I guess you were not on many concerts of these highly successful bands. But it is absolutely the norm that they there are one or two bands before the main act. I know the main coordinator of the Rote Kreuz that was at the concert and he showed me the timetable and every band started and ended exactly as planned.

Despite the fact that the band's concert started three hours later than it was announced, it was generally not bad.
They started as they should at 21:00. From 18:00 were prologue by small bands. 😀
