at sea.
Your almighty, all powerful god did this lol
I spent 25 years working on commercial/charter fishing boats as a mate.
I ALWAYS did wheel watch myself after waking up one time and finding another mate asleep at the wheel.
I never slept on a wheel watch.
Plus I was trained to go down and check the engine room every other hour. That training paid off more than once.
On the ocean you can have life vests...a lifeboat..an EPIRB...etc..but once your boat goes down and all that is around you is 100 miles of open ocean......Yeah.....
As a coast guard vet . Its thes ones we dont find is exactly what haunts us
Awe thanks mate for everything you did
Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
Bless your heart and soul, that would be a haunting job especially when no bodies are recovered for their families 😢💕💕
Thank you for your service you are my hero. We lost a FV and all souls my Grandfather. But my father was a skipper in Alaska for many years you guys are our hero's.
I think you need to try and think about all the people you saved as well.
Other wise it may affect your mental health
Sig has a good wife. All she wanted was for her man to come home so she could comfort him through his sorrow.
He sure does
Not just that, she knows his mind won't be straight and it needs to be.
@@dzzope It does seem to work a lot better that way! Kind of a risky place to not be present in the present! Good point! We could have John hillstrand's wife bake him a cookie...?
Totally Agree, she sounded worried about his safety out at sea as well as worried about how he would be coping, bless her.
@@Pobsta-de7hb "I find your lack of Faith disturbing!" 👹
I remember watching this show, cried my eyes out. RIP DESTINATION 💕💕💕
A human being can only take so much, make the most of the time you have left, what a sad loss of some very brave Fisherman.
Edger is the type of person that the look on his face tells you everything you need to know without saying a word
Tragedy aside, the shot where we see Edgar, then cuts to the angle where he’s looking out at the rough seas they’re in, literally, and figuratively. The wind is swirling & howling all around them. It really captures the emotions they’re experiencing, having just had one of their extended fishing family members get swallowed up by the sea. A reminder of just how dangerous that job can be.
@@cleech74 you are correct! It was Edgar and his look that made me realize how horrible that situation was. I’m an Iraq/ Afghanistan combat veteran with 7 deployments and a truck driver stateside and that look he had I’ve seen before.
@@shanewoods1980 Oh, wow. Can’t imagine how difficult that is to deal with. Cheers, for your service.
Question. Have you seen David Simon (HBO’s The Wire) other show, “Generation Kill”? It’s about the war in Iraq, and one of the characters is actually portrayed by one of the marines who the show is based on. I think it gives the show some authenticity, and legitimacy, since he was actually there. Really well written.
Edgar is a pedo. Don't feel bad for him.
@@shanewoods1980Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
It takes a special kind of person to do this job . So sad . God bless them all
😢🙏🥺
These men love and respect each other. They all know the ricks in their profession. But it doesn't make it any easier when tragedy strikes RIP to all who perished that day
Such a heartbreak for those hard working men and those who lived them.
Old News !
LOVED
Sig absolutely made the right call here. In his state, he would have been a danger to himself and his crew if he stayed with how distracted he would have been. Sometimes the best thing is to walk away when you're not in the right place.
The sea is a cruel mistress and the tempest her storm of devastation. The whole crew....just gone. To anyone who works the sea, blessings, and be safe. RIP Destination and crew.
may your pots be full and the seas be calm.... always with us our brothers of the sea... rest in peace 🌷we love you.
I lost my Dad to the ocean. My heart goes out to all who loved them. 💔
So sorry for your loss. We also lost family to the ocean.💔
@@gingergomes4129 thank you. So glad your family survived.
OUR BLESSINGS...
So sorry for your loss
Praying for you and your family 🙏
I'd rather never eat crab again. Just to have all of you home with your families.
dont eat Alaskan crab
That’s how they earn a living …
That’s a bold statement, but for the families, I’d make that sacrifice too.
Who can even afford it anyway?
You would rather they be unemployed? Try to think more critically next time.
Condolences to the affected families and friends of the Destination. As a Captain I can only imagine what their final moments in that harsh environment were like and the thought is pretty grim. May their souls Rest In Peace.
So sorry for your loss
PRAISE Y'ALL- LOSS, SADNESS, YOU STILL FIGHT THE SEAS TO GET YOUR CATCH-- I'VE been watching you since 2004- now 2024- GUARDIAN ANGELS- LORD WATCH OVER THESE COURAGEOUS MEN❤❤ GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERYONE ONE OF YOU....❤❤
Amen !!!!
I was JUST thinking that! It's been 24-25 years. I remember watching the Original when I was in college. Now I'm 50. Yikes! ❤
(I'm talking about the original documentary before it was turned into a series)
💔 So heartbreaking 😢 May all of these beautiful Souls RIP 🙏 ❤
rip to those men
So sad y’all! Such a dangerous job! I’m so sorry for the loss of ur friends!❤
I remember this episode!! It was moving to see the captains and their crews reactions.
It always crushes me when these macho men start to cry.
Agreed
Real men cry.
You know it's bad when we do
Same here. Devastating.
Man, that statement there gone hits hard !!
I'm so sorry for anyone who's connected. My heart cries with you... Bless you all.
RIP from this sailor to those sailors I can’t stop crying my eyes out this was so hard to watch. I’m on my boat right now with my bird just staring out at the ocean with such a deep pain in my soul. You never know when it will happen, every time we go out it’s a gamble.
I was stationed in Adak, Alaska for 3.5 years in the 80's while in the US Navy. The relationship the fisherman and the coast guard have is incredible.
A friend of mine was, at one time, a crewman on the Scandies Rose. He was so upset and beside himself with grief and anger over the loss of his friends on this boat.
This Accident Took Place 7 Years Ago, If I'm Not Mistaken... But For The Family and Shipmates,,, It Still Seems Like "Yesterday"... Here's a "Heart Wrenching" Article,,, About Boat, Crew, Family, and Cause ...
Sending prayers! I’m so very sorry for your loss!
Davey Jones locker .........so much respect to the families and there friends of the lost sailors ❤.
Rest in peace
I've worked for a fishing fleet that lost its captain to a sinking. Horrible experience
So sorry for your loss, god bless, and we love you.
It's a different kind of human that can go out there and do this job fighting nature and all of the fury she sometimes offers. I know I couldn't do it and I say that with the deepest admiration for these guys. I know the episode is old, but I am very sorry to see this. It does put things in perspective.
wow. good bless them.
This is heart breaking. May they all find peace..😢
No matter how long it’s been since this happened, it haunts me to this day….
UTL or TNO, I’ve never heard “no joy” but thinking about it, everyone would’ve been very joyful to see those souls again in a life raft
This episode is heartbreaking. The pain in everyones face literally made me cry. Now watching this a couple days after Nick past away makes it even worse. RIP the guys on the Destination and Nick Mavar
Please stay safe. I cried when I heard.
So sorry for the guys that were lost in the bearing sea so so sorry sig for your friend😢
prayers for the families of the Destination. Also for all their friends and fellow fisherman
They fish in dangerous rogue wave type topography on the ocean floor. Near canyon walls where water can be compressed in currents creating wave desync which causes waves to pile up on one another creating rogue waves.
I'm sorry Sig and to all the captains for the loss of your friends stay safe
Sig I feel you buddy God Bless
God Bless them all
🙏🙏🙏
sorry for your loss😢
When your soul belongs to the softland it hurts when you lose a vessel, I haven't been outhere in a long time I knows how it feel🎉🎉🎉
Deep respect for them. Breaks my heart, too.
Prayers are with all of them
My uncle was killed many years ago a crackpot hit him in the head went overboard and by the time help arrived he died. This happened in Alaska. Never forgot this.
Have the utmost respect for fishermen all over the world. I’m not brave enough to do it. RIP guys.
Never surrender Sig.
Rip Destination crew so very sad how many are lost at sea.
to there family I am so sorry lot of love
What a terrible feeling 4 everyone involved. God Bless the lost... The people left 2 mourn them... & The Coast Guards who risk it all to try & rescue people everyday. Such a dangerous job.
😢 Such sad news. God bless all of you that are so brave and willing to do such a dangerous job 🙏🏻. Sending prayers to all of you, your families, and to the ones who lives are now changed forever due to this tragedy 😭.
I'm so very sorry😢
Oh my God. I am so sorry 😢
I class myself as a bit of a hardass with little emotion but this really brought a tear to my eyes. God rest their souls
The show finally lived up to its name. It seemed like this was where it would lead eventually. RIP to the sailors.
Watching this a folk song comes to mind. Stan Roger’s I’ll go to sea no more. Hope the crew of destination is at peace. I can’t imagine the pain their families are dealing with.
Absolutely get the hell out of there for a while
Tough episode. Great Hansen family fortitude!!! As always... hat's off to the US Coast Guard®!
RIP and condolences to the faimiles sad
Feel so sorry for you guys loosing your fellow mate's wishing you safety and get home safe too your family's but thank you for our lovely fish you all bring in stay safe guy's ❤
It's very sad and can happen to anyone, anytime. May they R.I.P...till the Sea gives up her dead.
Those waters are treacherous. RIP and to the families God bless and give you peace 🙏🙏🙏💔💔💔
Legend is sig
SCARY!😢
So terrible for the family's of the lost ones this is a dangerous job and the sea is so powerful prayers for the families
They went to the same grave my friends did on the FV St George which was feature on Deadliest Catch. I took Terry James to the airport in Bellingham, WA and plead for him not to go crabbing with Skipper Dave Parks who imho was not ready for what the Bering Sea has to dish out.
RIP!
Happened back in 2019
So sorry. My condolences. What happened? The sea is beautiful but scary.
Trust me, it's so damn hard to lose a friend who is like a brother.
These Guys know the risk but I'm sure its hard especially for 2 close friends. RIP Captain Jeff.
Of the number of boats that have sunk over the years of this show, it is extremely rare that someone is found alive. Sadly, the cold waters of the north are unforgiving.
The worst part is that the FV Destination was completely preventable. They put a new bulbous bow on and were carrying heavier crab pots, installed by the boat owner, but the owner failed to have the stability rating of the ship re-evaluated. That boat owner killed his crew and sunk the FV Destination. It's all in the Coast Guard report on the incident. Absolutely tragic.
That’s a bit dramatic
"You have completed your search pattern with no joy." Hell of a f*cking way to say that.
I dunno but sounds like a protocol , like very clear statement.
"No Joy" is pretty universal for failure to complete a task.
That is how it is done, states clearly the matter of things.
I,d want to head in to docks too after picking up the epirb and searching the zone to see no traceability is just gut tearing stuff especially when its your friend your searching for , knowing that they've gone with the boat outta sight, praises of hope to recovery of there soul's to be taken back home to there families
In high school we had many fishing fleets that left our town for SE Alaska. One of the boats in 1990-91 ish took too many nets and the captain knew it he was risking it because they didn't complete all the work at the dock before departure. When your CG is high as a captain you must make sure your maneuvering doesn't get too wonky. They were trying to make up time and entered the Campbell River transition at the wrong time and the boat capsized and sunk in about 30 seconds. My buddy was asleep in his bunk 3 decks from the water's surface. He probably didn't have 30 seconds to even figure out what was happening before he was gone.
💔 So sorry Thats so very sad just thinking of what they went through 😢 heartbreaking May they RIP
Last year I went out to eat had Alaskan crab ... I thought about these men and what they had to go through for my meal...Deeply appreciate all they go through and family too. RIP Brave Souls
So sad and sorry for all families and friends. We also lost a FV all souls lost I know the pain. One of our crew members lost, it was his first trip fishing ever young dad and young family. That was my Grandfather’s FV. My father was also a skipper in Alaska every year he would say this is my last year but the money was to good to stop. He was the top producing Skipper on a joint venture running the FV Excalibur in Alaska. You don’t have a chance in Alaska Waters. My prayers go out to all. I am a Commercial Fisherman’s daughter and Granddaughter this is a hard life for the families. Every soul lost on our memorial where friends and love ones. My dad had 3 daughters we did also work in the industry not on a FV he said it is to dangerous.
I don’t think it was right for the cameras to roll. That’s these guys grief and emotions
❤RIP Destination❤
extreamly sad stuff
those accidents are just to close to home
Discovery was found to have between 90-120 tons of ice above the waterline - changing the center of mass of the ship dramatically and in those heavy waters, it simply flipped over and sank.
After i served in the Marine corps for 15yrs. I tried it on a shrimp boat. And when we came in from the first trip i hit the doc running. And never went back RIP men
I did Commercial Fishing man you can go down quick! I almost lost it a couple of times, This is so sad !
God Bless fishermen
Lost my Father to the sea while doing his job. Left a wife with a 4 year old (me) and a baby. My heart goes out to all families that have lost loved ones just earning a living ❤
Edgar Hansen does it all
This is the first time I ever seen Sig get so rattled.
I can’t imagine being is this situation. We watch this show for entertainment, but some of it is really REAL. I’m sure it’s similar to firefighters who watch coworkers going into a fire and not coming out. It’s amazing to think these guys risk there lives so that someone can enjoy an expensive meal, with no rush at all. Bless those who didn’t survive ❤ 🙏
I pray for those lost and the ones still out there working. May god provide you some peace of mind.We enjoy watching you fish but know that it is extremely dangerous.
A sad and rough way to go. After all of Sig's heart problems Sig is still smoking Cigs.
He quit years ago. This is from 2017
