Your idea is brilliant. It will definitely give you more space for prep work. You always seem to impressed me of how hardworking you both are. Kind regards from Indiana USA
Babies, listen! Don't make things more difficult than they have to be! The extending piece you're talking about... gain more bang for your buck by constructing a base for mounting under the extra slab. Secure the slab onto the base with hangover on 3 sides to square it up beside your sink counter). Mount heavy-duty castor wheels on bottom of the base. Set in a second shelf inside the base for more storage. You end up with a portable island that you can park anywhere you need!!
Beautiful countertop!!! This getting serious. I now find myself calling all your sweet animals by their names whenever I see them on the screen. I never miss one if your videos.....
Why not make that extra counter as a "cart"? Mount it onto it's own table on wheels. That way you can roll the cart counter where you want it to be and with locking wheels you can lock it into place when you need it at the end of the counter or where ever you decide to use it. I did this basic idea in my kitchen. I used an old porcelain enamel table top from the 1940's that was broken on the bottom part of the table and took off the top. Then I mounted that top onto a heavy duty wire rack style storage cart that I bought. The cart bottom was made for industrial use, so it holds a lot of weight and has chrome wire shelves and chrome legs on heavy duty caster wheels. Putting the two together I now have a mobile table/ or counter that I can move where it is needed most.
I appreciate your extension of grace for our ideas so openly expressed to you. We feel like part of your family and is the reason we do rapidly share our opinions of what you should do.
Hi guys. A really good tool to have is a reciprocating saw , also known as a Rip-saw or Sawz -All . It would be a great investment and help you with so many projects . I watch all your videos and enjoy and congradulate you on your progress. Spocky is my favorite !
Great job on counter! But how about a roll away island as opposed to a fold down counter extension. You can put shelves below for additional storage too
It’s probably too cold there now but in the spring you really need French drains all around your house and gutters. This is probably something you are planning when you do your new roof. Merry Christmas from Washington state, USA
HiDessy and David. Team work, you both work so well together. Door hinges will hold the weight, lifting it up is a 2 person job, metal legs will hold it. Love the side table idea, or a large serving platter, or a large chopping board. It will look amazing. You are so busy with all the indoor work. Remember to chill in the evening. Stay safe keep warm.
Wood is beautiful. A drop table will be nice if you can lift it. If you don’t use that small square piece for a table it would be a lovely cutting board.
Dad opens the gate and out they run, Winkin, Blinkin & Nod slippin and slidin about. 😅 Your doing great, and I just love the way everything is coming together. See you on the next one.
All that sawing with handsaw is going to build those biceps and triceps up David, also Despina is going to develop good triceps too ... at least you won't need to do any extra exercises, you can just go get stuck into those Christmas cookies without fear .... ❤x
For the cutoff pieces... . Cutting board(s) . Bench(es) on the porch to sit on to pull on your boots . Floating night stands beside your bed . A "bar" top attached in an L to put bar stools under for casual dining . Others ?? 🙂
If you can figure out how to hinge up the extension it would be nice to have. I love your choices of music. Keep up the good work on your place and your videos for all of us to enjoy!!! Have a very merry Christmas.
Please you two are young and modern....please paint those walls‼️whitewash them with white paint with water in it.....it look so dull and cold and old in that room......think about it hard 😊
Might want to invest in some new saws. A bigger circular saw, a saws-all, a jigsaw, cut-off saw, table saw, and the Japanese have some wonderful hand saws.
That was an epic sawing lol, I wonder if you could have drilled through to the other side of the wood and turned it over? That spare wood is a great butcher's block chopping board, I wonder if you also would be able to put the other piece of wood on the other side of the wall, so you have a type of "wrap around" work top? Looks beautiful though. 🙂
It is soooo cooool to see you two working on a big project inside where it’s warm and well lighted. This is a gorgeous piece of timber. I’m glad it found a good home with you guys. Your thoughtful use of every piece is lovely! 👏🏻🖖🏻💪🏻💝❤️
Maybe a counter top across from it by the window. Probably too difficult and dangerous to make it the way you originally wanted (folding). Best of luck though and can't wait to see it done.
You did a good job cutting that down to size !! I would suggest using heavy duty gate hinges for the drop down portion of the counter. Double check to see the weight limit , though ! It’s gonna be beautiful ❤️ Y’all are spoiling me with these daily videos !! 😊👍
Nice job! How about making a table with casters out of the other piece that is the exact height of the fixed worktop, then you can push it up to the end of the fixed worktop to give you extra space when you need it and move it elsewhere when you need too. I’m sure whatever you do will look great x
Yeah I know that fear of the cut! You doubt yourself no matter how careful you are, and once you start, you are committed! You will appreciate the hardwood later though! I would definitely get hinges and hinges legs for an extension!! And use the small scraps to raise that little freezer! Excellent job and beautiful countertop!! ❤️❤️
This cut piece will make an excellent cutting board ! You could use last piece of wood you must cut at the end of the counter at a slightly lower height and use use as a future table for family member or friends with children. And you use it
Chickens usually do not lay eggs in the winter months and if they do, they lay very few eggs. The chickens use this time to recover from the hard season of laying, they need this recovery time.
Sawing by hand is Very difficult. I've done it with my cheapo saw. Took forever just to saw thru 2 inches wood. You did a fantastic job Deivid. "Build On" 🛠
I'm sure the countertop will be beautiful. Can you add the leftover end to make a right angle? Do you have room on the end to turn the top into an L? Not with hinges, but as a permanent L. Legs could be added or a cabinet could be made to support it. I enjoy seeing your projects come to life. Give the kitty some pets from all of us cat fans.
That's a brilliant idea...ther are special hinges you can get for underneath so ther not seen...metal legs that fold up as ther stronger. You did very well cutting that wood...you cld use ship varnish if you wanted it varnished...good strong varnish..
WOW David! I bet your arms, shoulders and back was sure tired when you got through with all that cutting! Great great job can’t wait to see it finished.
Evie is so cute.. Now remember if you coat the wood with the clear coat ..it must be above 80° degrees in the room when you mix and apply or it will turn cloudy like when you did the sink top.. Its going to look beautiful.. Deiveds your so handy.. I need a Deiveds at my house..lol Love you two..💞
To keep the chickens laying eggs all year round you need to have their resting area enclosed and heated for the coolers times and if it gets hot there then air conditioning. This is what my friends have for their chickens and geese so they have eggs all year long here in Arizona USA. PS - when he was putting the second coat of lacker on the counter top I was saying NO, NO do not do that as it will be a milky color - lol lol. By the way I have adopted both of you as distant grandchildren. Hugs and love to you and all of your two and four legged family.
You can get feed for your female's and they will started laying eggs. You do not have to have a rooster either . That's something new and it works . My brother in law gave the feed to his chickens.
Alot of hard work but it will be beautiful in the end. Can hardly wait to see it finished. A beautiful piece of wood and David's talent..it will be awesome.
Hello. Keep up the good work. Hint. For future use. Cut your holes on one side with circular saw. Use a long small drill bit and drill thru corners. Then flip wood over and use drilled holes to repeat lines to be cut.
Beautiful Wood Counters!!! Looks awesome!!! Dievids getting lots of exercise using the handsaw. We notice you use it in alot of videos. Great arm strength!!! Merry Christmas!!! Love & Good Energy to your Farmily!
That's a really lovely piece of wood, Elm is known as a soft hardwood, but how hard it is to saw 🪚 you wouldn't think so 🤣 It is also good at resisting splitting as well. You have done a good job so far, cutting the shapes out. I don't know if wood is cheap where you live, but in the UK that would cost quite a bit to buy...🙂👍
I know you said that you aren't doing the epoxy well that's good because you only do epoxy in the summer to avoid "clouding" on the wood. Remember to do the "French drain" to keep the water away from the house. If you need more info on how to do it let me know and I gladly will help with that I've been doing them for many years for my family and friends. The table is looking great. 👍
You could poly varathane the top of the wood too. Also you could use the square piece you cut out for a cutting board. That way, you have something to cut on that you don't have to worry about staining in the kitchen. But do whatever you want with it, it is your wood and home! Just some ideas I'm throwing out there! Good job! P.S. I like the roll away island idea everyone is mentioning too!
Nice job, thanks for the video. A couple of comments. 1) usually, carpenters cut from both sides. If you cut a little with hand saw at each end of the cut, you can draw a perfect line between the two cuts on the uncut side to guide your cut. You will always have some sanding or planing unless the saw cut is perfect or your handsaw cuts the same kerf width as the circular saw. But what you did is still fine. You got the job done. 2) if you want a fold up end, the hinges will go on the bottom of the two pieces of counter and allow the extension to fold up to the same height. However, that thickness of counter might suggest what others have said about making a rolling worktop that is countertop height (maybe with locking casters) that you just put in place where you need it when you need it. It could have a couple open shelves or drawers built in for extra storage too. May God bless you both and Merry Christmas! Oh and oiling the top is fine, just use food safe linseed (not "boiled linseed" that has driers added to it) or Walnut oil. I would recommend Walnut oil - you can usually get it from the salad oil section in the grocers - it is one of the few edible oils that actually dry (polymerize) at room temperature.
Great job! I think it would be great to add the other piece on so you can have extra space if you need it. Yes they make henge so you can connect the other piece so you can lift it up and down. I think it's gonna be 4eally nice when you get finished with it.
David, you are extremely intelligent. Someone put a lot of work into you. And I am sure that they are super proud of you. Happy Holidays to the two of you.
You could flip the wood and use the circular saw again for the same cut. That way you could cut 10cm. Maybe this even could be done for the square cut if you drilled holes in the corners first and then use the circular saw on both sides. But this one would be a bit more difficult.
You could have done a second cut from the under side with your electric saw, just make two small cuts with hand saw at either end then go under & cut?? 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
That is an absolutely beautiful piece of wood for making your countertop! If you are set on having a drop leaf countertop extension why not use a thinner piece of wood to make the drop leaf? Can you have the piece you cut off milled to half as thick for the drop leaf? It would reduce the weight of the piece plus give you the other half of the piece to use for another project. How about making a rolling cabinet that can be used alongside the counter when needed but moved somewhere else when it’s not needed? That way if you wanted to, you could have if configured in an L shape instead of just coming out straight. It would give you more room to get around it too if you put it as an L shape. You could build a cabinet base on wheels that is the same height as the counter so it would line up evenly when it’s rolled into place. Then you could use the cabinet in your entry area to have a bit of extra storage for things not used as often and as a place to set things down when you come in the front door. If you make the cabinet base smaller (in width/depth) it would look more like a kitchen island or a piece of furniture instead of a cabinet. Then if you set the top off to one side, it could function as a place to sit with a couple of stools underneath it. These are just a couple of other ideas for you. Good luck with your project!
Despina. I've already told David of his good fortune in finding a partner, now it's your turn. Such kind and clever men are few and far between.
That piece of wood is amazing.
That piece you cut out will make a great cutting board if you sand it down and oil it. Really nice piece of wood.
Your idea is brilliant. It will definitely give you more space for prep work. You always seem to impressed me of how hardworking you both are. Kind regards from Indiana USA

So looking forward to the finished product. Love the look of natural wood.

you could use your router to make a sign for a building like " Pew Pews house "
I love how the geese come out a honking

Can't wait to see how the counter turned out. Guys please be careful with those heavy boards when moving it from one place to another
just cut the feet from the cooker to level to the same size as the frigde problem solved
Was a joke 🤣 it will have new legs a lot bigger and stronger! 😁

That wood is amazingly beautiful! I can’t wait to see it finished. It will be so nice to have more counter space to use for cooking and projects.
Hi are you two a couple I hope u r x
That is such a pretty piece of wood. The grain will be really pretty when you finish it.
Hello. Keep up the good work. Hint. For future use. Cut your holes on one side with circular saw. Use a long small drill bit and drill thru corners. Then flip wood over and use drilled holes to repeat lines to be cut.
The piece of lumber has such a lovely grain
I don't know about putting a fold up piece on there... It would be so heavy. Maybe make a rolling cart so you can move it around as you need it?
Yeah it's a cool idea to add a folding counter at the end. Can never have enough counter space
Beautiful Wood Counters!!!
Looks awesome!!!
Dievids getting lots of exercise using the handsaw. We notice you use it in alot of videos. Great arm strength!!!

As daylight is shorter the birds take a break trying to keep themselves warm and don’t lay as many eggs.
David is a great handyman!
Wow it’s starting to look pretty can’t wait to see it all done ☑️
That wood slab is amazing. Take care cause like you said there's no going back.

You could make a table on lockable wheels then wheel it in place when needed and when not in use wheel it to another part of the kitchen.
A lot of love to both of you. Always fun to see how you solve everything. Best wishes for Holliday season.🎄💕🎉
Piano hinges should work ! Great Idea...🌴🍊🐊🎅🤶🎄
Oooo I love it👏👏👏👏👏👏
You should write Dewalt and ask for sponsorship. Free tools!
That's going look good when done. A drp leaf on the end would be nice. Gives the much more needed kitchen room when canning. Cya
it will be beautiful!!
Great job! I think it would be great to add the other piece on so you can have extra space if you need it. Yes they make henge so you can connect the other piece so you can lift it up and down. I think it's gonna be 4eally nice when you get finished with it.
Why not do a small L shape counter. I don't like the idea of a dropped down counter space. Maybe you can do a cabinet with the extra wood pieces.
ich kann das nie auseinander halten......Gans oder Ente ?
Eure Tiere sind alle so anhänglich und freundlich .
Es sind 3 Gänse😊 Enten sind kleiner.
The smaller cutout of the board would make a fine cutting board.
You could use a piano hinge for a leaf and then a swing out leg. Not hard. 😊
Just saw....that is a very beautiful piece of wood. Really saw it when you were cutting out areas! WOW
It seems that was a centuries old tree, maybe an oak. It is so rare and precious, quite a pity to cut it.
The correct term for sprinkle rain/ fog is thick wet...
Or in Scotland smir.
U can use that sink piece as a cutting board
I thought you two were going to get a hernia lifting that wood. Be careful. Love the videos.👍👍👍😁😁
For a table you need a triplex. It slides longer and shorter and you put in sections.
Such hard work! Great job!
I’m sure it will be beautiful!
