What is the point of the video in the background? Is that to entertain folks who do not know how to listen to music?
This performance was part of the concert for young people "Klassik mal anders: Das Ligeti-Experiment", in which classical music was performed together with other artistic components.
Somebody explain me this music?
One concept of Ligeti in the 60‘s was to create music without rhythm, melody and harmony only with sound, inspired by electronic compositions. He achieved it in a composition before „Lontano“ in „Atmosphères“ (famous as a part of the soundtrack of „2001, A space odyssey“).

In Lontano he developed this style. He (re-)created a kind of harmony with a complex polyphony, inspired by the old masters of the ars subtilior and the renaissance vocal polyphony.

@ajett5081. Just watch the Shining and then make a judgement. Yes, there are pretentious composers trying to do stuff for the sake of being different. John Cage being the prime example, but Ligeti and Penderecki are not among them. Their music is good and will always be in demand for horror movie scores.

So. Und warum?
Ich spreche nur über diesen Kommentar, dessen Verfasser sich nicht angesprochen fühlen braucht, weil er nicht angesprochen ist.
Das Gefühl der Peinlichkeit ist mir nicht so vertraut. Es differiert von Beschämung, welche ich durchaus kenne, wenngleich ich es mir abgewöhnte, zu oft und zu sehr beschämt zu sein.
Personen indes, welche die von mir selber ausnehmend selten gebrauchte Attributierung der Peinlichkeit zu benutzen pflegen, kenne ich durchaus und insbesondere diejenigen, welche sie nicht im Bezug auf sich selbst, sondern auf andere gebrauchen, verbinde ich aufrichtig mit niedriger geistiger Individuation: Ich kenne keinen einzigen Menschen, der einem anderen Peinlichkeit zuordnete und den ich als geistvoll empfunden hätte.
Nachvollziehen kann ich speziell diese Peinlichkeitszuordnung nicht. Die dabei obendrein praktizierte Gleichsetzung ist ein starker Hinweis auf ein geistiges Niveau, das ein grausames Schicksal ist. Das Emotikon steht hierbei wohl für eine Vokabel, deren expliziter Gebrauch den thematisierten ,,Kommentar'' in die Nähe der Meldewürdigkeit brächte. Ich denuziere, wie ich meine, sehr, sehr selten und ungern, in diesem Fall indes mit Vergnügen.
Die sich abzeichnende Interpunktionsunfähigkeit ist da längst Nebensache.
Das hierbei noch abgesetzte Ausrufezeichen perfektioniert die Hässlichkeit
so sehr, dass ich mich freilich frage, ob diese ein Artefakt, d.h., ein hübsches Beispiel für synthetische Hässlichkeit ist.
