"Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return", is used to apply for an additional 6 months to file Form 1040, 1040A, 1040-EZ, 1040NR, 1040NR-EZ, 1040-PR or 1040-SS.
You do not need to explain why you are asking for the extension, but you are required to properly estimate your 2015 tax liability and file Form 4868 by the due date of your return.
Note: You are still required to pay any tax due by the due date; the Form 4868 extension does not extend the time to pay.
