Amazing canvas. This is what mixed media should be in my opinion. Simply beautiful.
I love that you left in the whole process and problem about the black circles and getting it to look very pretty...great job!!
+June Steuterman Thank you June 😊 sometimes things go a little ugly for awhile lol
Just wanted to say I think this canvas is awesome! One thing I have learned doing mixed media, you have to push on..... If u hang in there long enough, that's when you create amazing pieces like this one! Thanks for sharing!
What a wonderful inspirational video! You really showed how to not give up on something you don't like. It can always turn into something beautiful. The end result looks nothing like what you started with, and yet I can still see the layer you put down first. The end result is beautiful! We all need to learn this lesson!
As a brand new person to mixed media, I find this very inspirational. Thank you for the video.
Thank you so much :) I am glad you enjoyed the video!
This would certainly be a lesson in never giving up!!! It turned out amazing!!!!!! Way to pull it off.
Thanks so much Carrie :) I learned a lot from this one
Sometimes artistry just happens! Great work!
Thanks so much Lisa :)
good lesson about not giving up even when you don't like the first look you get it turned out great and suprising
This was very clever and the idea of flowers brilliant. Very pretty.
Wow, just shows you should never give up when it comes to mixed media! I absolutely Love it! Thank you for sharing and inspiring me!
Thank you Summy :) Yes..just keep doing layers layers layers until you like it :)
I think this turned out to be very pretty. The texture is great. I like how you took something you didn't like, kept working on it, and turned it into a beautiful piece of art.
Thank you Susie :) Sometimes you just have to keep at it...a good lesson for me to learn :)
Fabulous how you developed the flowers and love the colors.
Thanks so much +Dianna Short :)
I totally love it. It make it real. In the end the black dots did you a favor, you keep going and made something wonderful
Thank you Marilynn :) I am happy with the way it ended up.
You have to be a pro to accomplish this! I loved it!
Very pretty. .The black really did pop the roses♡
Gorgeous colors and subtle contrast. Thank You
Thank you Virginia :)
I like how this piece finished ..
Loved how you didn't give up and ended up with a nice piece of artwork. Love it.
really neat. Love what the black shadows did. Wow
That was totally crazy with such a good end result!
Fun crazy though :)
Love these flowers! I love the way you were able to redo the black tissue, and push it back to be less noticeable. Thanks for sharing Shel!
New to me and I love it. Already familiar with art tissue while doing silk, however, not with gesso. Something new to try. Glad I found this site.
I've been wanting to experiment with texture. This looks like a really fun way to jump in. Thanks Shel.
Thank you Michelle :) Yes, this is fun and I love texture! Have fun playing :)
I'm drawn towards texture in art naturally. Maybe it's a "nature" thing or maybe from being a kiddo who heard "don't touch that!"LOL.
I love that you took a risk, were brave during your experiment, & pushed thru to a final beautiful piece!!! Thank you for sharing your journey w/ us💗Many Blessings
Thank you for watching Susie :)
I have been learning that contrast can be even more effective than light- depending. That black was a great call and I love it!
Thank you Terrie :) I was glad I just kept going on this one even though my original vision was not how it turned out LOL
Wow that is a beautiful canvas. Love the depth it gives to the picture
I really appreciate the lesson in perseverance! Amazing!
Glad to hear that :) Every once in awhile I put on a fail and recovery story so everyone can see it happens :)
Love watching this process and all of the turnarounds it took to get there. Like the end result a lot. I saw a video...can't remember who it was, sorry, but they made their own bleeding art tissue using Dyan Reavely's ink sprays on plain tissue paper, not the kind with the shiny surface on one side. It was fantastic. Let them dry thoroughly and since her ink sprays,( and Tim's also) are water reactive, you get the same result. Haven't tried it yet but the video that showed the effect was marvelous. Been binge watching your videos today and having a great time of it :)
Shel C, I loved these flowers, and I love your process! It’s really gratifying to know that someone besides myself has to work improvisation-ally. Yay, for improv! We start with an idea and then turn a corner. It’s hard for some people, but I can’t work without it. As one of my teacher’s says, “If you can’t change your mind... you don’t have one.” Or something like that. Ha!
Thank you Ruth Ann :) That is a great quote! When I made this video a few years ago I was a lot more tense. Now I just love doing intuitive art and feel very comfortable changing my mind on a whim LOL
I can’t see how you UA-camrs do these videos! I enjoy watching and seeing all the art, but I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to make a video. Right now I am making a quilt/banner of Earth and night sky and animals and people. It represents all of life that we have been given. So much!!! Now it’s our turns to create what we can. And do what we can to save the Planet. So maybe after I’m done with it, I can slip into my teaching role, either here only in Illinois or on UA-cam. I so appreciate your work and presence. Thanks load!!!
Hi, doing the black shadows really accentuated the dimension. What a great result.
Thank you +jayemsh :) Yes, the black finally resolved the problems I was having lol
Love the the way it came out... Beautiful !!
I really like the way this turned out!
+CR Haddock Thanks so much :)
you make it all look easy. I loved loved this canvas when you were done!
This turned out beautifully in spite of the challenges. You seemed so surprised and delighted that you had almost 1000 subscribers. Now look at you! 😊
Thank you Sidni :) Yes, I was surprised and still am at 20k LOL
love the texture and colors! looks great!
Thank you Nancy Pelfrey :)
I really enjoyed watching this video. Your transformation of this work was wonderful to watch. I love your painting with paper videos, but watching you turn something you weren't as happy with, to this beautiful piece was great. Thanks for letting us watch.
I never stop being amazed at the work you do!
I love how you stuck with it and it turned out great!! Love your videos.
Thanks so much! 😊
i had my doubts, but you pulled it off...beautifully!
Thank you +Rita Cupano :) It was a process for sure lol
Wow! I really saw this going in a totally different direction, but with each passing minute it became more and more beautiful. I love the outcome. I am amazed, it is beautiful! You made me feel as if I could possibly create this same masterpiece.
So glad to see this as I love my bleeding tissue papers and it's nice to see that I can do something different with them. Love that.
I love it when I watch someone create something and at first I think that is so ugly and by the time they finish it is so pretty. Gives me hope when I am doing something that at first I don't like to go ahead and finish it and see where it goes instead of trashing it. This turned out so pretty.
Thank you Kathleeen :) My moto is just keep on adding layers until you like it!
When they first started out, I thought how could this end up so pretty, but it did. Love it.
Thank you :) It was a tricky one lol
I really love these!!! Congrats on closing in on 1000 people, that is a huge and wonderful accomplishment! 😊💕💕🐞🌷🌹🌻🌺🐝
Thank you Anne :)
It turned out lovely. I think I've told you this before, I appreciate you showing your process of frustrations but working through and playing around resulting in a beautiful piece of art. Working with the black instead of trying to avoid it was a really good call. Love the end result. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Gwen :) I do try to leave in my mistakes...as we all make them sometimes.
Your experiment turned out to be a beautiful 3-dimensional peace of art. You deserve your 1000 subscribers and more! I'll try this, thank you!
This is a-maz-ing! Love how you transformed it into what 'pleased' you. It's really gorgeous...love the colors. I would have made a muddy mess out of it...so glad you took the time to share this. It's really, really nice.
Absolutely wonderful!!
Great flowers and textures
Thank you Dianne :)
What an interesting process, first the planning, didn`t work, changing your mind, trying to work around the black, these are the videos we learn most about how media works. I`m not having the patience to watch "longer" videos because often they contain a lot of repeats but I`m happy that you left most of the process in, it was really interesting and you explained it so well. And the end result is absolutely beautiful.
This is really creative and very interesting. wow, this is talent, pure gift
Thank you Gloria :) This one was a struggle that came out great in the end :)
Now,THIS is what I was looking for to do!Couldn't figure out how to do it!Thanks!!!
Glad I could help :)
I just love it! What a great inspiration I woke up to today. Thank you for sharing your talent.
So glad! :)
beautiful work
I'm glad you didn't give up. It's really starting to really take shape. I'm new to mixed media & l just learned about bleeding tissue paper but haven't been able to find it. Clerks at Michael's looked at me like l had two heads. I really love how this is turning out. Now l want to try this. ❤️👍
Thank you Katherine :) It was hard not to bin this one..but I kept at it. Here is a link to Amazon for the tissue. I ordered it from there. amzn.to/2rFTm4k
Love the combination. Keeping the excess cut offs of paper was a great idea. Good lesson in its good to be a drip once in awhile. I bought some similar tissue paper and got a bit bored with it but now I just see that I need to challenge myself a bit more. Thank you again Shel C.
Thanks for watching Eileen :) I need to get that paper out again..hmm wonder where I put it LOL
I love how it turned out Shel. It is amazing how we are our own worst critics. That as we are working on a project we think, why did I do that, I think I'll just scrap this and move on, but you decided to keep going and look what you created! Beautiful! Thanks for sharing how you made this, makes me want to pull out the tissue I have and see how it reacts!
Thank you +Linda Israel :) I used to actually throw away art that I did...then I realized that the next day it looks a whole lot better! Now I am working on pushing through the ugly stages and getting better lol. I hope you get out that old tissue and play :)
I have a whole pile of "I think that is ugly" lol So now I'll go back and see what I can do with it and find that tissue too! Thanks again for sharing even when you thought it wasn't going to turn out! I love it! have an awesome rest of the day!
Oh I think it will be fun to go through them and look again +Linda Israel :)
I like this very much. I'm impatient by nature too, so if this is the result, then why fight it lol. Really, very nice to see your creative process.
I love the painting and hope you like how it turned out!
I also love your sense of humor😉 and appreciate your comments on why/how you paint certain things. The way you turn down the blank it very informative. Thank you! Love it!
Thanks so much :) Yes, I enjoyed the painting as it turned out :)
So glad you persevered through, love it. Oh my.... in this vid you were hoping to reach 1K...look at you now at 10K!
Thank you Tricia :) Yes, this one is old but still really popular LOL
Waooo...te quedó super lindo!!! No sabía que en un canvas se podia usar los lápices acuarelables!!! Muchas gracias...blessings
Thank you Alejandra 😊

Thanks for watching Penny :)
what a good demo.... nothing perfect, many doubts, then......... you ended up with such an awesome painting! thank you for sharing.
Thank you Carolee :) I try to be real..and that really was a tricky one LOL
Just watched this, and I thought, how creative you are and that you had it in you to work through it, for it is a pretty piece, and I learned some clever tricks and techniques from watching you. So, thanks Shel.
You are welcome Cheryl :) This one was a bit of a pain..but once the black went on I was happy!
adore this! i actually really liked it with just the gesso and tissue circles. thinking of doing something like that to hang in my house. very cool!
WOW!!! This has to be my favorite video! I have been trying to paint abstract, which is my favorite, and keep ending up with flowers, UGH! I love deep rich texture and after watching this video, I think you have saved a couple of painted canvases that are laying around my work space. I think the black was GREAT. I also work with tissue paper (the kind you get sticking out of a birthday bag. Now I have a couple great ideas on what to do with that stack also. Thanks for sharing. Rasz
I am eagerly watching that watts your next step. Very very beautiful. Thanks
Vandana
Super transformation!
+Lisa Morales Thank you Lisa 😊
It turned out beautiful. i really love the textural elements you created. I thought you'd never subdue the black but it worked in the end and the black reallly ended up giving great nackground shades of difference. My art teacher says nothings a mistake. well done :)
+Bertie's Life News, Views and Opinions and Skills Thank you 😊 never give up
Absolutely Gorgeous! Your’e an artistic Genius! Going to try this on journal covers!
Have fun with it Amy :)
I think it turned out great, I have yet to see you not be able to bring something around to wonderful. Almost at 7K Wow!!!
Looks beautiful!
+PoGirl Thanks so much 😊
I love how this turned out! Beautiful!
Thank you Zina :)
Lovely canvas! I'm sure you'll hit 1000 subs in no time!
Those black circles distracted me as well, but I love how you kept working and trying one thing after another until the final "butterfly" version emerged! Sooo different from where it started. I don't watch your videos and any kind of order, and since you just hit 10,000 subscribers, it was kind of cool to hear you're talking about having 900 subscribers and being on your way to a thousand.😄 Dumb question for you: what's the best way to get texture paste into those little plastic bottles??? Dilute it? I've also seen people put glue like Tim Holtz's collage medium or matte medium in those bottles, and wondered how they did that too...
Thank you Deb :) Yes, the channel has grown a lot since this video. I used a small palette knife to scrape the texture paste into the bottle little by little..then yes I added a little water and shook it up. The gage of the needed on the bottle makes a difference..they come in different sizes.
I really love ❤️ this. The dimensions are fantastic and the colours are fantastic. Thank you so much 😊
Thanks so much :)

For all your frustration, this piece is just soo cool. It's beautiful. I had to lol when you said you were doing a give away at 1,000 subscribers. I looked over and saw 9.9K subscribers. Hahaha I said ....I am late again. lol. Love it Shel. TFS. I would hang that on my wall anytime. See ya later, my Arizona friend.
