  • There's different ways to make Buñuelos, but there's nothing fancy about this particular recipe. These are simple, made with pantry staples you likely already have on hand, and they're delicious. Buñuelos are especially popular around the holidays because they're lightly sweet, and crispy, and overall a wonderful treat. Read on for the easy recipe.
    Buñuelos
    2 cups of flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    2 tsp. sugar
a couple of dashes of cinnamon
    pinch of salt
2 Tbsp. of fat (shortening, oil or butter)
1 cup of warm water (you may not use it all)
    vegetable oil for frying
Plus cinnamon sugar for dusting at the end. (approx. 1 cup sugar mixed with 1 Tbsp. cinnamon)
In large bowl, mix together dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, sugar, a little cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Then cut in fat and break up until you have a sandy consistency. Add in warm water a little at a time until you form a dough. Knead for a minimum of 10 minutes. Then cut into 6 even pieces and roll each into a ball. Place back in bowl and cover with a slightly damp kitchen towel. Let dough rest 30-40 minutes, then heat a large skillet with enough oil for deep frying. (Oil should be 350º) Then with a rolling pin, roll out each dough ball into a round disk that's a thin as possible (similar to a tortilla). Carefully lay dough into hot oil and fry for 30 seconds on each side. Place on rack lined with paper towels to allow excess oil to drain. And while still hot, dust both sides of buñuelo with plenty of cinnamon sugar. Shake off the excess and enjoy while hot.

How many of you eat Buñuelos at Christmas time? And, what do they look like? There are so many versions, I'd love to hear yours. Let me know in the comments.

They look like they would be great with my homemade black raspberry jam.

@@gowest5145 Yum! My neighbor recently brought me some raspberry jam and we've been enjoying it on our toast. I didn't think to try it on buñuelos when we still had some. In Mexico, it's common to pour syrup over buñuelos, so you may be on to something. Thanks for watching.

That was fun and I could almost smell the aroma. Sometimes I wish Dad hadn't been in such a hurry for me to get the outdoor farm chores done and I could have helped Mom in the kitchen more.... Ah, such great memories you bring back and more importantly, recipes I can try to duplicate. Thanks you, loving the channel!

I made buñuelos for an Elks Lodge function here in Santa Fe and nobody had ever heard of them! There were none leftover. I learned from my mother in South Texas where they are common - and delicious!

Thanks again Marcy, for the trip down memory lane. Mom would make Bunuelo’s when we were kids, and we absolutely loved them.

This seems so delicious. I can't wait to give it a try. It's almost the same recipe as tortillas. Do you knead your tortillas that long as well? Sometimes my tortillas turn out great and sometimes not so great.

    • @marcyinspired1442
      @marcyinspired1442  6 місяців тому +1

I don't knead my tortillas that long, but even 5 minutes will help keep them from tearing. Resting the dough is also good for tortillas. Thanks for watching!

@@marcyinspired1442 with tortillas, you're supposed to rest your dough two times, am I correct. Are we supposed to rest it before you make the balls and then resting it after you make the balls?
