i use the dos for water changes and agree the noise is loud. But I think the small hose might be part of the problem. the unit has to run very fast to get a large amount of water through those small tubes.

Yes, it is loud for sure. But it does the job well for me. It is also in my garage so I do not hear it.

@@ReefAndReptileAutomation if they just offered a large hose option then I think you could run is slower and cut back on the noise

Great video Derrick. I've been using the dos for about 6 months for awc and yeah agreed sooooo loud! changed my awc times to while we are in bed as during lockdown partner couldn't cope with the noise anymore :-) Notice you mention the dos containers need to be close by. Doesn't the versa/dos have a long distance also being peristaltic pumps?

Jonathan Stephens they do. Haven’t really tested it. I’ve been told 50 feet is max on both but again not tested.

@@ReefAndReptileAutomation The dos can be very far....I've tested mines with auto water change and works well.

Producer Reef how far have you pumped it water? I will have my water change station in my garage and my aquarium is in the living room that’s like 30 feet away? But it’s going only 10 feet high maybe plus any headloss in the tubes.

Sad that the auto-aqua isn't available anymore

Great video. So the ato needs to be switched off during the auto water change? Or is the water being replaced as it is removed?

      On which system?

@@ReefAndReptileAutomation on all of them except the auto aqua system. Just curious, I do not recall you mentioning anything about the ato having to be turned on or off.

Drama D generally yes. You would need to program something that turns off the ATO if you use one of these systems. The auto aqua obviously does everything for you.

@@ReefAndReptileAutomation I figured so, honestly just was curious. Never ran a awc system. Just curious and wanted to ask. Learn more about in general. I actually never heard of the genesis system.
Just curious again. What would be a few examples for one to implement a wwc system. Is this solely to replace trace elements and reduce nutrients? I only ask or am curious because, if parameters are stable, nutrients in check, why change water at all and possibly create an imbalance. Not disagreeing or trying to start an argument or anything of that nature. Im simply curious. Your video was awesome and show cased many options and price points. I've got the control freak bug again and am wanting to expand my knowledge a bit more on what does what and why. Not just trying to throw equipment on because he or she has it on there system. Trying to understand functionality, uses, others thought processes, just learn more.
      Apologies for the long reply

As a general statement I do not think water changes are needed. I do not do them in my reef any longer. I do them on my FOWLR system since the nutrients are difficult to maintain. But the video was meant for people that wish you do AWC. Some people agree with doing them and some people do not. I have both methods in place :)

How important is it to place one unit close to the reservoir and one next to the tank. I was planning on having all the versa's close to the tank with a long run to the reservoir / waste drain.

Timothy Won depends on the distance. I have found Versa can pump pretty far. My comments basically were for the best solution.

be great to see a video on what back up systems/sensors you recommend for the awc say for example the dos. Mine currently just pulls water in/out and that's it. no optical sensors shut it down if a problem. Guessing the Apex is easiest to do this to?

Jonathan Stephens yea you’d probably want some sort of fail safe with sensors or leak detectors.
