Goodison park was the first PURPOSE BUILT football stadium, Anfield was also used for cricket for example, making it not a purpose built football stadium.
So before Goodison was built, random rectangles of grass had stands built next to them before someone decided that they should use it for football, yeah? 😵💫
@@memphisdaniels3218 Goodison was designed for football only. It had *all four* sides developed on opening, being designed before any work was undertaken (a football stadium). Cathkin Park in Glasgow is the site of the 2nd Hampden Park. Purpose built as a football stadium complete with terraced stands and opened in 1884. It was home to Queen's Park first of all and later Third Lanark. Also temporarily Ranges at one point. It hasn't been in use for football since the demise of Third Lanark as a football club in the 1960s, however, but can still be visited as a historical site. Just one example of an older purpose built football stadium than Goodison Park and there are others. So the claim in the video is just plain wrong, since It didn't specify that the stadium had to still be in use today.
@@johnburns4017 - Actually having researched this a bit further, the first Hampden Park was actually the world's first Purpose built football stadium, and was later used for cricket and then bowling after it ceased to be used for football. It was opened in 1873. My source for this is "The Scottish Football Museum". Cathkin was a public Park before the 2nd Hampden was built on it and rented by Queen's Park when they moved away from the first Hampden.
BTW, any argument over this video could have been avoided if the video had stated that Goodison is the first purpose built football stadium still in use today.

The headline is misleading, it’s not the world’s oldest football stadium at all, infact it’s not even close. Sandy gate was built for football in 1804, plenty other grounds came before this. Bramall Lane Field mill To name a few
I believe Bramall Lane and Sandygate were originaly cricket grounds that became football stadiums, not sure on Field Mill but, Goodison was purposley built for Football so maybe it is the first purpose built Football Stadium but yes very misleading title since those predate it by decades.
I always thought my local team Maidenhead Utd had the oldest ground having continuously played at York Rd since 1871 but let’s not let facts get in the way of a good story.
Who cares. Just glad they moved. I wouldn't have enjoyed supporting Englands most successful club had they stayed. So thankyou Everton for my 60 years of pure happiness supporting Liverpool. You don't get medals for building new stadiums. Maybe you might get a 'steapest stand in England' trophy.
hmmmm many older grounds than this dump, but i see the small print 'Exploring the history of the first ever purpose built football stadium'. Anfield HAS to be older as it was Everton who sold it to Liverpool. And we have Bramall Lane, Field Mill, Tannadice Park, Stamford Bridge, Deepdale, Ewood Park, Turf Moor amd Portman Road to name a few
Only one factual error. The church is not in the ground it is owned as is every Anglican church by the CofE. The church has rebuffed every effort for 130 years to be bought out by EFC to enable past expansions of the park.
The most innacurate video title I can remember. Its not the oldest football stadium in the world, it's not even the oldest in England. Everton originally played at Anfield including the first seasons of the Football League. Prestons ground, Deepdale outdates Goodson Park by 14 years. Deepdale is still on the site of the original stadium. this makes Deepdale the oldest continuously used stadium in professional football. Deepdale is the home of the first ever Football League champions, the first Invincible team and the first to do the League and Cup double.

very big mistake to demolish Goodison park, and move to a steryl, confectional new stadium like many others are. Comfort, entertainment, shopping, concderts, big video wall,.. boring. Goodison could also be incresed. It has a soul and with its specific and unique kind and type that could eran more money than the new one.

Erm how is it the World's oldest? Everton moved there from Anfield, which is the opposite side of the park. Plus there are numerous places older than Anfield.
Anfield was used for cricket alongside football, therefore it was not built for the sole and only purpose of football. Goodison was built with only football in mind, the first stadium constructed for the purpose of football 😊
No your wrong Everton owned Anfield until Liverpool became a football club and then in 1992 Everton played their first ever match in goodison so actually everton owned anfield
No space to redevelop. One side has a church that can’t be knocked down. The other has a school that can’t be knocked down. The rest is made up of residential housing. Plus the stadium is that old it still uses a boiler from the 50’s that only about 3 people in world know how to operate.
A: To which stadium are you referring when you say "it"? Everton are steeped in history with many innovative breakthroughs, they were also the 1st team in the country to have underground heating installed in 1958. It will be a very sad day when the Grand Old Lady has to close her gates for the very last time but needs must in the modern day game of football & I think the new super stadium on the banks of the Royal Blue Mersey will do her proud.
@@fatwallet13 The new stadium is looking magnificent. Good luck next season.

It's a shame Everton has to leave Goodison Park. But I respect the move!
Goodison park was the first PURPOSE BUILT football stadium, Anfield was also used for cricket for example, making it not a purpose built football stadium.
Anfield evolved. Goodison was built with all four sides at the outset.
So before Goodison was built, random rectangles of grass had stands built next to them before someone decided that they should use it for football, yeah? 😵💫
@@memphisdaniels3218
Goodison was designed for football only. It had *all four* sides developed on opening, being designed before any work was undertaken (a football stadium). The others were open fields (football _grounds)_ with a small pavillion or stand, being developed over time. That is what Everton did at Anfield. On leaving Anfield all four sides of Anfield were developed.

So Everton played at Anfield before they hiked across the park to Goodson (in fact, tho they are one of the 12 founding Football League clubs, they played at Anfield then!). I may be missing something here, but to my mind, that makes Anfield the older Stadium 🤔.
Anfield was also used for cricket too, goodison park was the first stadium built exclusively for football 😁

@@mcmanusmedia They played both codes of Rugby at Goodison early on. You can read the minutes of the Board meetings where fees and applications for use are discussed.
Anfield was a field for Cricket or Rugby, not a pitch ? 🤔
@@siamshibam
It was primarily for football. An open ground with a small stand on one side. Players changed in a local pub, the Sandon. Everton started out as a cricket team playing both sports. Cricket *was* played there.
Eventually Everton dropped the cricket building Anfield up on all four sides. It had 20,000 capacity hosting an international. Goodison was designed to be a football stadium before a shovel was put into the ground.
What are the plans for GP when they move to Bramley Dock ?

Cathkin evolved. Goodison Park when built had all four sides developed on opening.

*Football* has many sub versions: RFU, RL, American, Australian, Association (soccer), etc. They come under *Football.* What makes soccer different to the rest is that you cannot hold or hold & run with the ball in the field of play.
The game we know as football (soccer), Association football, was formed when picking up the ball was outlawed by the Association. There was 10 clubs in the Association at that point, none from Sheffield. So 10 were the first soccer clubs.
