    I just got a gold cap from my late uncles estate. Long time walleye fisherman, can’t wait to try it out. You probably knew him.

    Hold do you not mention the St. Clair river for handlining? In my opinion, more people pull wire on the SCR than the Detroit river 2 fold. I learned to pull wire 42 yrs ago on the SCR🤙😎🎣

      As I mentioned I was born over in Wyandotte where handlining started, 58 yrs ago come this August, before moving down to Lake Erie. Honestly, I don't pull wire up there because I don't have too. Once the MWT is out of Detroit, will be trolling or snap jigging hair on Lake Erie where the truly big fish hang out. Is it a great fishery, for sure, have a lot of friends who live in the area who also enjoy whipping, but why drive up there when it is less than 15 min to either Sterling or Bolles down here when fun fishing.

    This is a great video, I am looking to learn more about hand lining after seeing many guys doing it on the St Clair river while I am out whipping. One question, do you think this technique might work in Lake Erie trolling?

      It will work anywhere, but is best suited for river fishing in stained to dirty water situations. If you want to practice though, Lake Erie is a great place to start simply because it will allow you to practice, get a feel for bites, without having to worry about snagging or breaking bills off your floaters.

      That is awesome, have been using their products since I was kid, starting out with their tip up line! The Hard Nylon is perfect for pulling wire. Speaking of back in the day, had to play football against Capac my jr year, which is sort of up by you!

    I started out pulling Night Stalkers at the Rencen and later began pulling Long A Bombers straight up stream in 50 fow. Now I normally pull F9's or smaller, but those big baits have their nights!

    Great Video. All of your baits we're Rap style baits. Do or can you pull worm harness's or would that not work and why? Thanks.

    • @chuckmasonfishingmichigan

      Great question, and yes and no would be the answer. I am up there in early spring where the water temps are hovering around 40', where the Rapala style body baits shine. If I were to pull meat, would switch my blades to either indiana's or willow blades, less resistance in the water, where colorado's would pull down more. Late May or the month of June, colorado's do work on a bottom bouncer going downriver, but the harness lengths are 20 to 36 inch, versus the longer leads on a handline lead.

    Hey chuck thank you for the info… I am brand new to this I usually fish from north of the ren center to the mouth of lake st Clare as the boat I fish on is stationed on belle isle. I’m confused on what I should run and how exactly to set up the lines it sounds like I should run the 30 and 10 food set up with your recommended lures and weights. But I’m confused as to how to set up and in what order to tie these lines together. Is there another video on YT that you could point me to? Or should I bother someone at one of the tackle shops? (I live in Taylor) thank man! and I appreciate the knowledge

    Chuck I run the Riviera Kachman reels and they have the black bristles on top and bottom do guys remove those I’ve actually had them slow down the spring loaded line retrieve and have gotten some backlashes before and I think that’s causing it.

    Can you handline all year

    • @chuckmasonfishingmichigan
      @chuckmasonfishingmichigan  4 роки тому

      You can, there are resident fish in the river. That said, the best fishing though is from ice out to late May, and sometimes into June.
