I call it "The Hall of Statistics" because of him. He and MJ were the most famous athletes of the day and they can't get him in because his numbers will never be good enough because of his injury. Pffff
Cool - I saw him in '89 at Comiskey Park. Sox had a runner on third, with a fly ball to left near the foul pole. Runner made a break, then remembered Bo was out there, and quickly turned around. Bo planted his right foot on the warning track and threw a strike to the catcher - no running start or anything.
I went to his very first game at royals stadium and got his autograph on the game ticket stub by the dugout. My favorite piece of sports stuff i have over the years
Greatest athlete of all time. He was throwing 12 year olds out when he was 9 in little league as a catcher too. And he didn't even move from the squated position to throw them out. That's scary.
----------------------- imo ......that is what gives it even more mystique......EVERYBODY presumed game was over ------ we 'caught' enough of the footage , not to 'throw' it into questionable bias.......no?
This is one of those plays that I just can't wrap my brain around. I just saw it, and I still can't believe that it was accomplished. Truly the stuff of legend.
I've seen several Bo Jackson long throw videos. In each of them, the ball never leaves the camera frame, but more impressively the camera is never aimed "up" to track the ball. These throws were literally straight line throws about 12-15 ft above the ground. Not the "looping" throws you'd expect to see from such a long distance. Impressive.
@@petergianakopoulos4926 if he got hurt in modern era they would have diagnose him correctly and save his hip. They didn't figure out what was wrong with him until it was too late to save. He would have been the world's greatest athlete. Track football baseball star all in one body. Clone him now
I attended this game. One of the handful of fans still in the stands at the Kingdome that day. It was the most memorable play I had seen in person up to then and since. Unbelievable throw by an unbelievable talent!
I actually was at that game. I couldn't believe it, because it didn't bounce and came in on the fly it looked like it picked up speed. I didn't think he had a shot at getting Reynolds. The most amazing throw I have ever seen. I went to the game two days before this one. Harold Reynolds led off with a hit and the Mariners didn't get another hit. Nolan Ryan had another one hit complete game.
Dan Mez steroids are a miracle drug that gives you throwing accuracy as well? how can i not take steroids if you become a sports legend by taking it...
Of course roids don't turn a couch potato into an MVP but obviously it can help athletes avoid injuries and gain stamina. If it didn't help athletes wouldn't take it.
I remember a place in Orlando called Boardwalk & Baseball that my dad took me to. That is where the Royals would do their spring training. Got to meet the man himself and got his autograph. Man I wish I still had that signature!
I can't believe that this is the only footage ever of this play. I think the M's didn't broadcast this particular game, but at least the Kingdome should have had a CCTV recording???
I wish he wouldn't haven't gotten hurt. Easily would have been one of the greatest baseball players in history. But an AMAZING running back so I can't fault him for wanting to do both!
I'm a huge A's fan...and Yoenis Cespedes is getting all kinds of run for his crazy throws. But take his throw that nailed Howie Kendrick...and pull it back 30 more feet. Then make Kendrick about 2-3 steps faster. That's Bo throwing out Harold Reynolds. Just a ridiculous play
How can he not be one of your favorite athletes and people? His feats on the gridiron and diamond are mind-blowing. And as a few folks have said, by all accounts a very nice person.
I was watching the game in KC and remember Denny Trease's call, and hoping for a better view on a replay, but the camera man didn't get it. At least they got the end of the throw and the tag.
Tom Glavine will tell anyone who'll listen(I'm a HUGE Braves fan) that the most intimidating thing he ever saw was Spring Training 1987...He was in the Braves' bullpen warming up when he saw Bo grab a ball in the LF bullpen, right at the wall, and throw a frozen rope to the RFer PAST the foul line in RF! Later measured, it was 315 feet. Glavine swears that the ball never got above 15 ft. off the ground! Watching this only makes me think Glavine was NOT nuts!
What this tells me is: If there’s a runner on first base, and you hit it in Bo’s direction, that guy is not getting home safely. I don’t care if it’s a triple-worthy hit. That guy on first is getting held up.
Wouldn't it be cool if Bo could've gone on to be a relief pitcher? Just come up from left field in the 9th and retire the side with that rocket launcher of an arm?
Also, kudos to Bob Boone! He had a great tag at the plate. The ball wasn't right on line like everyone wants to believe, it was up the first base side a little so Boone had to get the ball and make essentially, a blind tag to get Reynolds.
now days its just Impossible to make that throw under pressure straight to home plate the way Bo did it and have a fast runner out, back then in the 80s was Impposble too, hahahha!!! just a guy out of this planet Did it. Mr Bo Jackson
I was sitting in the left field bleachers right along the rails. Most of the game we harassed Bo and threw trash at him, but somehow nothing ever hit him.
Bo def had a cannon. Watched another video of MLB most powerful arms and they mentioned a Cleveland Indians player who could stand at home plate and throw the ball over 400ft into the centerfield bleachers.
Too bad there isn't better footage of his actual throwing motion on this play. Maybe it's around somewhere. They don't really even show him releasing the ball here.
What you can't really see is Bo caught the ball of a hop barehanded and through it in one motion, he did not even set and lock to throw it, if you could see the entire throw, it was the best throw in history.
to put in perspective, go stand on a highschool football field, at the goal line. have your buddy stand at the opposite goal line. tell him to standstill, don't move, and throw him the baseball so it lands at his feet. 99.9% of people couldn't do it. let alone what Bo did real time. considering the game situation and Bo's throw, has to be the best throw in MLB history. if not, someone let me know.
Absolutely spot on. And then, ponder that insane arm strength was eclipsed by his speed and power. I still can't wrap my head around it. Nobody in the history of baseball had his natural talent.
Superhuman athlete but he never put up the HOF numbers because he lacked discipline as a hitter. Struck out far too often and didn’t garner many walks. But when he connected, look out.
In that clip, the commentator said that 'Royals get a break.' He must have been blind; Reynolds was clearly tagged out. Or maybe not blind, just unable to believe what he'd just seen.
and harold reynolds was hauling ass, a guy who led the league in stolen bases two years before. "300, and some odd feet away"... to put that into perspective, that's the length of a football field, 100 yards, goal line to goal line. go ahead, give it a try.
There will never be another Bo Jackson.
Got that right!
How is that even possible? Dude was off the charts athletically gifted.
Still the single greatest individual athletic achievement I’ve ever seen in a professional sport.
Could have been a HOFer in two sports. And by all accounts...a great human being.
He is
I call it "The Hall of Statistics" because of him. He and MJ were the most famous athletes of the day and they can't get him in because his numbers will never be good enough because of his injury. Pffff
They might put him in...
So much God given ability. I'm in awe of the abilities God gave Bo
Cool - I saw him in '89 at Comiskey Park. Sox had a runner on third, with a fly ball to left near the foul pole. Runner made a break, then remembered Bo was out there, and quickly turned around. veorge you wanna sell that autographed ticket ? 😅
Bo you are and always be a class act.
Greatest athlete of all time. He was throwing 12 year olds out when he was 9 in little league as a catcher too. And he didn't even move from the squated position to throw them out. That's scary.
One of the greatest throws ruined by terrible camera work.
And by terrible color commentating after the out
We are lucky it was televised back then.
Think the camera guys were drunk and getting ready to celebrate. It was an oh shit moment
----------------------- imo ......that is what gives it even more mystique......EVERYBODY presumed game was over ------ we 'caught' enough of the footage , not to 'throw' it into questionable bias.......no?
Yeah but WHO could track that shit!?
This is one of those plays that I just can't wrap my brain around. I just saw it, and I still can't believe that it was accomplished. Truly the stuff of legend.
Talk about one of the best stories in baseball history.
Impressive.
More impressively he’s usually flat footed and doesn’t even take a step.not even trying
Bo is the equivalent of Achillies. A superman with one damned weak spot.
that is pretty much the best explanation about Bo Jackson. you sir, i applaud you for your creativity.
Weak spot? He got vascular necrosis of his hip!
@@petergianakopoulos4926 if he got hurt in modern era they would have diagnose him correctly and save his hip. They didn't figure out what was wrong with him until it was too late to save. He would have been the world's greatest athlete. Track football baseball star all in one body. Clone him now
@@HungNguyen-qj3vu I agree
To catch Harold Raines from the warning track in left field at home plate is like
the God's striking all at once
Harold Reynolds
Yeah Tim Raines woulda made it

I attended this game. One of the handful of fans still in the stands at the Kingdome that day. It was the most memorable play I had seen in person up to then and since. Unbelievable throw by an unbelievable talent!
what did the throw look like?

I went to the game two days before this one. Harold Reynolds led off with a hit and the Mariners didn't get another hit. Nolan Ryan had another one hit complete game.
This guy could do it all. Short career, but he blazed thru it in style
Bo Jackson is a real life urban legend. The things he did on the baseball and football field were just too unbelievable.
That is because he was juicing.
could be...
But still the best juicer ever.
Dan Mez steroids are a miracle drug that gives you throwing accuracy as well? how can i not take steroids if you become a sports legend by taking it...

SOO TRUE. Plus they don't make you an AMAZING running back either!
Bo Jackson could have played Terminator without CGI effects
I can't believe that this is the only footage ever of this play. I think the M's didn't broadcast this particular game, but at least the Kingdome should have had a CCTV recording???
As a baseball player that will never happen like that again, that smoothly from left.
I wish he wouldn't haven't gotten hurt. Easily would have been one of the greatest baseball players in history. But an AMAZING running back so I can't fault him for wanting to do both!
Best throw by an outfielder I have ever seen in my life.
Bo Jackson; The greatest athlete I ever saw!
Easy,Herschel walker second.
Absolutely. He was just a different bread of man
This is so great I had no idea someone did that in baseball.
It's just crazy, I've seen great throws, but this like super human
I've seen Clemente &Dwight Evans ,who had great arms but not like that.
Harold Reynolds is still looking at that replay
this is just nuts
How can he not be one of your favorite athletes and people? His feats on the gridiron and diamond are mind-blowing. And as a few folks have said, by all accounts a very nice person.
this ball was 100% online w harold reynolds at first trust me he was as fast as ricky henderson.
Bo knows youtube.
They put anyone in the hof now i believe Bo should be in both hof
Worst camera work on a throw in baseball history
+john bender It sucks for sure. They all gave up like the rest of the Royal did...
In all fairness, it was a laser and probably didn't expect him to throw to home
I was watching the game in KC and remember Denny Trease's call, and hoping for a better view on a replay, but the camera man didn't get it. At least they got the end of the throw and the tag.
The Original "Hold my beer" throw.

With an arm like that he probably could've messed around and won a Cy Young for fun!
That may be the most spectacular Throw in the history of baseball
Bo did not throw that ball it look like he shot it out of a cannon! With Bo's arm thank God for the catchers mitt.
Bo Jackson could do some superhuman things
Greatest male athlete -- alongside maybe Jim Thorpe -- to ever play professional American sports. An absolute alien.
+Steven M or Don Kessinger,,,

Steve Balboni catching strays 🤣
Bo Jackson at the end “and we went on to win that game, it went 11 innings”. That was just as important to him, that’s the type a player he was.
Bo knows throws!
2nd best throw I ever saw Ellis Valentine had 1 similar but right against wall he picked it up and threw a low missle
Wouldn't it be cool if Bo could've gone on to be a relief pitcher? Just come up from left field in the 9th and retire the side with that rocket launcher of an arm?
What an incredible athlete.
The Creator gave this man just a little extra.

Bo Jackson professional baseball player with a professional football hobby!
What a beautiful story that was true!
Wow. Magical power

Bo def had a cannon.

I’m guessing that Indians player was Cory Snyder. That dude had a rifle out there and was pretty accurate with his throws
Bo knows.
Superman
Bo Jackson is the greatest athlete ever discovered hands down...
Laser !
I ain't got the words...

What was with Bo and the Kingdome.
If he hadn't of got hurt the Raiders would of won 1 or 2 more super bowls. Plain and simple
